Oh man, age 14, watching the 1992 Video Music Awards, eating popcorn, stayed up late even thought had school the next day. But seriously what a great show. I'm sure even Dana Carvey had some dreams come true that night.
This was a great bit. And I heard that it was taking a while for U2 to stream in, so Dana Carvey had to ad-lib like crazy to fill the time. That alone was impressive.
I remember watching this on TV at 15 years old and it blew my mind that U2 was playing at the Silverdome and a global audience was seeing it. I can't believe The Dome is gone. I loved that place. It's eerie to drive by there now.
I was there too! Openers were Disposable Heroes of Hipoprasy and PRIMUS!! What a show - was wearing my Lollapalooza II shirt from July 1 of that year at Pine Knob! Lush, Jesus & Mary Chain, Ministry, Ice Cube, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam aaaand The RHCP to close it out on fire!! 🔥🔥🔥 What a year for live music!
I was just watching Wayne's World for the zillionth time and I just remembered this bit from the MTV Music Awards. This was pretty mind blowing at the time.
Great memories I was 15 god bless you zoo products. Zoo TV the greatest show on earth period truth facts. Saw Charlotte NC show 1 st leg and Columbia SC 3 rd leg tour.
MTV claims this collaboration with Garth and U2 was improvised in the moment. As a television crew member of many, many productions since 2006 I'm here to tell you they're full of shit. Something like this takes careful planning a little luck.
I completely agree with you, this probably took a lot of planning. Must have been silly for those in the actual audience to sit there and watch Garth drum out of time cause of the delay back to where the show was being broadcast from.

I remember seeing this as a kid. Man, this was a trip. I miss the 90s.
90s : high point of civilisation
I was in Detroit that night. Great show
I remember this, I was like 9 at the time. Now I’m 40. Where does the time go? I miss the Mtv of yesterday too. And pop culture in general.
Miss the old MTV

I was at the U2 concert at the Pontiac Silverdome that night. It's the one time I've seen U2 in concert and it was amazing.
I was there too! Wearing my Lollapalooza 2 shirt..picked myself out of the crowd after watching it on VHS we taped it on haha
@@cannachefchris9346 that's awesome. I taped it to watch later too but we were somewhere in the lower bowl and I never could see myself .

This is U2.

Hey there, do you trade videos? I'd really like to get a copy of that Conway Twitty in 1990 episode.
THE OG FACETIME

Planned but seems so natural

Great copy! Is there a Full MTV 1992 copy?
It all went downhill from here, folks!
Bono is so annoyingly witty! He has a comeback for everything!
He is Irish, part of life there!
Looking back on this, it was probably the most cringe worthy moment of the Zoo TV tour. Edge looked like he couldn't wait for this bit to be over.
You can't make any of these jokes anymore. All canceled. How awful.
You obviously don’t know how jokes work.
