Actually there is a difference. Salamander larvae and Axolotls look very similar. Except for the number of toes on each specie. A salamander larvae most of the time with grow into an adult and look like a normal salamander. Although sometimes the larvae don’t fully grow and stay as a larvae. Axolotls will always stay as an Axolotl and never change.
Not really... did you see how many mistakes he made in that video alone? He even admitted he had never seen one in person... should've been more knowledgeable with more in person experience before just diving into getting a brand new pet (bearing in mind he hasn't ever had one so that makes it worse). If I were to get one (which I won't) I would make sure I know *EVERYTHING* you can even know and have everything setup before hand.
Axolotls shouldnt have light, unless its for a very short ammount of time for photos or something, but axolotls have no eyelids so the light hurts their eyes. Please, please dont keep it with the lights on :)
Make sure when feeding off of tongs or above substrate to avoid impaction (yes the exact same thing as in reptiles) I've kept them on sand you just need to take a few extra precautions (edit) if possible I would add a sponge over the output because axolotls need as little flow as possible
Allen J sand is completely fine for axolotls. They pass it very easily. It's only trouble when people keep them on gravel or small rocks. Axolotls use a sort of vacuum tactic to get their food in their mouth, sucking everything thing in front of them.
Axolotls are so cute!!! I'm not super into amphibians and reptiles (that's why I live vicariously through you) but I would totally be interested in keeping an axolotl!
I love axolotls! You’ll have so much fun with your new one. Some quick points to help reduce any stress that might come: Have an ammonia testing kit! Your water should be cycled to Ammonia and Nitrite below 0.5ppm and Nitrate under 40ppm. This needs to be tested EVERYDAY because an axolotls skin/mucus layer is so sensitive and can easily get ammonia burns. Also reduce the water flow to basically nothing. Axolotls are very weak creatures and any water flow causes them stress as they need to push harder to move. I suggest following Axolotl-Aholics on Facebook. They have files for everything you need to take care of an axolotl as well as files for if your new baby is sick. Congrats and I hope you take these notes into consideration! 😊
i found your channel by accident and now i'm obsessed. you've got great editing! i don't know how to describe it but i guess it's got a more modern vibe to it? as in instead of it just being functional like cut to this and now that, it's got an actual feel of your style down. which tbh isn't common to find in reptile channels or animal channels in general. anyways, love your videos + hope you have a good day

Those "Canadian night crawlers" are literally my childhood... my brother and I used to dig for them when we were little! But I didn't know they were only in Canada 😂
With the dwarf anubias, you'll want to make sure the rhizome--the horizontal stem bit--isn't buried under the sand, just the root parts spreading out underneath it, or it will eventually die.
Hey I’m new i got here from Sahel and as soon as she said reptiles I ran over here I’m in love with reptiles and been catching lizards and other lil creatures! I subbed
You managed to find the Co-Op. You've managed to find one of the best places out there for fish anything. Pretty big on UA-cam, so there is a plethora of info for you to digest on Cory's channel. Specifically watch their filtration video and plant care video. Both can be found in a detailed live stream format.
I haven’t kept an axolotl before but I have done a lot of research. If you haven’t heard already, they don’t like bright lights, so limit the photoperiod to just what the plants need to survive. Also on the plants, since sand has no nutritional value, you should try root tabs to fertilize them so they can still grow.
That's a beautiful lotl indeed! And a good set up too. Only thing I'd get rid of is the sand though since there is a risk of impaction with these guys. Also the flow of the filter can stress axolotls out so I would put a sponge on the output. One last thing keep an eye out for water temp especially with you having so many heat sources in that room. Axolotls do need faily cool water. Good luck! I wish you the best with your new little bud!
Thanks! I ended up fitting a second filter cartridge thing into the slot where the water dumps out and it decreased the flow quite a bit. I'm getting the temps to sit at around 70 degrees with frozen water bottles but it looks like I'll need something more efficient since the weather's starting to warm up in order to get it down to 60s consistently
Your mom is just like mine lol. I own a leopard gecko, a hamster, and poison dart frog. She is afraid and grossed out of them all but still lets me keep them because she knows I love them. I’m planning on getting an axolotl, that is why I have been researching and watching videos to be able to provide it with a decent life and setup.
I recommend for getting a sponge filter because it does lessen movement in the water and when you have movement in the water It can really stressed out your axolotl
I'm so jelly! My own axolotl acquisition project has dragged on for two months now. But I think I've finally got everything together and I'm hopefully going to pick it up this weekend if the water sample is OK. I'm getting a GFP albino or leucistic 'cos I like fancy critters :)
Your baby is very small! Might help to get a lizard feeding bowl and put the worm in when it comes to check it out :) that way it won't eat sand. I have two myself! ♡ love em
Hey pro tip: don’t be afraid to hand feed your axolotl. It might be a little startling at first, but it’s kinda funny once your axolotl recognizes your hand as dog and will follow your around the tank. Also frozen bloodworm cubes are the most convenient for feeding and I usually just plop them in the water and barely let them thaw before feeding so they don’t go everywhere in the tank and he axolotl can just eat it whole. Good luck
Congratulations!! He is so precious 😍 Can't wait for more videos!! Next week I am getting a leopard gecko and I am so excited! I would love to have an axolotl as well! But they are illegal in Norway :/
LOL my mom is the same way but worse when I got my vinegaroon x'D My mom was like "That's... why did you get this? It's disgusting. Feed it to the gecko."
That ending, lol Damn I love this channel. I think I will have a room that looks similar to this. For now I have zero reptiles/amphibians, but I have a feeling that it will change in the near future. I feel like I've been missing out, because lizards and snakes can make such brilliant pets. I wish I had realised this earlier, I'd be more knowledgeable about them and possibly ready to actually get some. My first reptile is probably going to be a blue tongue skink. I'm planning on getting one from a reptile convention, because there doesn't seem to be any breeders in my country. In fact there's probably like one small convention every year in my country, so I will have to travel abroad to get a skink. It's okay with me, as long as I can safely get the animal into it's new home.
Axolotls are so derpy and cute
I love that *BaBY SalaMander* written on it
Da Dragon Durp I see you everywhere dude lol
Da Dragon Durp it's an axolotl
Well it's not wrong. I think they're technically Salamanders and it isn't nearly its full size.
Actually there is a difference. Salamander larvae and Axolotls look very similar. Except for the number of toes on each specie. A salamander larvae most of the time with grow into an adult and look like a normal salamander. Although sometimes the larvae don’t fully grow and stay as a larvae. They probably wrote baby salamander because axolotls are not common and the carriers might not know what it is
Loved the bit at the end with your mom, cracked me up.
YES AN AXOLOTL! it was only a matter of time.....
The Turtle Girl omg you’re here as well lol!
I love your vids
And here you can see Alex delving deeper into the obsession of herps XD

