Boulder Dash front seat on-ride HD POV Lake Compounce

- It's won our annual coaster poll four of the last five years running, so we wanted to return to the park and film this CCI (Custom Coasters International) wooden terrain coaster in 3D. Unfortunately the weather didn't cooperate and we will be returning to the park again in August to give it another try. In the mean time this mounted on-ride POV will have to do.
Lake Compounce is located in Bristol, Connecticut.

The setting of a coaster going through a forest is so beautiful. Unbelievable!
I was just thinking about this. The Beast, Raven, Mystic Timbers, Grizzly do the same.
Just what I was thinking, I love the way it's nestled in between the trees.
It really does look beautiful.
You don't have much time to enjoy it. You're moving 60 miles per hour, so everything kinda just flies past
I hardly noticed when I went on today, I was just focused on how fun it was
Roller coaster deep in the forest and you don't need a disney theming. Absolutely beautiful classical ride.
It ain’t anything like that though. Plus you don’t notice it cause the roller coaster is the most intense thing ever
I like how it's surrounded by trees. Very pretty landscape but I'm sure it's extra work for the park to maintain.
People's heads keep the foilage trimmed 😅
@@NathanElcoate Good one...lol 😀
@@beatricejust7549 💇💇
Yup its on a mountain :p
@@NathanElcoate the foliage keeps the people's heads trimmed
I recently went on Boulder Dash and believe me - it's WAY MORE INTENSE than this video makes it seem! Very fast, aggressive ride! Loved it!
I dunno, it seems very intense in the video. I loved it.
Agreed. You're being thrown around and rattled
same! just went on it today
utube9000 true the next day my whole body was hurting
I hated it. Friends said it was slower. Bullshit this thing is a BULLET. NOT RECCOMMENDED FOR FIRST TIMERS (take my advice you'll thank me later.
This coaster is far more intense than this video describes. It’s crazy and it’s built on the side of a mountain! Once when we were about halfway through with the first stretch, we saw a Black Bear standing on that gray boulder on the right, above everyone, waiting for the breeze from the coaster as it went by. Lol, I was like WOW!
This ride is brutal at night during a thunderstorm. I’m a part of a rollercoaster group called ACE (American coaster enthusiasts) and we get to stay after hours or before the park opens during events and get special extended ride times exclusive to our group. We got one on boulder dash once, it was maybe 11 at night with lightning and got really dark😅
Sounds AWESOME! I use to be a member of ACE in the mid 90s. I'm still a coaster fanatic! This seems incredible but harsh. 💯🔥🔥🔥
Now that is a cool little ride, a roller coaster that feels more like an alpine coster. That's just really neat.
Nah bro
@@Pimptopher420 what is it then
I think this is a little more intense than your typical alpine coaster
This is not a “little ride.” It’s a beast of a wooden coaster and easily one of the best in the world
The best part of this roller coaster is the end because you feel like you have cheated death. Awesome ride!!
For real though I almost fell off of it
Boulder Dash is the absolute best wooden coaster I've ever rode on!
Rick Mileske Agree
I prefer the Beast at King's Dominion.
The Beast at Kings Island is better
@@BobMocarski it's the same thing. It was King's island back in the 20th, now it's King's Dominion.
@@Daakusutepsu1 Wrong! Kings Island is in OH, Kings Dominion is in VA.
There is no other coaster like this one. It's a coaster lovers dream come true.
It deft is, went on it today 7/20 for the first time
So glad you enjoyed it!! One of the last hills is the fastest. It's unreal!
Cant wait for the retrack
Kevin Lee Burns there is the Beast in Kings Island. FYI
Excuse me the smiler is better trust meme
If you are going to ride this ride, I recommend both the front and the back seat. They provide completely different rides and are both fantastic. Do it at night if you get the chance.
New England Thrillseeker I like the back better. Tried the front yesterday. It wasn't as good to me. Much more "feel" in the back.
