The first tip is so true because my mom met some Korean people at her job and told them about me and they said they’ll teach/help me! So yeah telling people is important, you might get some connections
I really need to implement these tips. I've been trying to learn Korean for a while, but can't speak at all, and have so much anxiety surrounding it. I keep giving up because of it and then restarting because I love the language. But I never make any progress.
one thing that keeps me motivated is your hilarious banter with the other ttmik teachers on the audio clips in the grammar courses. so endearing and makes learning korean far less clinical and more like a friendly conversation.
Totally agree. That's how I do it: listen, speak and write (also read what I wrote, out loud). Working with these three senses makes it easier to memorize. Thank you for the tips! Btw: beautiful view!
Welcome back!! I really enjoyed watching this video, and I'd like to genuinely thank you for sharing good tips from your own experiences. I'm studying English watching EBSe 생활영어 these days. It is super useful and also a lot of fun of course. And even the TTMIK videos you uploaded about Korean help me learn and realize about just language itself including both Korean and English. I hope to see you a lot more in many ways on UA-cam.
Please, every time you do a video, include the Korean subtitle as well. It’s so helpful to see how to put sentences together! My weakness is writing because for me ㅔ and ㅐ, ㅓ and ㅗ sounds the same. After listening to it I usually guess how to write it down
ㅐand ㅔ used to be different, but now, the last few generations say/hear them the same. ㅗ is with rounded lips like the o in ‘or’ (in American English) or like ‘all’ (in British English) but ㅓ is like ‘aw’ (in American English) or the o in ‘hot’ (in British English). I have to say, the British English words have a closer pronunciation but I tried to find the closest sounds in American English as well.
I'm a big fan of you. I started studying English watching your EBS program. Good to see you again. I usually speak English that I learned or watched on UA-cam alone while driving. Then, I remember the words in spite of myself next time. Thank you for your good tip.

That second tip I so need to follow!! I ran into an old Korean neighbor a while back and I would have loved to practice my very limited Korean but I couldn't speak anything! I could write it but I couldn't say it... It was unfortunate. Next time I bump into my old neighbor I will be ready! Thanks Hyunwoo for sharing your learning experiences with us ^^
You go to work at dawn! I initially thought you’re shooting this at sunset but then you said “it’s really bright now”. 😳 Anyway, 정말 감사합니다 for all your hard work. I’m about to finish TTMIK level 2 this week. 😅
That’s true Hyun Woo! My mother tongue is Cebuano (a dialect in the Philippines) but I was given a good tip by a late uncle: To memorize or to practice English is to READ IT OUT LOUD! I usually study at my own home office, I can concentrate more especially when I’m just by myself! I am applying the same principles in my Korean language learning journey.
Brilliant tips! As for currently learning Korean, I keep a whole studygram and I speak via WhatsApp with my friend from South. Korea. She properly makes sure that I speak Korean out loud and if I make a mistake she’ll ask me to repeat. She was actually the person who told me I shouldn’t be scared of learning a language in public or worried of what people will think. So I don’t now, I enjoy learning and do it. I get asked me a lot of people “why are you learning it?” to which I just answer “I enjoy languages and cultures”
Thank you for the tips, i've been studying Korean for almost two months now and it really helps to tell people that you are learning, my friends are always asking me about the new things i've learned, so i can't give up. The second tip would've helped me a lot when i was learning English here in Brazil, i got stuck in the intermediated level for a whole year cause i was afraid of speaking and only now i know it was because i wasn't practicing my speaking skills enough.

