- Dempsey and Statler are going to meet Dempsey's dad for a make or break meeting. 'If he doesn't like you, we'll probably be over' Dempsey tells Statler. On the way there, in the cab, Statler drops a bombshell. But things only get even more awkward when the meeting actually takes place!
Dempsey's dad is clearly unimpressed with what he hears. 'Don't let her push you around!' he warns Dempsey.
So, will this put the kibosh on Statler's plans to move in with Dempsey? Or will Statler continue trying to go 1000 miles an hour?

My theory is that she's trying to reproduce her early life adoption in a way that makes her feel more loved and accepted than she did in childhood. Centering her relationships around moving in with her partner instead of any other relationship goals gives me that idea.

I’ve dated a girl like her (honestly my very first adult fem-fem relationship) and she was a lot like Statler (Moving at crazy speeds, lacked respect for boundaries, and was manipulative & needy as all get out). She also didn’t understand why this was an issue and had been told that in the past by other women but didn’t listen (again, like Statler). It was so off-putting and def made me run in the opposite direction!
I’m curious as to how she thinks she’s going to move to England. UK immigration is notoriously difficult. If she thinks she’s going to show up at the airport and tell them she’s there to live (which she would - no filter on that girl) they’ll put her on the first flight back to the US. She’s delusional.
This is the same thing I've been asking myself too. I am planning to move to the UK to get married and it's not like I can just up and move there.
My friend went on a one way ticket to get married and they threatened to send her home without as much as her toothbrush! They don’t mess around!

It’s pretty crazy to try to use Valentine’s Day to manipulate someone into letting you move in. The crazy part is I don’t think anything Statler has done has been spontaneous. I think she had all this planned out months ago which makes her ten times more insane, clingy, and psycho….The funniest part tho is I’ve not heard her mention one single thing about the process in moving from US to UK? There’s no bigger red flag than someone telling you exactly why none of their relationships have worked and then goes and does the exact same thing to you. I mean cmon. She said, “she’s worth the gamble.” Lil dum dum bug lady doesn’t even realize the gamble would’ve been NOT rushing in. The gamble would’ve been for once maybe doing things the right way. A different more realistic way. The reality of it is she’s choosing her selfishness and lack of ability to change over Dempsey. The biggest way she could’ve showed Dempsey how much she means to her would’ve been to take things at Dempsey’s pace and respected her and her boundaries enough to take her ass back home to the States and see where it goes. Not try to thrust herself into Dempsey’s life by being reckless, irresponsible, and change absolutely nothing from her past mistakes. If anything she’s showing Dempsey that she’s nothing more than just another girl like the ones in her past. What a screwball….

Also, in a past episode, when she was getting ready to go to the UK, she told the cameras (or a friend??) that she was going to meet Dempsey, and if things went well, she would go back to the US for a couple weeks, sell all her stuff and move to the UK.

@@cathy_clarinet the first episode when they introduced her she was working online doing something but said she was not a good worker she only worked 20 mins or so and would take a break? Recently it seems like everyone says they have ADHD or something in that category and use it for an excuse for everything. I am not saying she doesn’t have it or something but like I said these illnesses have become an excuse for bad behavior, poor choices and their mistakes. I wonder how she pays for her trips and living, were her parent’s wealthy?? I know she also blames them for things since she was adopted, Statler seems to always be blaming something or someone else and taking no accountability. I know she could not work for a good while in England and someone told me she would not even be allowed to work online, I don’t know. I do know she can’t just show up at the airport at immigration with a one way ticket and say I’m moving in with my girlfriend. She would need a visa and I assume like here someone would have to sponsor her. This is the first Dempsey has heard about the move so she isn’t getting her a visa. Her lease was up in a month and I know it takes longer than one month to get a visa. None of this adds up. TLC may be scripting much of it but we aren’t as dumb as they think, make it make sense and this doesn’t. Old saying: don’t pee on my leg and tell me it raining, it kinda fells like that is what TLC is trying to do. Sorry if that was a bit crass.
Even with what TLC pays that won’t last long and it’s not permanent, well except for Angela, Big Ed, Liz the ones we never want to see again, they seem to be on permanent salary.

I don’t think Dempsey getting her dad’s approval before committing to a relationship is “sweet.” She should look within herself for answers rather than seeking validation. Also, she seems to be triangulating her dad, and intentionally or not, creating conflict in her relationships.

I think Statler is super insecure because of her past and her ADHD so she tries to mask it by being a comedian and sometimes her comments are not well received. On the flip side, it’s not acceptable that Dempsey invited her to fly around the world to stay with her and then sprung the news on her that she didn’t have adequate plumbing or hot water. It’s not like Dempsey lives in a third world country, it’s England. I would complain about that too if I were Statler.

7:00 All of this but. Yeah I’d tend to agree that she is being manipulative. BUT also will give her the benefit of the doubt (I really shouldn’t but it’s unavoidable), the lack of eye contact when saying something that feels awkward doesn’t mean she isn’t being genuine, there’s a lot of people who find it hard in situations like that. However, I do sense a reason and planning behind what she is saying that is just to be manipulative. Like she’s preparing the ground if she gets a bad reaction from her dad, she has played that card in advance so she can say she should think for herself and cite this moment as her supporting evidence even though they’ve only been together for 2 days.
On a separate point. I’m going out on a limb here to guess that somewhere down the line, one of them has changed their name. The name they’re using might be on their Mail ✉️ etc but I’m going to guess it’s not on the birth certificate. That’s a bit of a red flag to look out for too. But harder to find out.
Finally is it just me who thinks Statler and Dempsey sounds like it should be some sort of American TV cop duo show?