The back is so scary and bumpy but it was so fun
Which one will give you the least brain damage and nausea
@@minimuffin7399
Front, but honestly you shouldn't have a problem with it unless you're sensitive to motion.
omg the back at night is the BEST! 10/10 recommend!! ✨
Would love to see this filmed during the splendor of autumn!
Unfortunately the park isn't open during the fall except on weekend nights
@@bryantoliveira2813 They're screwing up there
@@bryantoliveira2813 I thought it was closed every day during the fall. They're open on weekends?
Mini Muffin Halloween stuff
This coaster only has one chain to pull you up the hill and then release you into a non stop fun filled ride!
DadzChannel NotCamerons yah... that’s how roller coasters work...
dark mode is better On UA-cam except a few
@@Hi-uv7nn I think they are referring to a one chain system, rather than multiple chain hills or launches. I used to think multiple chain hills was 'cheating' slightly, and a second chain made it into a second coaster, but, most of the very oldest coasters has 2 lift hills...
@@themightyimp08 Those coasters are extremely rare though. So I guess I'm still confused by the comment.
This thing looks absolutely INTENSE
It really is
Ben Parrish it is But you get used to it
It is
It is i ride it today and have a picture of me and my friends on it
This ride is intense, fast, and painful. If you have any kind of back or neck problems don't ride it. The last few bumps will rattle your brain.
i have neck problems and this does not hurt me in any way. wild cat on the other hand...hate that ride. it's more painful than fun
there retracking the rough parts
There's really only one spot that's gotten painful in the past couple of season,s right at the end. They're completely retracking that section for the 2017 season.
maiseydoodle yeah
maiseydoodle this ride would be better without the bumps
Only us Connecticut people know what this is ;)
This coaster is known everywhere
I am from London, England, U.K. and I've been lucky to have ridden this, one of my targets. It is brilliant, intense and wonderfully terrain hugging with plenty of air. Terrific.
@@fredMplanenut is it worth a drive up from New York for a visitor? Also Six Flags New England and Canobie Lake?
@@visionist7 If you have time, they would be great choices. I wish I was not so far away. Good luck.
Yep :P
The lush greenery of the woods just adds a lot of character and makes it interesting. The landscape and the ride design complement each other very nicely. On my "Ride Before I Die" list.
Finally went to Lake Compounce yesterday as it's about 100 minutes from my house. Waited for the complete back on Boulder Dash. Holy shit is this ride intense. Definitely my favorite classic woody. Wicked Cyclone at SFNE is my favorite wooden coaster, but it's a hybrid so I can't really say it's "wooden." =P Boulder Dash is amazing and worth the visit alone.
FYI - Wicked Cyclone is a steel coaster.
I usually just go by rcdb, which they call it a hybrid since it has wood in its structure.
HellAshes Yes, it's a hybrid. However it's a steel hybrid, not a wooden hybrid.
Ah, I see. Interesting. So what determines the difference? The material used for the track?
HellAshes Exactly. It's the track that determines what type of coaster it is. So a steel hybrid coaster like Wicked Cyclone has a wooden support structure with steel tracks and a wooden hybrid coaster has a steel support structure with wooden track (like the world famous Cyclone at Coney Island).
I love the Boulder Dash. A highlight of my vacation to America in 2017 🙏❤️
I recently rode Boulder dash september 2021 and it is one of the most intense wooden roller-coasters I have ever ridden. For only being 21 years old it shakes and rattles like an older ride.
Love this thing. I think a huge part of what makes it awesome is how it careens through the woods, as opposed to a big track structure just smack in the middle of a park.
By far my most favorite wooden roller coaster ride at Lake Compounce .
This ride, hands down, is the best roller coaster I have ever been on in my life. Not too slow, not too fast, and bumpy enough to give you minor injuries.
You nailed it on the head lol! I love it!
This coaster is as good as the video looks - truly a badass ride. One of the best - ever.
