Even though many critiques about the game itself are correct (and many are not lol), we shouldn't undervalue the importance of what this game is doing in regards to the RTS tecnology developed. The custom games, performance and engine work is already very important in terms of tools. But rollback in an RTS? For me this is absolutely revolutionary. Just check out what it did to fighinting games, now it's a set market standard. I just imagine a future in which we could get WC3 or Brood War with rollback, so that I could play with an asian or european without nearly as much lag! Broodwar is a global ladder, this would be such a game changer! Let's be hopeful with what doors and paths this game is opening, even though gameplay-wise it still has a lot to improve and will, certainly, with time (patches, expansions, continuous development).
Rollback works for this game because of the increased TTK. Imagine splitting Marines against Banelings, and the game rolling back some frames. Rollback would SUCK for something like SC2.
Yes, I am sure it will get better with time. That being said, SC2 just has this snapiness with unit movement that no other rts comes close to. I like what I see here, but the sluggishness of the units is a little closer to SC1 atm, but not nearly as bad as AoE4.

Completely agree. When I tried Stormgate for the first time, it seemed more like Warcraft 4 than Starcraft 3 which is how it was marketed. I rather lost interest in this game because of that. Also I hate concept of heroes in single and coop, which is what they will be going for.
ZeroSpace looks so much better to be the successor of Starcraft 3 with heros/warcraft 3. However, Stormgate will have more support and different modes such as 1v1, 3v3, COOP, campaign and custom games.
I agree that Zerospace currently looks better than Stormgate, but I believe it is further into the development pipeline. However, the quality of developers and the money Stormgate has (35 million) will just outpace Zerospace. 500k that Zerospace raised(I backed that game as well) is not a lot of money. That's like a 4-6 developers' 1-year salary.

Super ugly. I refuse to play games that look like they could have been developed for mobile 15 years ago. Regardless of how "revolutionary" we're being sold on them being.
Looks good, might even go and back the kickstarter so I can give back to the RTS genre as I love it soo much, but I doubt I will like it more than SC2. Not only is it slower, which isn't a bad thing, as it will likely have more mass appeal, but I think that a slower game will have a lower skill ceiling which won't be as good for the pro scene. Also it's pretty "cartoony". which is definately a personal issue, but I liked Starcraft's more "gritty" design, closer to Warhammer 40k, but this entirely a personal design taste thingy and I think that once again this will result in larger mass appeal. I am confident that I will enjoy this game, but I doubt it will be better than SC2, for me at least. The gameplay looks fine, but the cartoony graphics is not a small issue, for me at least.
I don't get this idea where people think SC2 in particular, but also Brood War, had a "gritty" design aesthetic. Terran buildings in SC2 are silver/gray with gold trim and the player color. Zerg in BW has literally neon all over their buildings in the player color. They aren't gritty. They are more realistic, which is a completely reasonable preference, but the "grittiness" is literally just bright colors existing in lower resolutions in most cases.
@@2639theboss I think when people say "gritty" they're referring to realism. The SC2 models are for more realistic looking with a much higher polygon count than this game's. It's not just the cartoony/moba color scheme.
@@allanshpeley4284 Then say realism, gritty specifically implies a dirty or semi-broken visual. Mad Max is gritty. But just to be clear, people are upset with realism in a sci-fi game with alien spaceships the size of planets? But the marines are human-sized and have more polygons then a game in beta, so its objectively better? The new COH is realistic as hell. It also sucks balls. Im not going to play it, or give it bonus points, because the graphics are more realistic then AOE2 or SC2 or BW. If the RTS is shit mechanically, or lacks strategic depth, or effective coop/modding/multiplayer mechanics, then people can say its a bad game. But we know nothing about the core of the game yet, it could all change drastically, but the graphics in beta arent realistic enough so its not worth trying? Fuck out of here with that logic.
This looks like Immortal Gates of Pyre. Has the same looks almost. From all these 3 new RTS games that comes out Zerospace looks the best, but I don't like they go into the direction of making too complex, something I've seen all the units have an ability or some buildings having 2 roles, they are complicating it, in my opinion. But still it looks good. These other 2, Stormgate and Immortal Gates of Pyre, look cartoonish.
When you tried to put a collection point for workers on the air, but it didn't work out, the double collection point is to blame, like the Zerg in Starcraft. If you see resources and the collection point is on them - slaves go there, if resources are not visible or you click on the wrong resources, then troops and intelligence go there.
are the creeps final I wonder. seems really weird to be out killing things like chickens and goats. Although given the vanguard seems to have a huge thing with dogs maybe thats part of the games jokes? doesn't land with me tbh.
Hate to say this but gameplay and graphics looks completly soulless. Is this really the most modern rts 2023 made with unreal5? Why does it look like its 15 years old already? It's already in Beta stage and im afraid it's unfixable.
