    there's another option to change ide to ahci.
    just change the setting first to ahci and then boot to safemode,
    after booting to safemode, the ahci drivers will automatically install then restart,
    now you can boot on ahci mode without bsod.
    tested on windows 7,8/8.1 and 10

      Life is DEWG I see your point. I'll admit that I'm so used to Linus channeling his inner marketeer that I didn't even notice it until I read all these comments about it. Usually I'm too lazy to start skipping parts of the videos and don't mind a short and to the point sponsor message. Rather have it overt but separate from the main topic -- now that I think about it, the non-sequitur segues between segments regularly crack me up. I can see why others who tend to watch up until the sponsor outro then skip ahead would not enjoy that if it turned out to be a break with what has been an established viewing pattern they enjoyed.

    • @CommentCritic
      @CommentCritic 7 років тому +15

      I've already explained it, it does NOT belong at the end of the video.
      Most people click away before the video ends, just as the sponsor spot starts. Therefore it would be useless as an outro because only about >20% of the viewers would actually see it. They put it at the front they have the chance to grab the newcomers. The only middle man option would be to change it into a mid-roll asset that appears in ie. the top right-hand corner, and instead of the voiceover, we'd have short text lines.

    • @CommentCritic
      @CommentCritic 7 років тому +3

      1: If you don't like it, kindly fuck off. The pathetic thing is not the intro itself, but you bitching about a 10-second channel roll that can be skipped by pressing the right arrow twice (exactly 10 seconds forward).
      2: Not viewers new to UA-cam, but the Techquickie channel. Obviously, the subbed people wouldn't need to do it, but "outsiders" need this kind of encouragement, because as the statistics show, people like the video and fuck off, because its a one-off kind of scenario. They search up a problem, they get their answer and go away. Its the tech-savvy people that sub to this channel, they just want to get a little bit more knowledge about it.
      The whole idea behind putting the segment before the main part instead of after was explained before. If you still don't understand why, I can't really help the brainless.

  • @wispthehusky
    @wispthehusky 7 років тому +121

    I get it. You want to boost the channels sub count. Of course, the content is great, but this should be am OUTTRO. It's invasive as an intro and doesn't fit the theme of techquickie.

    Linus, since Windows 8 you don't need to change any key on registry in order to OS recognize AHCI.
    Just make sure BEFORE doing, create a local account and set up windows to do next start in safe mode, change the setting on bios and wait for the system to boot up on safe mode, change to initialize again normally and done.

    Experienced the same boot error (BSOD) when I changed the SATA mode from IDE to AHCI, so I reinstalled Windows. IDE is intended only for compatibility with Windows XP or older operating systems, as they do not have included AHCI drivers, and AHCI support is only introduced in Windows Vista.

      Mark Arca reinstall can be avoided by setting up safeboot in msconfig so it boots into safemode after changing to ahci in bios. After boots turn off safeboot and restart then ur done.

    3:10 alternivly, insted of maby ruining your pc with registry, you can do a quick google search on how to get into safe mode. then boot into safe mode. go into bios, and then boot into safe mode just to disable it. in sumery, win10 IDE -> win10 safe mode with IDE -> bios/uefi -> win10 safe mode uchi -> win10 uchi .

    Can you make a video on:
    What's the difference between 2.5 and 3.5 inch HD ? Can you use 2.5 instead of 3.5 inch with no compromises ?

    Call me a moron, but I noticed sometime ago that my bios were set to boot my SSD in IDE mode instead of AHCI mode and, just as Linus shows in this video, I was welcomed to a blue screen when I attempted to load Windows 7 up in AHCI mode. All of this time, I've been content with running my SSD in IDE mode because I couldn't be bothered to reinstall Windows 7 under AHCI mode, which I had assumed was the only way to get this working.
    Thank you for this video. I followed the registry hack, set my bios to AHCI mode and here I am with Windows 7 working in AHCI mode. I'm anxious to see for myself if I have any bump in performance. :D

    I have a Dell Optiplex 760 that I bought from my local library's sale. I'm trying to install XP, but it won't work in ATA or AHCI and it's missing an IDE option. I keep getting the Blue Screen of Death code 0x0000007B

    Does this mean that if Bios setting is IDE, than Ssd will perform as fast as regular IDE drive? I have consider to upgrade my old notebook with ssd drive and I cannot find AHCI/IDE option. This probanly means that I won't benefit from ssd installation.

    Most modern motherboards are already set to use AHCI by default. I know all the ASUS and Asrock modern boards I bought are already set to use AHCI. However, that doesn't mean all of those boards have AHCI enabled by default, I think it all depends on the manufacture and the BIOS version that comes installed on your board.

    Great Video! By the way I have a question, I have a hp notebook model (17-bs025cl) and I can't really know if my optical drive bay supports SATA (and which SATA version if it supports it) because I'm planning on installing a SSD in the optical drive bay using a caddy
    I've tried lots of third party software and they say it's an ATAPI.. I can't seem to find an answer on the web on what is this ATAPI or whether my device controller is SATA or IDE please if you can help me in anyway.