Boulderdash is one of my favorite coasters and I've ridden quite a few. The reason I rate this coaster so high is because it gives you a feeling like the damn thing is about to come off the tracks at any moment. It just feels completely out of control. I still feel like el toro is the better coaster but this one is unique
I live only 15 mins away from Lake Compounce, so I'm lucky I get to ride this consistently it never gets old to me. When Boulder Dash opened in 2000, my parents took me for my 10th birthday. I ended up riding it five times in a row I was hooked. Whoever designed this track knew what they were doing. The scenery of Mt. Southington, speed, amount of turns and humps is perfectly balanced. The video doesn't do it justice it's WAY more intense than it looks. It thrashes and tosses you around but man the rush is amazing. This is by far the best wooden coaster I've been on. It's worth visiting Lake Compounce for Boulder Dash alone.
I live like 15-10 minutes from there
I love this roller coaster. It's a fast, fast out and back ride built into the side of a mountain. The sounds and mechanical feel on the wood make it an updated version of old style coasters.
You know, when you think about it, this is the REAL Son of Beast. Both are notable for taking their paths through the woods, and geniologically, sons are typically smaller than fathers through childhood (as is the case with Boulder Dash being a lot smaller than The Beast). But mostly, it's because both are woodies that go through a forest for the duration of the ride. Son of Beast had NONE of The Beast's traits.
Well that was never the point of Son Of Beast. Back when Kings Island was Paramount's Kings Island they branded it as the "bigger and badder" sequel to The Beast. They wanted Son Of Beast to be superior to The Beast in every aspect and of course that wasn't the case. If you ask me Boulder Dash is in NO way comparable to Son Of Beast, it doesn't meet the criteria to be the Son Of Beast.
I rode this more than 15yrs ago and I still talk about this coaster. This was hands down one of the best wooden coasters I've ever been on. I heard that they changed an element on it a few yrs ago but still looks as good as it was back then. Can't wait to go back cause it is definitely worth the trip.
Has to be one of the favourite rides with the old style wooden style tracks / railings
That is really cool how it follows the land and has such a constant high speed. It could have gone another mile if they didn't stop it!
Yeah. The last stretch of track (where its straight and going up and down over the humps before pulling back into the station) looks kind of weak in the video, but in reality the car is going so fast that you are getting air time off the seat on all of those humps. Not a ride for people with back or neck problems for sure, and primarily because of that last section.
Yesterday, I went to Lake Compounce. Totally recommend this ride if you want to go on a woody. The drops and hills are steeper than it looks and is faster than it looks.
On this ride I screamed " IM TO SKINNY FOR THIS!" the whole ride while holding on for dear life.
Boulder Dash is definitely one of my FAVORITE rides I've ever been on! Super fast and pretty long and the scenery is gorgeous!
Great coaster for folks with a fear of heights. The tree canopy makes you feel low.
This is so true- to put it in perspective the tallest drop on this ride is 115 ft while the Incredible Hulk at Universal is 104 ft! i’ve been on this ride multiple times and I’m TERRIFIED of rollercoasters and drops so def great
And yet, it's quite an intense ride! The second half by the lake is actually the most violent part.
A wonderful setting for a woody. Looks like a great coaster.
The setting makes this coaster awesome
Been on this coaster many times. Ride is a lot more intense and faster than it looks in videos. Best wooden coaster ever. And Lake Compounce is a beautiful park.
It's amazing how important the terrain is. This might be boring if built in a typical flat concrete amusement park. But as it is, I love the ride.
I've been on this many times. I grew up in CT. I live in FL now and have been on every roller coaster here and Boulder Dash still tops them all. There's no better feeling of intensity then this coaster.
This video doesn’t do this ride justice
It’s such a good ride so bumpy and so fast
Loved it!!
My daughter and I rode this coaster over and over and over again when we visited this park several years ago. LOVED IT!
I love old wooden roller-coasters and this was the best one I've ever been on
This ride started out looking like the Grizzly at Kings Dominion.. I sure do love a Rough Head-Banging Wooden Roller Coaster
go ride the hurler at carowinds, it will rattle your goddamn head.
@@davemustaine6694
Actually, Hurler at Carowinds isn't that bad. The one at King's Dominion was worse before it was converted into Twisted Timbers.
