Separating DMs, CMs and AMs is actually difficult. You could do 3 separate top 5s but catergorise them before you get them to vote to avoid confusion

I knew it busi is underrated af from a football fan's point of view bcs his g/a is low, not flashy with the dribble or a physical monster but that's the role that he wants, he put all of his talents to be in the shadow and work behind the scene to support his teammates, in the interview he also said that he doesn't want to be in the spotlight he just wants to support his teammates as best as he could. For me, Grizz is correct to put him on no 1, the only ones who praise Busi performance are always the manager and players with a high footballing brain like pep, xavi, iniesta, messi, del bosque, sergio ramos, Modric, and even Johan Cruyff. When you watch the game you dont see busquets but when you watch busquets you see the whole games, quotes from del bosque.

This is a good list tbf. My mid three would be one of Pirlo/Scholes, Seedorf and Zidane. Although Xavi is more elite controller but more suited more to a tiki taka system vs the other two who had more variation in their passing and attack.

@@footballminds3706 Cool bro. I am going for more of a Ragista (deep lying playmaker/holding mid) role for either Pirlo/Scholes vs a pure DM. I think when Gattuso was defending, Pirlo was more of a floater and Seedorf was more AM.
So my playing style would be - dictate tempo and connect with defense to attack with a Ragista. And elegant composed number 10. And a skilled powerhouse box to box to dominate and make sure to win any midfield battle.
And yes, i never saw Maradona but you can't go wrong with the goat lol

Not saying I agree or disagree with Modric's rank, but as good as his performances were for Croatia, they were a bit overrated imo. I remember watching Croatia and thinking how good Rakitic looked, and Perisic was also very important to that team. Modric played great, of course, but people act like he was carrying the team which just isn't true.

Honestly what he did in the world to get to the final deserves the respect it’s gotten. He wasn’t the only one playing at a top level but he was literally collecting the ball in his own box and dribbling through and creating one-twos to get to the opponents box, he was brilliant and I think most people could see he was clearly Croatia’s best player for the whole run
nah.. i partly agree.. modric was the engine that carried them but i dont like how they ignore rakitic and perisic contributions especially for their world up run. Rakitic was an absolute master and put a shift in every game in the world cup and not to mention, he took and buried 2 game winning penalites that pushed them forward to further rounds.

I agree Busquets is top 6, and a good shout for number 1. However, what works against him is that we've seen Pep create teams at Bayern and City with DMs playing just as good. Tiago at Bayern was said to be the best in his position during Peps time, and now the same is said with Rodri at City. It makes me wonder how much of it is really Pep.

The most underrated midfielder of our time. Bro hasn't gone lower than 92% pass accuracy per season since he came to la Liga. He makes easy 17 long passes 95% to 100% per game. Most chances created, most passes into the final third. İgnorant people think he's just side ways.
He dictates the tempo just as much as anyone mentioned here. He has 1 world cup and 5 champions League with 2 teams.
Not as flashy but most people just talk without really knowing.

I think tht center mids you need to break them down into DM, CM and CAM. Too many different roles. CB, Fullbacks, wingers, strikers are a lot easier to define.

The only people that don’t appreciate Paul Scholes are the English apart from United fans. Thierry Henry and Pep both said they’d take Scholes over Gerrard and Lampard and then Grizz mentioning Xavi and Messi who both said the Scholes was admired as one of their icons at La Masia.
Scholes was brilliant I see him above lampard and easily. Gerrard is the player all the legends on this list rate. He’s clearly the top dog in terms of what’s come out of England

From what i’ve watched from around 2000 on I’d go:
1 - Xavi.
2 - Iniesta.
3 - Gerrard.
4 - Modric.
5 - Busquets.
Honourable mentions:
Pirlo, Lampard, Alonso, Seedorf, Makelele, Vieira.
Liverpool fan who swear to god, wouldn’t have traded Gerrard for Ronaldinho he was that important to us. But Lothar was Gerrard on Steroids.
Modric is overrated personally. Also Zidane deserves to be at least in the honourable mentions.

Lampard is not among these other midfielders but don't disrespect him by saying he can't do anything other than score goals. He is up there with the most assists and that is to Drogba, who apparently doesn't score enough goals. He's also created the joint most chances in a champions league final or something so he's not just a goalscorer like many of you think. And we've got the stats to back it up. He's one of the best goalscoring midifielders of all time so don't act like scoring lots of goals for a midfielders is a bad thing.

I prefer to group players into tiers. It might be boring but it's a better way.
Tier 1 for me in no particular order will be
Modric, Xavi, İniesta, Kroos, and some I'm missing.
Also grouping cdm, cm, am doesn't make sense. Eg. Lothar Mathäus for me is in the DM categories.

Lampard was definitely a honorable mention (not in world top 5) and it was only his international record (like Scholes, Keane, Gerrard etc) that goes against him to get higher ranking. Gerrard's the most complete midfielder of his generation. Didn't play under a world class coach or in a world class team, and still managed to take on the titans and beat them. Shame we never got to see his final form.

@@georgeb8679 I think they're the same. There are many metrics that go into judging a footballer. The midfielders that Gerrard was battling and the defenders he faced are head and shoulders above what De Bruyne has faced in his career. Plus, there's no way De Bruyne carries that Liverpool team for 10+ years. Gerrard's biggest mistake was not taking Mourinho's, Ancelotti's, or Real Madrid's offers to either join Chelsea/Inter, AC Milan, or Real Madrid. He would've gone on to be the best CM of all time imo had he moved.
