This is extremely helpful! I was actually overwhelmed by the interface of VS code and so many extensions when I first got in touch with it, this video helped me a lot!
Yes, indeed, I was overwhelmed too, and I abandoned the learning. I stuck with the IDE provided by Python. But, having seen this excellent presentation, I feel that I can continue the quest.
@TomDoesTech…. Pls I would need ur assistance in advancing my programming knowledge to become a full stack developer…. Pls if you don’t mind. Reply to this comment pls
I just started using VS Code because I'm trying to learn python and every other IDE was overly complex, including Apple's XCode and open source Eclipse, which won't run on my really old Mac anymore. Oh my gosh, I love VS Code. For Python at least. Haven't tried it for Java yet (and I haven't written a C++ program in 20 years.)
I opened your video from VS code so watched it there. Came here to give you thumbs up for such elegance and simplicity. Here I begin my coding journey, wish me luck :)
While I love the idea of this video, my screens did not look like your by default. I did have the explorer and activity and status bar as described, but by default, I did not have the panel with Ouput, Debug Problems and Terminal. When I hit F5 on the jsSample.js file, it did not run in the debug console as expected, instead it comes up with a Welcome tabbed window with Get Started with VS Code. So either this video needs some updating to a current version or the presenter has extensions installed that are not present in a new installation.
Thank you!! Incredibly helpful and, as others have said, I was overwhelmed by VS, too, and my tutors never explained it, just expected me to work with it. So this helps a ton!
Your short tutorial was really helpful. 🙂 I just started using Visual Studio and would like to know how to see a live CSS preview as code is being done. I appreciate your insights.
welp i dont understand any of it and at 2:21 min how did he make it double plus the lines sorry but i am new to coding like this is my very first day....
Hello, okay? My name is Fernandes, I’m from Brazil and I’m starting my journey as a Frontend developer. Congratulations for the video, this video helped me a lot. Thank you!
Excellent explainers and introduction. I will watch a series of videos simply because he's the teacher. I'm headed to the channel to see if he has playlists so I can circle back and learn from his clear teaching style. Very well done....
Thank you! I've been using open source solutions for years, and while they are still great, they are very old-school and I have to start learning to use Visual Studio and VSC for my work and it's a real paradigm shift compared to the IDEs of old.
I love it!!!! my first session programming, i'm a musician and architect, i didn't know anything about Javascript!!!, Excellent Tutorial, thank you very much
You should use light theme on your tutorials. Some of us are using smaller screens to watch your videos. Dark screens do not display as clearly as light themes do. A large computer monitor may (in fact it does) display dark theme better than small ones do. Besides, the brightness of a large monitor can be adjusted if it is too bright.
It asks me to choose a debugger and i have no idea what to do.. I installed some extension but now i cant figure out how to choose that extension. Did you figure out what to do?
I installed JavaScript Debugger (Nightly). There's also JavaScript Debugger v1.92.0. After that I pressed F5 and then selected Node.js in the search at the top. All is well.
Thank you so much for this!!! I’ve been trying to do this on my Mac but the instructor showed us on a PC and it was causing so many problems for me to translate.
OMG, first time user... thank you soo much for this. you just blew my mind in 7 minutes.:-)... i mean holy crap!!!!!!!...I am a grateful subrcriber from here on.
I love the web preview extension. I've been using VS code for some weeks now, and I've always used alt + shift + b for web previews. I'm saved now, thank you for the concise yet super helpful video.
One issue with this tutorial: Don't encourage newbies to use the play button! This button depends on having the proper environment installed (node, python). Newbies will see cryptic errors when it doesn't work and will complain that "VSCode doesn't run their code", which is a bad statement since VSCode doesn't run code in the first place. A tutorial should show them to run it via the command-line first so you can confirm that the environment is setup properly first. And then show the play button. Another tip: you can easily hide parts of VSCode's interface! For example, in the explorer view, everything except "Folders" is useless, so showing how to disable these useless parts can be really helpful.
Thanks heaps man im coming from sublime and Kate and this seemed really messy compared to those IDEs now it seems super clear, easy and really fun to use
