Once again I am blown away by your skills and precision of your work Olha !! Those wales look just fabulous, really nicely done and no attention to detail is forgotten. Really an inspiring video and always so nice to see how you work and that you take your time to explain how you do things !!
I enjoyed watching how you work and your methods - красивый! I have never built a ship, but I've made lots of small vessels like fishing boats and sailing yachts; the last two were a gaff-rigged cutter and a packet ship. I build mine from scratch because the kits I want are hard to find; I'd love to know where to buy some good kits though. If I do, I might try building a big ship. Your work is so impressive - впечатляющий! I look forward to seeing it finished!
Thank you very much! Try checking your local modelers' stor or you can always order directly from the manufacturers websites, they all now have worldwide delivery...
You never neglect a construction step... your wales are fantastic! Ebony wood does not seem to be the most pleasant to work with. Do you know that you are talented )))
The amount of time, determination, and talent required to build model ships is _incredibly_ rare today. Few people who buy kits finish them, even the beginner ones (although I highly recommend it). At a time when people mostly spend their spare time online or streaming videos, hobbyists like Olga are exceedingly rare. I live in a seaside community with lots of people who build simpler models for tourists to put on their windowsills and such, but only a few make models worthy of a glass case like this. Anyways… If the quality is like Olga's ships, then it's _definitely_ worth what the builder is charging. Each and every time you look at a model like this, it's like stepping into another dimension.
Im very facinated about building models, but never build ships before. Im fasinated how u build your ships and give tip how to build them. Im asking myself "What r u doing now?" and later in the clip u show why u did it. Its a very good teaching clips u makes for total beginners, and i presume for builders who have build many ships too. Do u build from totally scrath where u only have build drawings from a ship? U do a amazing build. I will never be so pro ever.
Helio Ohla,I like to build models, and I have started whit Confederacy and I hope you continue to show who you are building the skip,I have learn a lot from you,Thanks. Br Björn
Yes, I will be making brass wire nails for the wales. And therefore, hard wood will only facilitate this process. I will imitate the rest of the planks as I have already done on the lower counter...
Hi Olha, nice job on attaching the wales, the wood looks like ebony. very dense stuff. what wood do you use as a filler for the hull, is that bass wood? Rich
This model is still on the shelf, since all my time is currently spent on the restoration of the frigate BOREAS. But I'll be back to this model in about a year...
Thank you! It is a passion since childhood. Only I first cross-stitched my ships. Until, in 2010, Deagostini's magazine appeared with details for building a galleon)))
Olha, What size naikls are you using in tour home made clamps to secure the wales to the hull? I have some small nails that I have attempted to use foor the small clamps I made; but, they bend so easily, they dont work. Thanks for all your help!!!
So good to see Confederacy again... such a huge undertaking. I am hoping we will see it on display at the 2024 Northeast conference ??? Not finished of course !!
Hello again dear Olha. It's always a joy to see you modeling and your perfection. Thanks again for this video. But I have a few questions for you iff you don't mind? What is the size of this ship and what compagny makes this model? Your friend Gerard
@@OlhaBatchvarov Thank you for the information. I have looked on the internet and the price of this model will be around 700 Euro for the Netherlands, much money i think. But still a beautifull ship. Many greetz to you and family. Gerard
Yes, I love this class of models. In Kyiv, where I come from, radio-controlled modeling is the most popular and there are very few "bench modelers". But I'm not very friendly with electricity - my biggest achievement is lighting on the model. But on my first such lighting - I literally burned 250 diodes before I found the right resistors)))) Therefore, I'd rather just watch how other modelers build radio-controlled models...
We call it: SLITTING FILE, look on Google. I would like to give you links but UA-cam will delete them... If Olha has a link I think she can put it in the description.
My husband brought me a "souvenir" while he was on fieldwork in Europe. I only know that this is a real Japanese file - I am simply delighted with such a gift! Well, what else can a husband bring to his wife from a business trip)))
If you are just starting this hobby, this model is definitely not for beginners. You should look for something with double planking and a smaller size. Check out my playlist about sloop-of-war HMS PEGASUS. It's the same scale as this frigate but half the size and it's really easy to build! P.S. I can't put a link here because youtube will block the comment!
All my models are on pause while I complete my commission for the restoration of the HMS BOREAS. P.S I've started planking on the Confederacy and it's also a long process...
A technical question here: while installing the boiled planks to the boat wouldn't it have been easier to fix/glue them at the bow first instead on the broadside? Therefore you'd have more lever to adjust them to the contour of the ship? Maybe there's a good reason for doing it your way, i just don't have the deeper knowledge in model ship building...
After boiling, I only pre-bend the planks, and finally I bend them directly on the hull. Therefore it is better to have a completely fixed part. Although this is probably a matter of experience as well. I'm just comfortable when the middle of the plank is fixed and I can continue to bend it with a soldering iron or, as in the video, a special heater in both directions... By the way, on this model it was much more difficult to bend the planks in the stern than in the bow. Because there they also have to be bent in two planes like a propeller!

This is a black hornbeam and for filling the spaces - yes, it was a basswood.

question, wouldn't the heat-bar on the wooden beam break down the glue?
Heat only accelerates the quring of the glue! This is PVA glue (or white glue)...
Your work stands by it self .
Question how did you get started in models anyway?
We all have our story to tell what got you going ?