He needs the lights for the plants

OMG!!!! The Axolotl is soooo cute. When it is introuduced to its habitat it looks like it's smiling.

How have you not seen an axolotl in person??? They are everywhere!
“Emily you wanna see something gross?!”
“No.” What a mood
Awww, I love your sweet axolotl. And yay for getting live plants from Aquarium Co-Op; hope your axie loves them too. :)
Just wanted to say I love your content. Your channel is just so wholesome and always makes me smile :)
Sweet that you ordered from Aquarium Co-op! Cory is the best! The lemon smelling one was probably bacopa.
Great video! I’m actually getting an axolotl soon too and I’m glad to see that a lot of the things you got for the tank are what I got too 😄
WHAT. ALEX UPLOADED BEFORE MIDNIGHT?! wow. shook.
Edit: “name it gross-o” -Mrs. G 2k18
You're SO HAPPY! I love this video. Your joy and excitement is so all over this video! hahaha! I love my axolotl!

Sweet setup Alex! I’ve always wanted lotls. Setting up my Paludarium right now!!
Great video, wonderful info
So glad he arrived safely!
I LOVE AMBER. I'm glad everything went well!
He seemed ready to eat! When I get goldfish shipped to me they need a few days to destress before they eat lol. He’s a super cutie! 😍
I love how he just dives in like "idk what I'm doing but this is fun so yay I guess"
“Look how it does it’s legs” lmao 😂

Awesome looking setup! Love the face it's making at the end... almost looks like he's smiling :)

Always wanted to see one in the wild. Cool animals. Axolotl, that'd be a good name for a band.

Omg I love your mom! She's hilarious! You should have her in your videos more lol
My parents said that same thing when I got mine 🤣 I’ve had my axolotl for a little over a year now, love her to death!!!

Elizabeth Ann lights are not a problem as long as many hides are provided.

I love wild type axolotls!! I have a leucistic and she’s great!!
Supportive parents are the key to everything.
Yessss. I've kinda wanted an axolotl for a while but you can't really handle them so I still like BPs better.
And, y'know, they're illegal, but that's less important.
So cute!
Welcome to my world 👍 so pleased for you.
Your mum made me 😂 LOL
Keep going with the Axolotl vids ✨
He’s precious!! Great video Alex you should name him Mudkip bc that Pokémon was based off of axolotls
Your baby is very small! Might help to get a lizard feeding bowl and put the worm in when it comes to check it out :) that way it won't eat sand. I have two myself! ♡ love em
He's so cute!

Wow! A really cool animal!

Awesome creature! Keep the content up!
omg the end made my day :)
I would try to get a lid on that aquarium if you can. Axolotls have been known to jump out!
(Unless you do have a lid and I’m just blind and missed it in which case just ignore me oops)
