      Awesome, hope you find some useful stuff. I also have a website that has detailed tutorials that supplement many of my videos and provide even more information even after the video has been made. For example, I have information on RetroPie, Batocera, etc. here: wagnerstechtalk.com/rpi4gaming The menu at the top will allow you to jump around pretty easily for topics you're most interested in.

    The only thing I wish they would have done with the Pi 400 case was to either have a cutout to hold a 2.5" SSD, or a snap door or something.

      That would be pretty cool for a version to have a built-in SATA slot. Perhaps call it the Pi 400 XL or something. I like your idea!

    Hahaha I’m late to the party but I snagged a pi 400 so I can learn code better in a lighter (easier) form factor - just monitor, keyboard and mouse - I got one because I have so many handhelds that needs Linux to access the folders needed to make stuff so, I’ll update my experience as a noobie with the pi 400 (while it’s still cheap) as always on channel or elsewhere (I haven’t decided yet) -lol - loved your video Jon and hope to hear from again soon :) 💙 - BAN

      Great to hear from you and awesome to hear Shey - the Pi 400 is a great choice! It's a really nice unit and about 300Mhz faster than the Pi 4 Model B. If you want to try out multiple OSes, PINN Lite is something that might be great for you to experiment with (video link: ua-cam.com/video/1Cqta4go45U/v-deo.html ). There, you can install Ubuntu, Linux Mint, RetroPie, etc. all on a single microSD to experiment with. One OS I like a lot is TwisterOS, it has a lot of cool themes available, definitely give that one a try too. If I can assist, just let me know.

    I've never seen a ti99 before, I've ran ti99 and other ti emulators, but i had no idea how cool the ti99 looked, that silver casing looks epic. Makes me think of a Delorean xD.

      They were ahead of their time in some ways and behind in others. Still, awesome machines considering they are nearly 40 years old at this point. If you're familiar with Dragon's Lair, a few years ago someone made a cartridge that will play on the TI and it's amazing considering the limitations of the machine. Just if you're curious, you can find that video (and others) on this page: wagnerstechtalk.com/retro-computing/

    • @dgmr22
      @dgmr22 2 роки тому +1

      @@WagnersTechTalk I do know Dragons Lair (and Space Ace) I've ran them (in Retroarch) it is crazy that a laser disc game is running on a ti99. I have a couple of systems from that time, a spectrum zx80 and the slightly newer Atari st 1040. I still have a ti99 emulator on my psp called pspti99 it's a port of ti99sim.
      I just tonight (an hour ago) purchased the Raspberry pi 400 kit with mouse etc and i also purchased a 120gb integral brand SSD (and a usb adaptor) I've wanted a newer pi for years (I have a pi 1 model b+ somewhere) I was going to get the 8gb pi4, but the pi400 seemed like it would be a lot more convenient for emulation (especially for the older home computers like ti99, BBC, msx1/2, pc88, pc98, Atari st, Amiga) I'm sure it will make dosbox easier too.
      I really like your website it's great, i checked your VR section, i also have a quest 2 256, i got about it about 3 months ago, I set up developer mode (recently installed Minecraft/pojav launcher) have you tried the virtual boy emulator on it. I have psvr too, but since the quest i haven't used it again. I also checked your raspberry pi section which I'm sure will be handy when mine arrives.
      Have you tried any of the Orange pi's? They are insanely cheap now and were quite powerful, I had Armbian and retrorange installed, but unfortunately they don't have the user base of the Raspberry pi.
      I would like to dual boot on the 400, have the most stable os and the best emulation frontend. I really liked Armbian on Orange pi and now Armbian supports raspberry pi, is it worth considering over the official Raspberry OS? Lastly which do you think are the best options for emulation? Retropie, Batocera, Lakka or Recallbox?
      Thanks for the link to your site, i just subscribed to your channel too.

