I'm a Brazilian author who is about to self-publish a book about the root causes of depression, anxiety and suicide trough an holistic, spiritual and scientific vision. Here in Brazil the self-publishing and writing industry is not so established as in the US, which makes us beginners find a hard time to find professional editors and agents who really knows the business! I'd like to know if you guys have any names for indication here in Brasil. I'm also looking for translating and publishing my work in English as well very soon. Thank u very much!
Dawn, sometimes local media will not embrace an author, because their novel isn’t relevant to that local market. I live in Idaho, but my first novel is “Secret Under Pittsburgh,” and I’ve experienced pushback from local radio, tv, and print, just from the title of my book. And yes, I’m getting excellent reviews on Amazon. I could use help reaching a bigger market for my writing!
If the book is very specific to Pittsburgh, you could pitch radio shows, etc. in that area. In your pitch I would include information about why you wrote about Pittsburgh, what's special about it to you. If the title doesn't reflect the location of the story, then that can become the hook of the pitch. When you pitch local shows you say something along the lines of "you might think this book takes place in pittsburgh but actually..."
