I appreciate that this video was meant to address racism and islamophobia, but I do would like to point out a few underlying issues i found in potrayal of religion. Throughout the video, it can be seen that Islam is portrayed as something that is too restrictive or suffocating and the girls are shown to be trapped in it, and this is where representation of Islam is getting problematic. The girls are shown to be unexcited for Ramadan and see it as a burden (Muslim holy month of fasting), when in reality the majority of muslims look forward to it, and it instills in us a lot of spirituality and God consciousness, motivating us to develop good habits to practice throughout the year. Likewise, when Mathew calls the girl out for coffee, the conversation abt the girls taking out hijab when in middle school, the ending scene without the hijab etc are all instances that project a very restrictive image of Islam which isnt true. We have certain boundaries in our faith as a protection for us. I understand there could be muslims who struggle with fasting and performing religious obligations, but that comes down to personal feelings and how we battle with it. No one is perfect and Our Lord knows that and we do battle with it. But when a video is made on such a topic, if we project the personal weaknesses we have inside of us to the public as representatives of a religion, it does instill a very wrong picture, right?. We may not be perfect, but we believe our religion is, so we cant let our weaknesses and/ or sins be representative of how our faith is. Not sure if this was intentional or unintentional , so maybe next time in videos , try to show people who represent what the religion teaches them :) , would really appreciate that :)

The meaning behind this video is amazing! But there are few things to point out, and obviously this is only to advice others. As a Muslim, it’s not permissible to touch the opposite gender nor “date” the opposite gender. The hijab also represents a lot more like protection (one example) and as for Ramadan, many Muslims actually get exited and look forward to this month all year long, as it brings many rewards and blessings and forgiveness from Allah SWT. And as a Muslim we should assume the best for others. Also I know everyone is on their own hijab “journey” but there is one correct way to wear it, the hijab must cover the hair and neck, ears, and the body should be covered up, sleeves should be past the elbows, bottoms should go to the ankle, you shouldn’t show your body figure either. May we all be guided by Allah swt, the most merciful. Overall amazing video! :)

As a desi hijabi these are the issues I have with this skit
1.) If it’s so hot why is she wearing a jacket
2.) If that guy was making them uncomfortable why didn’t they just go inside the school
3.) How does a kids football paralyze you
4.) Just cuz that guy got her scarf back that doesn’t mean she has to go out with him now since she says it’s not allowed in her religion
5.)They shook hands
6.) This is so unrealistic to happen in a public place in the middle of the day while there’s people everywhere if they had just yelled everyone would have come running to them
