I devoured this audiobook in a day and a half Jennie! I adored Honoria and Philip's story. The family tension, the history, the setting, are all wonderful. And Stevie Zimmerman is a genius at narration. She brings individuality to each character so you gain a clear picture of each one. Thanks for a terrific journey into the regency era, and for posting this work. Blessings to you, 💗Rita.
I haven't had so much fun in a long time reading. I love how historically accurate the books are. I'm grateful to have something to read at the end of the day that is this delightful. Thanks.
So lovely to hear and imagine as I’m handcrafting lovely classic lace garments in natural materials for ladies to wear forever! Some things never go out of style…such as clean romance and beautiful lace!
I listened to it on 0.75 and it was slower. I am a senior who has problems hearing but that seemed good to me. I enjoyed the story, thanks for sharing it.
What a wonderful story!! So sweet and relaxing to listen to. Such a refreshing story that feels like a real life story ❤️ thank you so much for uploading this here to listen for free!! That's very kind of you. Made my cleaning day so fun listening to this 😌 Not sure why so many are saying the speed is too fast. It's the normal speed of all audiobooks, and I listen to audiobooks all the time. Either way, you can slow it down in the settings so it's an easy fix if you need it to be slower 😊 Once again, thank you so much for uploading your amazing and hard work for free 💕
I commented before earlier in the book , now I have finished this wonderful story! You do not disappoint. I got lost in the story. The reader is. So good. She helps to make the characters REAL. Blessings to you and yours
Jennie what a wonderful book. Honoria is such a caring, practical, determined kind of woman. It was so cute to see her romance with the boy next door blossom. Philip was such a heroic, constant friend that he deserved her companionship. I like how often Philip gets a chance to carry her. It is so sweet. With her living next door to her Mother once married she can keep treating her ailments and I love your solution for the mine. I was especially touched by Philip musing on Jacob and Laban and that he was willing to wait years for her if he had to. (Sigh ❤) I suspect Honoria will get Philip to plant blackberry bushes somewhere. Stevie it was a pleasure to hear your flawless narration again. I hope you receive great benefit in sharing these with us. Thank you so much.
Something that audiobook readers don't know about but print and ebook readers do (from reading the acknowledgments) is that the mine-turned-spa idea was based on reality. Woodhall Spa came about that way in the Victorian era.
I've had a lot of fun researching this whole series. I'm writing the third book now and they definitely have a different feel to them than the ones set in London.
I'm so glad you like it! Christine's story launches in 2 days but the UA-cam audio version might be a day or two later than that since it's still being recorded.
The thing I love best about these books is that it is full on story - with interesting things happening all throughout the book and slow sweet character development... There has not been one book of Goutet's where I did not fall in love with the main characters, and even a lot of the supporting characters - lol Dang! I'm having such a hard time keeping the two characters straight - the two with the names that start with A and sound a like - I keep getting them mixed up and find that part of the book super hard to follow. The ending of this book was too soon! I did not want it to end - I wanted to hear about their wedding day and the days that followed and how Annoria (sp?) put the house into order... and kids - lol - seriously did not want this story to end! There are so many things that I love about these books - but mostly I love that these books leave me with such a feeling of happiness - and bring smiles even hours later
Thank you for another wonderful book! Stevie does a fantastic job. I do laugh when someone hears her doing a man...my dad asked me " what's wrong with his voice?" Then when I explain that it is a woman's voice and she voices all the parts, he was impressed.😂
I'm always happy when people tell me they love this one because it's a simple, gentle story - and too simple and gentle for many. As soon as I'm done with my current, shorter book (a Georgian romance novella set in Paris) I'll be working on the third in the Daughters of the Gentry series.
This is a very enjoyable story. However, I am a little frustrated as I feel I have listened to other audiobooks of the Regency period that have previously mentioned or introduced some of these characters or storylines, but I cannot find them. I recognize Arabella’s storyline from another audiobook, but I can’t remember the name of the book nor find it. I also seem to recognize Honoria, Philip, Theo, and other names from other previous audiobooks. Are Honoria’s parents from a previous audiobook? The description of the mine on one of the properties seems to come from another audiobook I listened to. Since I have listened to a great many of these books, I can’t recall the name of the books or even the name of the author. Do some authors share storylines, character introductions, etc., among themselves? It is getting a bit confusing! I would find it very helpful if authors would list in the audiobook description any other book titles that relate to the current book. It sure would help me keep them all straight! I’ve looked on the author’s book page, but short of clicking on each and every book to review the description, I am unable to locate which books are related to others. Even when the author has subtitles such as “This …… Series,” or “That….Series”.
Have you listened to A Stroke of Good Fortune? That's book 2 with Arabella's story (and Theo's). Is it possible you listened to this same audiobook months ago but forgot and are listening to it a second time?
@@JennieGoutet That is very possible! I will go back and re-look at it. My goodness, you’d think I’d read these multiple-part books or series altogether, but I don’t. That’s my fault :). I read them out of order as they come up on my feed or mixed in with other authors. Thank you for responding!
When I listen to it the speed is normal. Is there a chance that you're playing the video at a faster than normal rate? You can adjust that in the settings (the little wheel icon). And even if it's normal and you find it too fast, you can slow it down. But for me it sounds like all of Stevie's other books that she's done for me.
@Jennie Goutet it is faster. I'll admit, most books labeled romance take forever to get on with it. This is refreshing. And I don't really like romance, so it must be way better than average for me to be listening.
Very interesting. I enjoyed it. However, it left me wondering about the side characters; what was going on with the young widow Arabella and her brother in law? What's her back story? Did she find love and happiness in life? Also Christine? What of her fate? Did she end up marrying?😅
I'm working on Arabella's story right now and it will be out in July (though audio possibly not until August since my narrator will be away). Christine's story is not until the spring of next year because of my publishing schedule and two other books that need to come out before then.
(I just peeked at your channel and I wanted to tell you that we - here in France - are hosting a Ukrainian teen and she is lovely. Our church has welcomed refugees coming from our sister churches in Ukraine although many have returned now that the conditions are more stable in many areas).
@@JennieGoutet Oh wow that's amazing! Thank you for doing that. I can't help but feel grateful at how compassionate foreign communities and especially Christian communities are to the woe of my country ❤. God bless you all!! It was so fun. I wish some day we will be able to visit France for longer than that 😊
I'm surprised to get these responses since the book sounds completely normal to me when I listen to it - it sounds like all of my books narrated by Stevie. As Svieta said down below you can adjust the speed. I hope you'll be able to enjoy it.

I loved this story, especially being set against the backdrop of the canals and the era of the Industrial Revolution - my favourite period in history!

Just as good on the second read.
even though i like it, it was hard getting into. But the ending was not so bad. is there a book two somewhere I would like to listen.
It's going to come out in August.
Thank you. Just wondering about muskets for fowling?
Yes, this was an error in my research. It should have been a fowling piece.
Listening 10 January 2023.
Change settings to. 75... You're welcome 😊
