I sabotaged myself intentionally from competing in the Miss California Pageant

In 1971 I sabotaged myself intentionally from competing in the Miss California Pageant. The previous pageants I participated in taught me my overall value didn't have anything to do with my measurements. It was considered appropriate to post teen girl's actual measurements in newspapers during that time. While I value the musical skills I was able to showcase in the pageants, I could not allow myself to complete in that manner.
I did follow my heart to build a successful career in the music industry and as a national speaker, author and art teacher. I'm grateful for the experiences being a beauty queen gave me. Yet, I'm more grateful for choosing a life path that represented my full worth and potential.