There's one part of the ride where it feel like the coaster will fly you out of you're seat.
Keiry Gonzalez it’s true
Keiry Gonzalez We call that airtime.
I love that going thru the trees. I want to go on it.
One of the most beautiful setting for a wooden coaster i have ever seen
Looks a little rough, but I just love how it weaves through the forest like that! Beautifully done :D
This is going to be my first rollercoaster and this video made me pumped for it!
Incredible coaster with ridiculous pacing! Thundering through the woods at that speed is just amazing 😍 my no.4 coaster 👌
That was the best coaster ride I've not taken in my life. I need to ride this!!!
What a nifty wooden roller coaster this one is! I wouldn't mind having this one in my own back yard, if that were possible or permitted. This ride is definitely one-of-a-kind, due to how it makes use of the wooded terrain like that!
Honestly this is my favorite roller coaster. It's definitely top 5
i got to go on this late at night once during a staff party. my oldest brother had worked there many years ago and took me. BD + Darkness is the single best ride I've ever been on.
That was a rickety ride. I can't imagine the back seat experience with that roughness. Beautiful scenery though. I love rollercoasters moving through the woods.👍🏽❤️
That's one of the best videos I've ever seen of this coaster. I love terrain coasters!
I love this coaster. I trekked from Allentown, PA to Bristol CT opening year and it was during their halloween weekends. It was one of the colder nights so th epark was a bit empty the queue lines were so short they let us stay on (Since we rode the middle) for 6 straight trips.
Boulder Dash is my favorite coaster with The Phoenix coming in at number 2
That looks truly relentless. I’d love a go!
What an amazing ride. This looks like a ride that really test the wear and tear of a track as well as the coaster train. I love your videos, CoasterForce!
Rode this coaster for the very first time yesterday, easily the roughest and fastest coaster I have been on to this day, but in a very good way. My favourite ride at Lake Compounce.
The video doesn't do justice to how fast and rough this ride is, but still an awesome video all the same.
I’ll be there soon to vlog the park and ride BD again - cannot wait!!! 🎢👍😊
That's one fast wooden coaster and i love the overgrown greenery , must have been a tough install !
When it was built it was the worlds fastest wooden coaster not sure now though.
The “White Knuckle Mile” here in New England.....one of the most intense and exciting wooden roller coasters in existence. Pure speed, tons of air time, and the scenery is great. Ride it at night!!!
I rode this for the first time today and this video doesn't prepare you for what is the actual experience! This video is awesome but the ride in person is absolutely bananas! What a rush it is!
I haven’t been on Boulder Dash in years. Last time I went on it, I was about 7 or 8 years old. Man, what a rush that was! I thought that it was gonna break since it’s a wooden roller coaster. I screamed out of my mind because of how scared I was when it became super intense. I would have gone on it in summer 2019, but I didn’t get the chance to go on it. If I go to Lake Compounce again this year, I’m definitely going on Boulder Dash with my friends. It’ll be my first time going back on it in god knows how many years. Voted the world’s best wooden 🎢! That thing is almost as fast as an EF-0 tornado!
That looks like an awesome roller coaster!!! Nice layout to it and the landscape is really pretty as well.
Went recently, and this coaster was amazing!
Hands down my favorite coaster. As many others have stated, the video doesn't do it justice...it's a pure adrenaline rush. My biggest worry the first time riding this gem was that what would happen if a tree branch fell on the tracks...I mean, how would anyone know it was there? And going through the forest like that, you didn't know what waited around every corner. If you can get there, Boulderdash is a must-ride for any coaster enthusiast.
This coaster is awesome. We go on it a bunch of test every year. One of my favs
Lake compounce is a great park and boulder dash makes it super great and its my FAVOURITE ride at lake compounce
Every time I go on this ride it kills my back, but it is a good coaster for how fast it goes. Especially for a wooden coaster. They actually changed it years back because of complaints about one of the ramps at the end. But my son and I will be on it Thursday when we go there for our first trip of the season
Used to live about 30 minutes from here. Rode this many times. One of the most scenic rides you'll ever go on. All of the trees add to the sensation of impressive speed! But do not be fooled, this classic wooden coaster is much more intense than this video shows. A girl I know actually got a concussion riding in the last car, no joke.
