    That's really a terror of a attach, literally unplayable & not easy to handle.
    Immense delight to see the WI battering the Aussies in their own backyard, was a pleasure to see ribs & shins of the Aussie batsmen being literally damaged.
    Salute the WI team 👌👌👌

    Sunil Gavaskar scored 2749 runs against the west Indies from 1971 to 1987..how many batsmen can match that....no doubt he was the greatest of his time...

      Part of that happened when Roberts, Holding, Garner and Croft were part of Packer cricket and so were banned from international cricket.

    This is a great clip. It shows the unremitting pressure these great West indian bowlers exerted all the time. It is very much how I remembered watching this at the time. Constant pressure. There was never any easy runs to be made. I am also glad that you showed Andy Roberts. With the passage of time he is very unappreciated, however I thought he was the leader of the attack in the late 70's early 80's.
    Having just watched the Ashes I have no doubt that both sides would have been shredded by this attack. For me this attack remains the benchmark whereby I judge all other teams and particularly batsmen.
    Thanks very much for posting.

      Andy Roberts was very much the leader of the pack in the 70's. Holding said that he learned a lot about fast bowling from Andy Roberts.

    Regardless of who batted against this pace attack, every one of them is a hero because all they had was a coconut shell-like helmet and none of the sophisticated protective gear like what we have today.

    • @hadtrt3456
      @hadtrt3456 Рік тому +5

      Exactly. The quartet was established after the 1976 tour of Australia. Gavaskar made 6 centuries against West Indies from then until his retirement in the mid 1980s. He was a great batsman but let’s stick to the facts

    • @kottusekhar9237
      @kottusekhar9237 Рік тому +7

      Gavaskar' first four centuries in West Indies were scored against medium pacers and Sobers. It was only in 1976 he hit two tons against Holding and Roberts. By then Holding was still evolving into a full fledged pacer. Again in 1978-79 he made a few centuries against debutant Marshall and the likes of Holder. In 1983 his record against the famed pace battery was not at all impressive. Back home in 1983 he did perform well with the highest ever score by an Indian in his kitty. But then it was on home grown pitches. However all this is not to deny the greatness of Gavaskar. But simply harping on the fact that he scored 13 centuries against the Windies without analysis hardly makes any sense.

      No Most centuries of Gavaskar were when these deadly quartet was absent. Packer etc. even in 1984 he made inconsequential centuries on dead pitches. His real good knock was 90 against Wi in Ahmedabad on lively pitch. Infact his 236 in Chennai was rain affected inconsequential one inning fully rain spoilt match at position 4 batting order.

    The West Indian batters were counting their lucky stars for not having to face their own attack or their batting averages would have been chopped by 5 to 10 runs. Even Viv was regularly brushed aside when facing Holding or Clarke in county cricket and was uncomfortable facing the latter without a helmet .

    • @kunalsingh3121

      Viv had hardly a point to prove in FC against anyone of them..

    Gavasker never faced the fearsome bowling of Roberts, Holding, Garner and Croft all at the same time never ever. Check out the record and he has been very lucky to avoid the troublesome original foursome. He has taken 13 centuries of the weaker combination, but mind it he was a great batsman no doubt at all.
