Paying for public toilets? I am a fan of this principle, because they are usually always clean and disinfected. However, I have not yet seen a toilet in the whole of Europe that costs 4 euros. As a rule, it costs between 50 cents and one euro. In America, on the other hand, where the public toilets are free, I wouldn't even enter one in a disease control suit. Weapons do not create security, but they cause deaths! Weapons do not belong in private hands.
In the UK, we recycle all the time, , at our homes we have multiple bins, , we have a bin for general waste, plastic and cardboard, a one for glass, and a bin for garden waste. one week, your general waste is collected and the second week recycle is collected, we also have dotted around, free waste and recycle centers, where you can get rid of old houshold items, which goes into skips, to be recycled, If you get something wrong in your household bin, lets say a glass bottle in the cardboard bin, you get sticker on the bin, and the bin will not be emptied. I made the mistake a couple weeks ago, put the ash in the cradbord bin from my BBQ, it was not emtied, i had to clear the ash
In the Netherlands smoking is also not allowed in buildings. Even in some open space area's like theme parks its also not allowed to smoke only is certain designated area's who are usually out of sight. The reason why you prolly see alot of people smoking is because they have to be outside.
He said in Europe they call it holidays and in the USA you call it vacation. Well, first we don't give it an English name. Then ... in the Netherlands "vakantie" (see the similar spelling?) is the name for the trip you make when you go a way for a coupe of weeks. Time off from work we call "vrije dagen" (= free days). I guess we never know what Engllish speakers call it, so we just give it a go... holiday or vacation.... who cares.
In Poland we use the word 'urlop' which is similar to German 'Urlaub', and the word 'wakacje' similar to 'vacation' means summer school break or summer trips. We use nothing similar to 'holiday'.
So, Amy, you're almost living like a European :) You don't have a dryer, you don't have air conditioning and you cook your meals. It will be easier for you to adapt :)

You have to pull over onto the right lane whenever there is free space and especially when there is a car coming up and there is space to pull onto the right lane. It's called Rechtsfahrgebot (a law that obligates you to drive on the right side, except for overtaking). If you don't do it, not only are you holding back traffic (which is against the law) you also coerce the guy behind you to overtake on the left (which is also against the law). It's as save as it is to drive here, because we have so many regulations and laws. The left lane is called the "Überholspur" (Lane to overtake) for a reason. And just because we know English here, doesn't mean we are obligated to speak it.
