When Diamond Head first released Lightning To The Nations 40 years ago in 1980, few could have predicted the importance it would carry with regards to heavy metal’s new wave and sound. Stacked and packed with riffs, Lightning To The Nations would be one of the prime catalysts for a movement known as the New Wave of British Heavy Metal (NWOBHM).
Re-imagined, re-recorded and re-born in 2020, Diamond Head’s 40-year celebration of their genre-defining debut album is a scintillating shot of fresh metal energy. With Lightning To The Nations 2020 listeners experience not only the rare phenomenon of crisp, fresh and new sounding songs with very little of the obvious original elements altered, they will also be treated to four supreme cover versions… And in prime position stands Metallica’s ‘No Remorse’. Lightning To The Nations 2020, available now at: smarturl.it/DHLTTN2020
The band's latest release, Lightning To The Nations (The White Album) [Remastered 2021] features not only the original album from ¼ inch master tapes which Lars Ulrich helped Brian Tatler retrieve back in 1990, but also alternative mixes of classic cuts “Lightning To The Nations”, “The Prince”, “Sucking My Love”, “Am I Evil?” and “Sweet And Innocent” never publicly released (or heard) before. There is also brand-new cover artwork based on an idea Brian Tatler had, to show a character referred to as ‘The Lightning God’. 2004-2005 I was a big diamond head fan. My friend did some research and found Brian was teaching guitar. We found his phone number and called him. He was so cool. He spent 30 minutes chatting with us about guitars. Brian rocks !
Just brilliant melodic solo from 4:04 till 5:04 Just British old school steel. Thanks a lot.
Lord of the Riff
ALL HAIL!!
Thanks Brian. I still have your Play It Loud single on a 45. Your music was part of the soundtrack to my teenage years...and I still listen now.
I gotta ask. Is it the Play It Loud Live version with In The heat of the night on the other side or another one?
Man this absolutely insane, I was literally just practicing this song just a few hours ago and this shows up, thank you so much Brian!
Nice one Brian. Still got the original vinyl album with plain white sleeve. Had to get it mail order back in the day !
Yeah, I've got that too. Loved the band back in the day...what an album. Iconic.
I always loved that second solo! Thank you
always loved this solo because of the descending bit
My favourite Diamond head song to play live when I was in the band! 💥🤟🎸
Brian the leads you start at 4:05 get me everytime i love them so much.
Little-known fact: Metallica's "Black Album" which was housed in a plain black cover was in homage to Diamond Head's original "Lightning To The Nations" album which came in a plain white cover.
I remember seeing the flying V for the first time as a kid, mind blowing. When saw the price tag I felt offended 😅I was just a kid, no way I could afford one. I just stuck to my Japanese guitars. 25 years later, I still get offended when I look at the price tags.
you know you still want one
Lol and now the Jap V's are the cost of the Gibson's 20 years ago
Just redicovring Diamond Head 40 years after getting into heavy metal why oh why didnt we go crazy at the time .Great band ,live on.
Thanks Brian! I love all the stuff you've done
Great stuff.
Diamond Head's best song.
Legendary and timeless!
Never boring watching this from the first time see
Brian is the best, thank you

Incredible Brian - guitar hero of mine since I was a kid. Bought the White album after discovering songs off Garage inc as I was a huge Metallica fan in my teens and I loved the Diamond Head tracks that I hunted down the white album lightning to the nations fell in love with all of it
One of the most underappreciated riffs in the history of rock & roll.
Magnifique le solo de guitare 🎸🎸🎸🎸
You kick ass, Brian! What a great album Lightning To The Nations is!
Just when you think life can't get any better, God himself is teaching guitar on UA-cam.
Awesome!
Great song and amazing performance
Thanks for the video - Awesome guitar playing, as usual!
The main riff has such outrageous amounts of swagger
dude metal forever\m/!
Amazing
Awesome...I'd love to see you explain some of the more adventurous tone, chords and solos from "Canterbury"...Knight of the Swords, The Kingmaker, and the insane, gloriously weird chordage of Canterbury.
Still kicks ass
super thx
Badass man
Hey Brian...good to see you....outstanding tune...🤙🏼
Он профи! DH рулит!
Sounds killer!! That bass sounded amazing too.
can Mr. Tatler do a playthrough of "Helpless"?
I had one of the white sleeved albums that I later read was Lightning To The Nations.. Those early gigs must've really impressed! I sold it many years later to a Metalica fan for a goodly amount, but sometimes regret it. I must dig out some photos from those gigs.
OMG! MASTER!
пипец классные вертухи в риффе!
Hell Yes!
Never boring watching this
Hello, Very good 👍🤘, bravo...
Wow
Catchy as hell ❤
Do Helpless!!! I listen to that song off the 2020 album everyday at my job! Its brilliant and sounds so much better than Metallica's version!
You gotta try the 1980 version, in my opinion the vocals are even more expressive and intense
I love the way to play...Smooth and heavy at the same time! Lovely bonding on that neck and body of your V too !🔥🔥🤘🤘
Badass old man
Cracking
So lucky this man still alive
came here to learn that melodic solo i love that
pretty cool, perhaps we should play together sometime with Brian
The best and most influential band of the NWOBHM and if anyone tells you otherwise they're in Iron Maiden.

Never let Metallica cover your music, because they'll do it better than you