This game seems to be a warcraft 3 copy, honestly. . . not impressed. I still think SC2 looks and plays better. Of course, I am saying all this without being able to play the game, but I think I am preferring SC2, at this point.
1. Boring economy system. 2. Units do not stand out, i’m having really hard time to track down units in somewhat large army engagements especially with health bar on. The siegetank-like unit is too small and yet clunky and also looks really stupid. 3. Flying units are really boring to watch and play. To me, it feels like some air transporters from WC that are able to shoot. 4. The overall game feels more like Warcraft with Overwatch’s or Pokemon-like visual. I’ll wait STARCRAFT 3
I think the Ethereum mining/restoration system will bring some surprises. Also, notice how SC2's system was "boring" too and yet we needed 10 years and a fking neural network to tell us that oversaturating the mineral line was good despite diminishing returns.
i agree, def a darker more metallic type feel if that makes sense. there’s far too many cartoony looking games right now, bring back the grit of sc:bw.
Pig how focused are the Frost Giant developers on managing and preventing toxicity? Salt mining can be fun for people with iron will but i feel like toxicity could drive new to rts players away. Who would be a shame to lose with the games f2p accessibility.
Toxicity would drive "new to rts" players away? What. Are you telling me other multiplayer genres lack toxicity? RTS, in my experience, has been the least toxic genre so far. Rocket League, for example, has a lot more toxic playerbase overall than SC II, despite being a lot more "managed" in regards to toxicity. All there ever needs to be is an option to disable all chat for people who can't take it.
@Broformist im not trying to say it will turn away the masses. But you have to admit a friendly community is a good thing. The easier it is to convince friends to play the better If you've never played an RTS before stormgate, it looks like an amazing place to start. It would just suck if a lot of those players actually take the trash talk to heart and leave in their first few games. Their mechanics will be bad, which could help drive home the "go away, you suck, this isn't your game" thoughts, which toxic players spew constantly. Genre doesn't seem to matter much. It's just that RTS mechanics are a lot different and less natural than other games. (At least i find as a noob myself) I would like to see a "positive vibes" button like Deep Rock Galactics "Rock and Stone" emote. Which is an all-purpose. "Good job," "Welcome" etc emote
But that's also what makes more fights with cool set ups at one time viable. And more cool micro scerarios. I bet you that if you play it at your true mmr you won't think it feels slow ;)
Yeah, it's a real shame that they hard-coded the HP and DPS values. It would be cool if the game was in beta, and they could still alter basic unit values. Jesus christ. This community has some of the shittiest, most uninformed takes on games in development.
@@venusasaboy Unreal Engine in general is stuttery. Outside of Epic Games I think I never saw a studio that can make a buttery smooth game with Unrel Engine 4 and above. I hope the best but I am afraid this not going to change.
Im having a hard time not seeing this as a Warcraft/Starcraft-clone. It is so similar, that I would not be surprised if they get sued by Blizzard as a result of it =)
There nothing to sue for its not like they used there IP. :P Also from what i know the Studio is comprised of former Devs from Warcraft and Starcraft who specifly wanted to created something in that direction. :)
I always used the word "faction" as the word "race" doesn't make sense a lot of times. For example in Warcraft 3 you are playing as Orcs (which are a race), but Orcs are a combination of Orcs, Tauren and Trolls, which are all races on their own, so it doesn't really make sense to call them a race as one. Other example are Undead, that are not a race at all, they are just dead units re-animated. Nothing to do with something being offensive.
every RTS uses different words. AOE uses "civs" which I always liked, I think factions is just the most generic and since I've been playing a tonne of different RTS from OG dawn of war, company of heroes, AOE, Stormgate and Zerospace all on top of SC2 I've been moving to a general term that can be used across all games

Plan release game?!
I like you, PiG
When you tried to put a collection point for workers on the air, but it didn't work out, the double collection point is to blame, like the Zerg in Starcraft. If you see resources and the collection point is on them - slaves go there, if resources are not visible or you click on the wrong resources, then troops and intelligence go there.
I really hate that recurring noise I hope they get rid of it, at 10:00 for example.
I was thinking about the dunking sound of the main building.
Almost made me quit watching after just a few minutes.
Need some High Elves. ;-)
are the creeps final I wonder. seems really weird to be out killing things like chickens and goats. Although given the vanguard seems to have a huge thing with dogs maybe thats part of the games jokes? doesn't land with me tbh.
They are placeholders. But I can imagine that people will complain if they remove the chickens and in the end the chicken stay.
this game looks so bad in my opinion, i hoped for much more :(
You are not alone in this sentiment. Many true RTS fans feel the same way.
