It is exactly that, when I did speeds it would be 200-300 runs on the elite maps to get things down, on some of the top tier maps your looking at 300-500 and beyond for rank 1 attempts and yeh the memorisation is all part of it - usually they will tell the discord or forum when they think there ready to attempt rank 1 hence why lots of people watching when they do
