    Excellent presentation! We're receiving our Rivian R1S in June 2023. You provided us with extremely important information that I, for one, never would have thought about, when towing or jump-starting our new EV! You saved us from potentially damaging our vehicle through our own ignorance! Kudos to you for such a thorough explanation!

    Excellent video Sir. You know your stuff and your presentation skills are up there with the best I have ever watched! I’ve done much public speaking myself over the years and your pace is perfect to hold your watchers attention. I don’t own a tow truck but I certainly look forward to watching more of your videos! Great job!

      These EV platforms are extremely technical when it comes to their handling during breakdown events. We'll do whatever we can do to help Tow Truck drivers ensure a positive customer experience for the vehicle owner and auto manufacturer.

    This is concerning. On my Kona EV, if the 12V batt is dead, I can use a portable jumper on the battery or in the car cigarette lighter socket. Why should you have to remove the back bumper access panel? Is the 12V batt hidden from the user?

    • @towtrucktech1555
      @towtrucktech1555  Рік тому

      Batteries are buried in the cowl. All entry to the vehicle is electronically actuated, no power - no entry.
      The jump leads at the back are the solution the OEM engineered into the vehicle. A more sensible solution would have been remote leads to open to front trunk and remote jump posts nearer the batteries.

    I was a little surprised you focused on the front control arm for a bridle connection instead of the tow hooks through the bumper. Can you elaborate?

    • @towtrucktech1555
      @towtrucktech1555  Рік тому +1

      Absolutely. The Control Arms are on a lower plane, similar to that of the winch on the carrier deck. Going high to the Tow Hooks would compress the front suspension as the truck nears the winch during loading, something that is best avoided. As well, not all models have the front tow hooks. As a prototype the platform had a Tow Eyelet which was subsequently removed when this unfavorable high connection point was brought to attention.

    Did this vehicle have the spare tire with it? Curious about the weight you measured and whether it would be less/more.

    • @towtrucktech1555
      @towtrucktech1555  Рік тому

      No spare in this unit, it’s not going to accommodate a full size like in the R1T, maybe a space saver.

    • @paulw575
      @paulw575 Рік тому

      It does have a spare. It looks like a space saver, however as you inflate it it unrolls itself into decent size. "Rivian Dad" did a video on it. Since all Rivians have a built in air compressor, that spare doesn't need to be inflated.

    • @LarsDennert
      @LarsDennert 9 місяців тому

      The vredestein r1s spare is optional. Not everyone will have it. In fact most won't. You get slime. The wheels are compatible with older Dodge 20s.

  • @c.a.nixiii4650
    @c.a.nixiii4650 Рік тому

    Have said this a few times with all EVs. They need an easily accessible place to cut the power from the 12V to do a hard reboot when crazy things happen. And also an easy place to access the 12V for jumping. Those two flimsy cables in the back will not hold up. Can imagine trying to plug a jumper cable to each and having it rip in half.

    • @towtrucktech1555
      @towtrucktech1555  Рік тому

      The jump leads in the back are robust enough to hold up.
      That being said, having remote jump posts up front, nearer that batteries, would make a whole lot more sense and eliminate complications.

      @@zackaryscott1265 - for Towing and Roadside purposes use the lower control arms, they are closer to the same plane as the winch and as the vehicle is drawn onto the bed your not unnecessarily pulling down on the front vehicle as you would be with the hooks.
      This is one of those rare occasions the OEM has actually validated the control arms for loading.