      I think you'll really enjoy the Pi 400. If you're wanting to experiment with a bunch of different OSes, this video may be of interest to you (PINN Lite: ua-cam.com/video/1Cqta4go45U/v-deo.html ). Keep in mind, you'll need to select all OSes you're interested in up-front, you can't change it later without wiping them all out. But, saves you from having multiple microSD's/SSD's.
      I have tried the Virtual Boy Emulator on the Quest, it's pretty awesome! I used to own one when they came out in the 90's, I may still have it somewhere but haven't been able to locate it.
      I have not tried an Orange Pi yet, I really should though (I'll look more into this). Thank you for your kind comments, I hope future content is of interest to you. I tend to rotate different subjects, but sometimes get on a particular kick and may see a few videos on a similar topic/product. I try to keep it balanced and hopefully helpful.

      @@WagnersTechTalk That is so cool you own a Virtual Boy, I always wanted one. I have a similar problem i can't find my Master System, I have all the cartridges still in their cases, but I can't find the system, maybe it got packed in a loft (attic).
      That sounds perfect for the pi 400, being able to install a selection sounds ideal, I really like playing about with Linux, although ive always been limited to what i can run it on, I used to run yellow dog Linux on PS3 and I have one of those old LLL little Linux laptops. I've also been curious about trying out the RISC OS on Pi. I'm glad to discover Armbian has official Raspberry Pi support, I think having access to the RPI community will be a great boost to Armbian in the long run.
      The Orange Pi is definitely worth a look, they are jam packed with some pretty cool things, i have a Orange Pi PC2. I just checked out their site again and they have started releasing new boards (seemed like forever they were selling the OPI 2 range) i also discovered they are releasing an Orange Pi 800 (a copy of the Pi 400) with some higher specs except it has only 26 gpio pins. Here's a link. Thanks.

    Does this suffer from the same emarked cable issue the raspberry pi 4 is facing? Also, Can I power it from my tv usb?

    • @WagnersTechTalk
      @WagnersTechTalk  3 роки тому +1

      AFAIK, the e-marked cable issue only existed in early versions of the Pi4 and was corrected on the Pi4/400. While the 5V from the USB TV "might" power it, I would recommend using the official power supply with the Pi 4.. Especially if you want to attach any devices to the Pi 4 USB port (SSD, USB sticks, etc.) or overclock.

    So that monitor is portable and not plugged to power in this video? So it has its own battery?

    • @WagnersTechTalk
      @WagnersTechTalk  3 роки тому +2

      It is a portable monitor and not plugged into a typical (110v) power outlet and the monitor does not have it's own battery. The power input to the monitor is USB-C, so in this case I'm powering the monitor AND the Pi 400 all from a single battery pack (Power bank to the monitor is a USB-A to USB-C cable). Here's a review of the portable monitor, if interested: ua-cam.com/video/zZVxXA_eCdQ/v-deo.html

    Does this work as a just keyboard? What I mean is can you hook it up to a pc/android device and use it as a keyboard? I assume no, but would be nice to use it like the raspberry pi keyboard you reviewed last year.

    • @WagnersTechTalk
      @WagnersTechTalk  3 роки тому

      At this point, going to have to say no. I did try connecting a USB (male to male cable) to both the USB 2.0 & 3.0 port, then USB-C for power to see if it would be recognized as an external keyboard. It didn't see it in Windows 10. However, it may be possible in the future with a firmware update and/or a custom HID driver. I'm not aware of any option like this at this point, however. While it looks very similar to the keyboard I reviewed last year, that keyboard had a single USB cable that would connect directly to the Pi 4. Hope this answered your question.

      Awesome! It makes a great Retro computing+gaming device. I picked up a 2nd Pi 400 from CanaKit myself, giving it away as a Christmas gift for my nephew. He doesn't have a computer and this should be perfect for him. Going to install TwisterOS and get everything pre-configured and ready to go. Picked up a controller and the GPIO kit so I can show him around on that too. Man, if I had one of these when I was a kid would have been much further along than I am today.

      @@WagnersTechTalk I have Twister OS installed.... It looks and works very good on it.... And, believe it or not.... It comes with a version of Wine installed, called Wine Desktop.... I was able to run old Windows 95/98 Software and few games as well on this Pi.... You should associate Wine Desktop to open the ".exe" files and that should do the trick.... Not all Windows Software will work, but as I said, I tested it with old 95/98 Windows Software and It worked! Also you might want to overclock the PI to 2 MHZ, the Pie will get slightly warm, but not overly hot.. Anyway... Twister OS and Pi 400... Perfect Match! And by the Way....