I will definetely use this tips. I made a Korean friend who's learning English and I sent him this video, too. It is pretty useful since you also added korean subtitles :) Thank you so much for your hardwork!
Very useful 팁 !! I like to play the "시장에 가면" 게임 by myself out loud, people think I'm crazy, but its funny and a good way to learn some nouns.
It's very simple !! You start singing "wenn i go to the market there is .." at this poit you have to add a noun, whatever you like, than you sing it again and add another noun, and it goes like that: 시장에 가면 김치도 있고 시장에 가면 김치도 있고 시과도 있고 시장에 가면 김치도 있고 사과도 있고 사람도 있고 and its goes until you miss some, when this happends .. starts again ! Hahaha Sorry for the long post! 🙃
@@arthurschuttenberg7243 It's a wonderful drinking game for language learners. When you miss a grocery item off the list you have to drink and the turn goes to the next person. The booze lowers inhibitions so everyone speaks the new language more freely (to an extent). I learned this while studying Korean in Busan. The 한국인 students at the 학원 taught us many drinking games and this was my favourite.
Ohh welcome back Hyunwoo! These are great tips and also I was so excited to see the library photo because it’s the State Library where I live! Melbourne!
I totally agree. My husband and I read out loud the entire Harry Potter series and I'm sure it helped us tremendously. Your first instinct is to think it will be useless because you don't don't how to prononce half these words but you really need to do it to get better.
You've chosen a wonderful location, actually, and I couldn't get my eyes off your lovely jamper :) The pieces of advice are great, thank you! As many people notice, you're the inspiration itself :) Thanks again for the video!
Can I share one more tips for Korean learners? Don't use romanization much when learning Korean! (You can use just to refer tho) you have to get your korean as Korean and there's so much romanization that cannot describe Korean! So rather to focus on romanization, please focus on Korean sounds and practice outloud! My several foreign friends who are good at Korean agreed this tip so I hope it could help for all of you as well! Thanks :)
Your 2 tips are really important to learn a language. The second one is the least used tip but the most important one. To speak in english I studied years and years with really slow progress because I didn't use it. Now I will use it to learn korean. My boyfriend speaks 4 languages fluently and when he listens a movie he repeats a lot of actress sentences to have the right accent. It's really usefull!
Wow t these are sooo great tips! Especially speaking outloud! I totally agree we should speak outloud when learning some language! Thanks for making this video and I will remind myself and keep that in mind to practice english!
I like to share Korean words I've learned with the children at the daycare where I work. But it's especially fun to say something in Korean to my boss. 😜😆😂. Congrats on that new baby, by the way.
I’m reading out loud everyday esp the iyagi episodes and it has really helped improved my pronunciation! To the point when I went to Korea last months they said to me 한국어 잘 compliments like this really made the whole trip so much more enjoyable thanks ttmik team ^^
I'm late but congratulation of your baby boy 💚💜 And thank you for the tips. I always got shy whenever I tell other ppl that I learn korean, but your tips encourge me to do so. I hope I got better soon. Please drive safely.
I can talk quite well as long as I'm reading something that is already written. I struggle with recall though. Like I could barely say anything more than the most basic of sentences if I were to try and speak on my own without reading anything. That's my goal for 2019!!!!!
Most people don't know I speak Korean.. and its been 5 years since I started lol. but I've ended up talking to my Korean friends online more than my friends in real life..especially since I can bug them really late at night (my time) if I want to

Does TTIMK have videos where a conversation in Korean is followed by subtitles in Korean? I find it easier to memorize certain words if I compare read and written text, and thus I can speed up my Hangeul reading. It's still slow for now, as the eye and brain have to recognize which letters are joined together in a block.
@@HyunwooSun Thank you- I'll go look. So far, I have managed to recognize verbs well, because there usually are a few common ones that appear often in the lessons contained in the book I have. New words usually cause me to be stuck reading block by block...
I totally agree with the second tip. Thank you for reminding me! Although I have succeeded in speaking fluent English, it takes me almost 10 years to reach the current level. From 10-20. I really want to shorten my Korean learning progress and speak good Korean as soon as possible. BTW, when did you got up😂 It’s so early!

i learn english all by myself and i notices that the thing that help progress the most was playing a mmo game , i found that very useful and fun at the same time, sadly i dont know enough to play a korean mmo :c
I think the second tip is a little off. Spoken language and written language ARE two different skills and must be learned and practiced differently too. The exception being texting and sns (these are the only writing that mimics spoken language).
burnummaster You have a point there too! To a certain degree they can be different, but many people spend too much time just with text without moving their mouths and when they have to speak the language, they struggle to say things that they would be able to write down.
@@HyunwooSun Yeah I do think that's a good to increase the way and the speed their brain and body can produce and process the target language! Also thanks for the reply! I love your guys' website

Great video and tips as usual but please do not do it while driving. It is very risky. I was little scared while watching this video. Drive safe and have a great day!
Thanks!! It's actually the same as talking to someone in the passenger seat :)