Hate to say this but gameplay and graphics looks completly soulless. Is this really the most modern rts 2023 made with unreal5? Why does it look like its 15 years old already? It's already in Beta stage and im afraid it's unfixable.
Man i hope they will fix graphics... It looks dry and unfinished
This game seems to be a warcraft 3 copy, honestly. . . not impressed. I still think SC2 looks and plays better. Of course, I am saying all this without being able to play the game, but I think I am preferring SC2, at this point.
"they whisper my fetishes to me"
Also, notice how SC2's system was "boring" too and yet we needed 10 years and a fking neural network to tell us that oversaturating the mineral line was good despite diminishing returns.
what do you mean starcraft 3? Blizzard aren't making a sequel.
What weird shit can Florenzio figure out in this game?? Thats the real question ay
Last I asked him on Twitch he had zero interest in this game.
Pretty uninspired looking game.
This game is like way overhyped and very disappointing. I wanted this to be good, but instead we get a mobile game rekeyed for PC.
Even zero space looked better
Infernals look a bit too cartoony and Warcrafty. I guess I would have rather preferred a more “cyber demon” look. We will see
i agree, def a darker more metallic type feel if that makes sense. there’s far too many cartoony looking games right now, bring back the grit of sc:bw.
Idk this game looks like more of the same. Just SC2... I am guessing they will add only 3 factions too.
Pig how focused are the Frost Giant developers on managing and preventing toxicity?
Salt mining can be fun for people with iron will but i feel like toxicity could drive new to rts players away.
Who would be a shame to lose with the games f2p accessibility.
disable the in game chat problem gone
Grow a pair
Problem solved
You can also ignore
Toxicity would drive "new to rts" players away? What. Are you telling me other multiplayer genres lack toxicity? RTS, in my experience, has been the least toxic genre so far. Rocket League, for example, has a lot more toxic playerbase overall than SC II, despite being a lot more "managed" in regards to toxicity.
All there ever needs to be is an option to disable all chat for people who can't take it.
They're f2p and aiming for mass appeal so I'm sure block/filter and report + ban features will be a priority
@Broformist im not trying to say it will turn away the masses.
But you have to admit a friendly community is a good thing.
The easier it is to convince friends to play the better
If you've never played an RTS before stormgate, it looks like an amazing place to start.
(At least i find as a noob myself)
I would like to see a "positive vibes" button like Deep Rock Galactics "Rock and Stone" emote. Which is an all-purpose. "Good job," "Welcome" etc emote
these fights take forever nothing dies until you hit it 50 times
But that's also what makes more fights with cool set ups at one time viable. And more cool micro scerarios.
I bet you that if you play it at your true mmr you won't think it feels slow ;)
Yeah, it's a real shame that they hard-coded the HP and DPS values. It would be cool if the game was in beta, and they could still alter basic unit values.
Jesus christ. This community has some of the shittiest, most uninformed takes on games in development.
Welcome to warcraft 3
Ever heard of Warcraft 3? XD
@@covetousrat not sure that's a good thing :)
They REALLY need to work on the sound effects while seleticing things. They’re so annoying
😮
Looks warcraft
Is the game that stuttery ?
It's even more stuttery for me but it's in beta so they're still ironing out networking kinks/the rollback thing
@@venusasaboy Unreal Engine in general is stuttery. Outside of Epic Games I think I never saw a studio that can make a buttery smooth game with Unrel Engine 4 and above. I don't understand why studios pick it when it is ruining the expereince. If this potato graphics game stuttering on a modern system than good luck. I hope the best but I am afraid this not going to change.
It was smooth in previous playtests but looks like the beta servers are struggling atm
So it's basically SC2+WC3 but with visuals worse than Dota
Am I blind or does this looks more like Warcraft than Starcraft? btw. I don't like cartoony art style. Looks like LoL if it tried to be RTS.
Im having a hard time not seeing this as a Warcraft/Starcraft-clone. It is so similar, that I would not be surprised if they get sued by Blizzard as a result of it =)
There nothing to sue for its not like they used there IP. :P
Also from what i know the Studio is comprised of former Devs from Warcraft and Starcraft who specifly wanted to created something in that direction. :)
@@TheRozenKnight i know. It was a joke, vasee4on how similar it is.
@@waggerdagger2831 Ah sorry my bad. :)
This game pooo pooo
what a stupid looking game. reminds me of fortnite childish game. oh yeah, "it's not done yet, still in beta". who cares.
This game looks more warcraft than starcraft and thats not a good thing to me.
The pace is too slow.
Sc2 is much more fun to play and to watch.
Why does the tiktok bang sound happen all the time, that really needs to be something less annoying...
No me gustó, no le llega ni a los talones a starkraf 2 ☝🏼😕
this game will be dead within 5 years of launch
So is 'faction' the new term for 'race' because saying 'race' is racist or something?
The game kinda sucks.
