This is how motor sports should be , I watched the complete race not long ago and it had to have been some of the best racing ever ! I grew up in the days when mini was king
The driver in the Galaxy must have accidentally hit his turn signal lever. his left turn signal was blinking when he came across the line. it goes to show these cars are a lot more stock than people think.
425hp? What a joke. The 427 FE sideoiler was Fords old nascar race-engine and was good for about 600hp in -64, depending on setup. The roadrace-version here, tuned by Holman-Moody, was set up for low rpm grunt and did some +550hp
Have always wanted to ask if I may, in regards to races like this, whey do they actually tape the headlights of the vehicles like they do, I mean does it really matter or not say if the car gets into a front end accident, the headlights would shatter anyways, right no matter if they ar5e taped or not?????
Well actually the Fairlane isn't a T Bolt. It doesn't even have the same engine technically speaking. What the Fairlane al.ost certainly is is a Holman prepped chassis that runs around 125000 without engine or trans or accessories. Add a Holman or NASCAR prepped 427 cross bolted 4v medium riser engine making around 475 to 500 hp like in the Mk 2 Gt 40s . The Thunderbolts ran an 8v hi riser engine. More delicate suited primarily for high rlm drag racing. Same cross bolted block but different PN crank and rods than the medium riser engines. Properly set up back in the day making around 525 to 550 hp. God knows what they make now. But memory servings time J checked a few years ago the T Bolt held the SS STICK RDCORD AND WAS RUNNING IN THE VERY LOW 9s OR VERY HIGH 8S. In 1964 when they took the 1964 SS/S championship I think it ran around 11.60s IN the 1990s I built a clone T Bolt with exactly the correct engine EXCEPT I didn't run the sodium called hollow exhaust valves. Too delicate. Also wasn't running same cam. WAS RUNNING THE 7 INCH WIDE TIRES. AND 4.10 REAR LOCKER. BEST WAS 11.35. but I didn't want to flog it too hard. Even then the block reciprocating parts and heads were hard to come by and pricey.
Today they make 930 hp and run 8 second quarters in super stock trrim . It's really hard to believe they can run that strong but they do Ray Paquet Stick shift car and Robert Pond automatic trans car
i agree, it would not be on the track, they had a special hood because of the engine set up and front heavy so this was a really modified ford smaller block engine to fit the body but i had the same car with a 289 and it was so much fun to drift around corners with even with crappy tires in those days it was planted to the ground, miss that baby a sports coupe that turned heads everywhere it went, bronze, odd colour with tan leather seats, 4 speed bucket seats loved it
Wonder if that thunderbolt is real or cloned? A 1963 Pontiac tempest 421 would beat both the Fords. Unfortunately only six were ever built and only five survive three of those station wagons for drag racing. In 1963 a 421 tempest coupe won the 12 our Daytona road race Enduro. Beating 427 Corvetts Cobras and Jaguars and Ferraris. Chevrolet was so embarrassed that an economy coupe beat their GT car that they used their influence at General Motors to get the car canceled. If it had not been canceled it would have been the original Pontiac GTO.
It`s not a Thunderbolt but a Holman-Moody -64 Fairlane, built after their own original racing-reciepe. And no, a Pontiac Tempest, even in racetrim were no match for thess Fords.
Blimey you Brits...that is not a Thunderbolt..it's a Fairlane of some sort. "Thunderbolts" were straight line drag racing cars only Not made for road courses. Don't know what your rules are, but stock it would have had a Hipo 271hp/289. No FE (big block to you Britts) in Fairlanes.🙄
@@GoodwoodRR it's not a Thunderbolt, but a Holman-Moody replica of their Fairlane 427 from the '64 Daytona race. Much better suited to track racing, anyways. There are multiple articles out there about this specific car from when it was for sale a few years ago. Edit: I think Holman-Moody is the cause of the confusion. On their own site they refer to these as "ThunderBolts", but they are 100% not a Ford Thunderbolt.

I had a 64 Fairlane that i drag raced…always loved its looks a smaller 63 Galaxy
Adrenaline , I really love that kind of cars
427 powered thunderbolt that’s so unfair for every other car out there lmao
BUT THEN THE THUNDERBOLT WAS MADE TO GO A QUARTER MILE STRAIGHT LINE NOT FOR ROAD RACING. HOLMAN AND MOODY BUILT SOME FAIRLANES FOR ROAD RACING.

Andrew Silva because old cars have glass headlights so the tape stop grass going all over the track

Slow down xxx Yeld

WOW
63 1/2 Galaxies rule!
How many versions can make of that race..
Love the car. But it not a Thunderbolt's.

It is a Thunderbolt, hence it was particularly fast in a straight line, and a handful everywhere else.
