These things look great and I would love to own one but I just can't justify that kind of price tag ..$9000 to get your foot in the door...to save myself from walking 10ft to grab a disc from my shelf and put it in my oppo 203. If they ever did a mini all in one kind of thing for $2k-$3k I would consider it for sure.
Tough to argue the convenience factor here, as you have to download a movie fully before watching. Fine if you've built a library on disc already, but not as fast as buying and streaming from an Apple Tv or equivalent. And while quality will be better, most will not be able to tell the difference between a Dv/hdr movie from Apple TV vs uncompressed video from KS. Also, i get the price is high as this is a niche market for now, but it's just a glorified NAS box with attached streamer, which any low end cpu/gpu could handle. You could build the hardware out yourself for under 1k, not to mention the 2-3x markup on storage upgrades. Then on top of that the slightly higher purchase price of movies. Again, i get the reason, lower volume means much higher pricing to make a profit, but doesn't change the fact it's probably around a 10x markup on the base hardware cost. That said I love tech, and if money was no object this would be sitting on my shelf, but for us 99%ers, 4k discs and streaming it is
I've owned a Kaleidescape and then went my friend's house who used a Zidoo with a Nas. I went home and immediately posted the Kaleidescape for sale in every forum available. The Zidoo will do everything a Kaleidescape will do for a fraction of the cost. I had my 10tbs of space Kaleidescape maxed out with 150 movies while my Zidoo w/ Nas has 80tbs of space. The Kaleidescape very rarely will store more Metadata than a 4k Blu-ray and in the rare instance that it does, us (the consumer) will never notice visually or audibly. It's comical that this example gets used as a talking point (but hey, it's advertising) The Zidoos informant and layout is every bit as good as the Kaleidescape. Again, I've owned both units and I choose the Zidoo 10/10 times. Thank you youtubers for making content as you are appreciated. You should also be transparent on the "perks" you are receiving by pushing certain products.
I’d like to see them reduce the price, I’m not saying give it away for a ridiculous price but get it down to say 5k still expensive but more people like myself would invest
Yes the price is pretty hefty for something that going to be upgraded every 2 years or so. Plus TV's are getting bigger. I have a 103 projection screen I'm thinking of upgrading to the Hisence 100 inch tv. And that yv come with Dobly vision
I would absolutely love to buy this. I agree with all the upsides of Kaleidescape. Would LOVE to own it. However, the premium that you are paying for is largely just for convenience. Don't get me wrong, I love the idea and this checks pretty much every box on my wishlist for convenience, U.I., physical media conversion, 4K+ quality etc. That being said, no one can possibly convince me of the merit of the absolutely insane price of entry. Seriously? At the end of the day, the only thing this offers vs my physical discs and the $500 I originally paid for my Oppo is convenience. Not worth the $9K premium to me personally. I would be interested at maybe a third of the price. Maybe someday they will release an entry level version for the masses...
I prefer 4k discs. They don't discriminate . I tried to visit Kaleidescape. All I got was. "you are not American, can't help you, fuck off". Like my money are not good enough. Never got such a response buying a 4K disc on Amazon.
It's a great piece of equipment! No question! That said, if you decide to essentially pay 20-30K for this (Meaning if you want an extensive Library) you're Insane! To pay this much for Storage, is outright Robbery on their end! The player itself, I can see that price being what it is, No Problem. For the TB's and the "NAS" itself to be that amount is again just Crazy!
You and me both. The problem is I highly doubt they'll ever drop in price. They have been around for a pretty long time now already and they're still super expensive. The issue is they're the only game in town for this type of media player and they sell a ton so we're screwed lol
Yes i know what you mean. Ive grown up with physical media and probably stay that way for the time being. i do use netflix and others but perfer the collecting side of things, maybe its my age? lol@@brianhorrorfan

Not even close to the same system 🙄
@@motogp3478 I have experience with both systems and I choose the Zidoo
Wait until you venture down the pi rabbit hole and start customizing everything.
I would really like to see Kaleidescape offer Dolby Vision as some projectors are starting to have DV and many large 100+ inch TVs have DV.
I’d like to see them reduce the price, I’m not saying give it away for a ridiculous price but get it down to say 5k still expensive but more people like myself would invest

If you don't live in USA, can you register with Kaleidescape Store in USA rather than the one in Canada (less movies available in the Canadian Store)?
As a KScape owner, I can say it is a phenomenal system. That being said, I think the MSRP is stratospheric and make people question its value.
Jiles is my buddy. He's got an awesome setup that sounds and looks amazing.
Jiles is the man! Thanks for commenting!
I always wanted to know, does Kaledescape provide any options for a movie's audio language? Japanese is my thing! Thanks!
I want to see Player Led LLDV on new hardware. Im not betting on it though...
hey bud, do you plan to produce any new content this year?

Sounds good but priced for the rich!! Hmm may wait a long while before stepping into this, until the price is more affordable to joe public!!

I'll keep my pis and home brew nas.
Every tv, tablet and phone has access to all of my content.
I can't stand being tied to a company.
