  • I've had quite a few sound bags but none more challenging then designing one for the Cantar Mini. It's a whole different way to think, but thanks to Protogear and some recent innovations by Lectrosoncis and Aaton digital it's finally become a reality!

    I am always amazed at how far away your 414 mic is from your mouth and yet how close it sounds. That acoustic treatment must be awesome.

      Great seeing you last night Allen, yes I love this mic. I’ll have to count the panels in my room one day. It’s an accumulation of studios from the past. Def the nicest sounding room I’ve ever had.

    Another thing I found on the Protogear bag is you can actually mount a pair of Betso Bowties on each of the side enclosures (under the short zippers). Probably not the ultimate in terms of range, but it makes for a very tidy setup.

      Excellent idea Neil, that’s a great point to keep things compact when needed, like on a bus or something when your covering a wide space!

    I would like to purchase this kit. Does gotham sound have a hydra kit with this configuration?

    You can power your Sony coms with USB and this product AUDIOROOT eUSB-4XHRS4 from your existing power distro :)

      I trickle charge my Sonys from my main cart this way, it’s very useful. The Sonys on the mini cart I ended up moving out of the bag and on to the super Zuca, was getting a bit busy and the bag always lives on the Zuca when coms are in play.

    I am soooooo tired of not having audio examples to reference this high end gear. It is really frustrating. Are there an links available where I can hear this in action?

      There’s so many aspects to good sound. From the acoustics of the space, the actors voice, the skill of the boom op, the mic, etc. Gear is important, but it’s only a small part.

    Do you have a camer hop on the output of your mini, what do you use?

      Hi Jonathan, I typically do not for scripted narrative workflows. However the two pocket system on the side could accommodate another transmitter if one is needed or requested

    For crew comms, do you ever have any of the camera crew with a transmitter? This past weekend I was one-man-banding things, and I was quite a ways from the camera so it was challenging getting my framing set up. A mic on the DP or AC would have been nice, but I'm not sure if that's out of line to request.

      Haven’t ever run into that, but I’ve always thought it would be helpful to have script in my ears at times.

    Hi Michael, nice video, as always! Please allow me this rather off-topic question: How are those Sonys working for you, especially compared to Sennheiser G3/G4s? Thanks a lot in advance! Philip

      @MichaelWynneCAS  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Philip, They work great for us for crew coms, the only complaint about the Sony’s is the transmitter antenna is prone to breaking, so I modified mine with SNa, and it’s perfect.

      @@MichaelWynneCAS Thx a lot for your swift reply! Would you ever consider using them on talent in an indie- or ENG environment or is it best to skip that step entirely and make the jump over to a high end system, e.g. the Wisycoms, which I've been eyeballing strongly lately. I'm once again thankful for any input you can give me!