That looks like one of the coolest roller coasters ever!
Nice scenery , nice coaster with lots of air time.
This coaster looks fun. It's the same premise as The Beast at Kings Island. The Beast is my absolute favorite coaster on the planet. Would love to ride Boulder Dash as I love the idea of rushing through the woods. I bet maintenance on this coaster is a real pain. They would have to cut all the vegetation below and on the sides of this thing several times per year. I bet it is a beautiful ride in the fall!!
Instant nostalgia from summer camp.. thank you
I love how it wraps along with terrain
Love it 💖 never before this video have I *needed* to go to CT. Fantastic landscape on this coaster.
Still not a good enough reason to come to CT
@@405Army 😝😝😝
Connecticut is a beautiful state. It's the politicians that suck. Trees everywhere Jessica. You can drive nice country roads that have trees like this
@@richardmaher4410 yes and keep driving.
wow, this is an amazingly beautiful ride!
If you live in CT you feel me, your trying to eat in piece near the trolley tracks and all you hear every 2 minutes is brattttatatatatatattaatattaatatatatand SCREEEEEEEMMMMM when the ride passes 😂
With the person I was next to on this, it was one of the best moments in my life.
Great fun. I love the sound of wooden rollercoasters.
That is one cool-ass little speed coaster! I was half expecting a moose to be standing on the track when we came around some of those blind curves/hills. Would love to ride this one.
Fast, basic ride, lots of anti-gravity and absolutely beautiful scenery...👍👍👍
Through the forest. That’s awesome
Went to there last weekend, first time going on this ride, it was very intense but also fun
Love terrain roller coasters really liked the layout. Looks fun!
I love how it is nestled in the trees. Reminds me of the TN Tornado, at Dollywood.
This is amazing. No words for this
Great coaster, I wish this park would build up more and add coasters, great location, short lines
I think part of what makes this ride feel SO damn fast is being surrounded by trees on either side of the track so you have constant, close reference points for just how fast you are going. All speed is relative, so being immediately surrounded on all sides by objects that are not moving will definitely increase the sense of speed versus most coasters which are high up in the open air!
F it! I went today and rode it 8times back to back! It's much rougher than I remember. The front seat is the smoothest. Such a fun ride!!
Went on it many times since live only 15min away. I was on it the first week it opened; it was a completely smooth ride back then, You still felt like you were going to fly out of your seat near the end though. The ride has gotten rough but still one of my favorite wooden coasters.
This was the best roller coaster I rode so far!
Its layout was inspired by the Rollo Coaster, a small wooden coaster at Idlewild Park (both parks are owned by the same company, Parques Reunidos).
Omg!! That ride looks amazing!! I would love to ride it
This was my first real rollercoaster. Imagine that I almost pissed my pants due to the speed. Very fun tho
One thing it doesn't capture is the brutality of the double up. Phew!
Ya, it got me good. I haven't sprained my neck like that in a long time - if ever. I thought it might be lasting but it was gone when I got off the ride. Body hanging in but I'm juiced up with a good base of glucosamine in my system at present and that may have made an enormous difference. 'One pill makes you larger and one pill makes you small - and the one* (dose) your mother gives you don't do anything at all.' Triple doses for three or four days 'cured' me of about 15 years of left hand strain from classical guitar work. I'll swear by the stuff. It's great you don't need to take it all the time, once there's a good enough base of it in your system - you can lay off and just monitor yourself-as needed. I'll just forget about it for a long time. But back to the point. Boulder Dash ROCKS ! ! ! ! ! !
Best roller coaster. My friends and I would get off and immediately get back in line over and over again. On a good day/night the wait time would be ten minutes or so. I miss lake compounce!
This is a great coaster. Very beautiful.
Never have I ever been so conflicted on how I feel about a Coaster.....
I was never more restricted.. lol
