Babbitt greater than Carter?? That's a statement!! I'll stay with Carter, his music always has drama. He's Haendel while Babbitt is this clinical, cold ass Bach 😂
+gnikcohs Yes, this is a common thing in Babbitt's late work. The counterpoint is exceedingly dense, not just among the instruments but in the lines of the instruments themselves. By the way, one of his pieces, written for Elliott Carter, is called "The Crowded Air" ua-cam.com/video/rK-5aDzHzsY/v-deo.html
One of Milton Babbitt's many masterpieces.
What a light, dancing, and lovely piece.
Superb late masterwork from Babbitt. Fabulous textures.
Thank you! Mr. Babbitt and his wife were a sweet couple.
Brilliant. Astounding clarinet playing
Fabulous late masterpiece!
Bravo.
Wow, so pleasurable.
Moving this ahead of Carter's and placing it in the top three all time alongside Brahm's and Mozart's.

On this one piece. I'm with you. As much as I love select Babbitt, EC is the goat.
RAYAANNO EL SOL , DE LOS DIOSES MANA... Q ERMOSO
Folksy - wolksy!
Piece gets a little crowded and jumbled up it seems to me.

Dense, yes. But crowded, no way.
I can relate to this. For me, his piano writing is a more immediate way in - if you don't know them try 'Allegro Penseroso' or 'Canonical Form' .
