Great info, I like the idea of changing the colour of the tone as opposed just making it more gainy. As an aside you play exceptionally well, you certainly know your way around that fret board. Thanks for the upload🤙🏻

Yep...great of you to share your hard-earned experiences with the world.
You’re a tremendous resource of info.Saving up for my amp x after I pay off a few bills...
I do a little gain-stacking,but I also don’t want to be tap-dancing all night so I keep it as simple as possible, but no simpler.

Great lesson and great tones master. The amp boost was engaged when you tried the overdrive and the tone bender, I wish you had turned off for a moment to hear how this gain stacking sounded into your crystal clean amp. Enjoyable video anyway. I love gain stacking and experimenting with drive pedals

Great demo! I’m still very much a “turn the volume on a tweed just past breakup and go” kinda guy, but when it comes to recording or mixing in with the band more, this could come in handy

I think the boost into the overdrive channel on the amp sounds the best. But you can create a nice palette of tones with switching the different pedals, etc.

That was a cool video! Maybe next time, you could play with the pedal order as well ;)

gain stacking is great for bedroom playing. i try to stick with two pedals max. sometimes with compression pushing it as well, but that's usually just because i'm stupid and caught up in the moment. two pedals really is enough at any given time lol

I love gain stacking. I firmly believe that any amp or overdrive pedal sounds better with a boost in front than with a little more internal gain.
What about boosting a low gain od with a higher gain distortion pedal? I feel that sometimes it help to retain the transparency and overall sound of the low gain overdrive (that I love best) adding grit and edge for leads sounds. The point is that I firmly believe that the last saturation device is the one that gives its character to the sound, and everything that is put before just gives color.
Most people, instead, use to put overdrive pedals in order of crescent gain: that is good for some uses, but makes you lose lots of subtleties of the lower gain pedals.
What do you think about this?

Leandro Diana I believe that with stacking you can get some of the best Tones. All my heroes did it! Some of them without knowing... it’s worth to spend time on that subject! Also in that way you can get closer to your personal unique tone, as YOU choose the combination and settings for your guitar and your playing style with your touch. And Theresa magical enhancement when overtones from one stage get clipped in the next stage... it’s like cooking... enjoy delicious rich tones!!!!! Cheers, Thomas

I been running a 1993 gibson les Paul studio into a rat into a idiotbox dungeon master (muff/super fuzz/hm2 stacked pedal) into an orange cr120c...... am I doing it wrong?

Would you always suggest putting high gain pedals last?

    • @ThomasBlug
      @ThomasBlug 4 роки тому

Yes, typically you´d use gain in this order: compressor -> Boost -> Overive -> Distortion

    •  4 роки тому

It’s a suggestion, but not a rule. Try every combination possible out! You’ll learn and have fun in the process. :)
I, for instance, discovered that my tonebender type pedal loves a klon type after it...

Not sure if I really learned any "don'ts" of stacking, just put a butload of boost pedals in a row, in front of a "clean amp" and call it a day. ("clean amp" being one thats kinda hairy and just about distorted if you play hard enough, like most pedal videos). lol.
