It also has new bugs despite being a re-release meaning much less new code to make errors in and the bugs were prominent enough we found them to report on. Clearly this is a 90/100 game"
That company who made those are called "Nightdive Studios" and usually to 95% makes real bangers when it comes to "remasters" or even "remakes". And the very few times they usually screw up is when the "producers" they work for at the time no longer has any patience (most likely I guess). It's easy to see who puts soul into these things and who doesn't, especially with the new cheap AI stuff.
what was most indicative to me that the developers didn't even play this game is that in the 64 player battles, there are only 100 tickets. thats not even 2 kills per player so the rounds end in like 2 minutes
The og steam versions of these games still have working multiplayer btw. It's a little janky at times but it's way better than Aspyr's version and you can host your own lobbies with modded maps and eras. You'll always find at least one server with a decent amount of people playing on it
"Your toilet bidet could probably run these games" You're probably more right than you think. The PSP had a single-core CPU running at 222MHz with 24MB RAM. And BF2 didn't exactly run at max settings on that thing but it did run. Some "smart" home appliances could emulate that stuff.

Re-releasing two of the most beloved Star Wars games should've been the easiest slam dunk, and they were STILL too lazy to do it right, instead of for a quick buck. If people keep blindly spending money on this shit, it's still going to continue.

As someone who bought it on Xbox (a day after its release) there was literally only 1 server on first game, and the second had 3 servers going with the main lobby hovering at 30 players and was filled with bots. The bots were doing the most random spinbot shit to try lock on to other AI and actual players and you'd die from the most random shit and not be able to figure out how you died. Note I had my server settings set to everything to get both local/global servers and there was no full lobbies. I dont think the game has cross platform play either and it's just tied to the console or for at least Xbox
This kind of situations always remind me of those mod projects that are worked by a small team, yet manage to remaster a whole game like it was official, and all for free.
it amazes me that CoD was able to run the same engine for so long with basically just graphical updates but it cant seem to be done for other games. for this they could of re released the originals with the only selling point being ease of online access, just make the game accessible with online play, it was the same for halo.
if they released it in this state with working multiplayer and no graphical glitches I'd definitely pick it up for $5. At most I would consider $10. but 40 is crazy
This is absolutely an Embracer problem. They've clearly told Aspyr it had to go out now or they'd be out the door like so many others. Im not saying that the devs did a good job but i guarantee that they were given zero money for servers or networking. People will obviously crap on Aspyr (again no defence of them doing a good job). I guarantee it will come out that they were given nothing to make this and a time frame that was impossible. Knight of the Old Republic was there's when they were part of Saber. Saber have thankfully got out this month and have kept the licence to develop it with a cash split they have to give back to Embracer. I trust them far more to do a good job now they aren't under the incredible pressure that Embracer have pushed down on to every team working for them over the last year because they are running out of cash. Talking about giving money to Aspyr in this isn't really the case. Everything is being funneled up to the group because they have got themselves in an incredible mess of their own making and are thrashing around to try get money from absolutely anywhere. There are going to be more devs laid off and studios shuttered over the next few months because they literally have no plan.
I mean it’s not often you see a publisher underestimate player count this badly. Same thing happened with Helldivers 2 just not to this extent. I see what you mean though, it’s ridiculous.
If you want an ACTUAL good multi-player version filled with Voice chat, teamwork and Vehicles check out the modded severs in Squad. It's waaaaay better and has very creative and vibrant maps than any StarWars battlefield game

yes, the Galatic Contention conversion is really some of the best modern star wars you can play besides dice's bf2. Plus with squad since the main core of the game is teamwork it makes it alot more fun. My favorite battle iv had so far was about 2 years ago on geonosis where the clones had no idea where the objective was while my team as the CiS were sitting on a hill just creating a mega base, that could have easily been taken out with 1 airstrike, and just having an absolute blast talking to eachother and doing dumb shit, and of course trash talking the clones in all chat.

A buddy who also pre-ordered it spent the week before playing the OG game on PS2 and when we loaded it up the minute it become avaliable he was immediately bummed saying the PS2 version ran better.
Hot take: Pre purchases (of any game) should be non refundable so whenever something like this happens, pre purchase babies get shafted and they learn to stop pre purchasing.
I agree. Pre purchasing is stupid because it's just done when you're impatient when guess what? You're probably wasting cash on a game not worth it when you should just wait, see what the reviews are like, THEN buy it.
Honestly agreed. Only ever pre-ordered the Resident Evil remakes myself, and that’s because they offered comprehensive demos and impressed me each and every time.
These games were my childhood, seeing them treated like that is just infuriating. Glad I wasn't even aware of the release until after the release, I would have probably bought it for 40$ too.
What I remember about the launch of Classic Collection is... Is how broken it was. During the hours waiting to join a multiplayer lobby, the fanbase was discreetly transferred back to Steam support. It was a sad trip. We all knew what was about to happen; what we were about to do. Did we have any doubts, any private, traitorous thoughts? Perhaps. But no one was happy. Not on the game reviews. Not on social media. And not when we refunded the game. Not a one.

Battlefront 2 was so good it actually got me to watch and enjoy the prequals. It can't be understated how great that game was.
what was most indicative to me that the developers didn't even play this game is that in the 64 player battles, there are only 100 tickets. thats not even 2 kills per player so the rounds end in like 2 minutes
yeah, the Space part is normally longer than 5 minutes to complete.
And the og 2005 bf2 on steam already had 64 player servers, with mods even 😂
The og steam versions of these games still have working multiplayer btw. It's a little janky at times but it's way better than Aspyr's version and you can host your own lobbies with modded maps and eras. You'll always find at least one server with a decent amount of people playing on it
And there also a mod for it on the SWSaga Website.
"Your toilet bidet could probably run these games"

I feel like the NightDive remasters of Quake 1 & 2 should be shining examples of how to properly modernize a game. Just make the games run better on newer systems, give people the option to play the old version, crossplay, new features, and bonus content.

This was the definitive game for an era of my childhood. I can't stand where it has ended up.
