Stellantis are certainly knocking the money off their BEV's! One could ask, why have such unrealistic RRPs in the first place?

Going on how few 74 plate cars I’ve seen in the last 2 weeks things must be really tough for car dealerships here in Central Scotland. Since 1st September I’ve seen 1 new plate lorry and 1 74 plate Nissan 4x4 that’s it.

There are plenty of electric cars - even owned by UA-camrs - which are still perfectly serviceable at 10 years old......

Great research. I imagine the MG4 X-Power is cheap because it's difficult to insure at a sensible price?
Weirdly the lower power RWD one is actually a more fun thing to drive, the power is insane however.

Hendy MG is my local dealer, that Grey X Power is old, it was a showroom car i saw about 8 months ago, it has been for sale for ages and slowly come down from 30k to where it is now.

Jim have I got this right?:
That a dealer has to allow you to keep the deposit contribution if you cancel the PCP within the 14 days COP.
Also:
I'm being offered a PCP at 2.3%. my investment opportunity is 5.8%. if that 5.8% reduces below 3%, I would rather use my investment to pay off the car. If that is say a year down the road, would I be able to pay it off or is it all down to the wording which I haven't got yet!
You’d need to check the agreement but generally you have 14 days to do what you like. As for the rest of it you’d need to consult with the finance provider.
After the 14 day cooling off you are locked in until half the payments have been made. It will be in the terms but you have a chance to send it back / pay it off.

Dropping the ICE 500 for the EV 500 was the final nail in the coffin for Fiat in the USA. There's been a big cull of Fiat dealers in the UK.
22 thousands pounds for a 1.0 Seat Ibiza (who gives a dam if it’s FR spec) discounted to 17k is as clear an example as you could get that the new car market is a total & utter scam based on the good old trusty DFS sofa tactics of the last 20 years, RRP of complete insanity discounted to make it look like a good deal when it’s still over priced for what it is.
Not a dig at you for making people aware obviously but some of these “good value deals” really are questionable

These are all cars that basically the dealers want to get shot off. Probably been in stock too long.

The reality now is that it’s whenever a good deal appears. Trying to second guess the market is a bit of a mugs game now to be fair as the deals just appear at random. Last November/December was very good for EV deals and could be the same again this year but nobody really knows.

private buyers are not buying EV's so dealers not meeting government targets so price reduction to encourage sales, but residual values are appalling, my EV is now a year old, list price £33000, but private sale price £13500 to £15000, in fact there is one on autotrader same month and year as mine, 73 reg 2500 miles for £15490, mine is a lease car so who takes the hit

I bought July 2023. The conditions at the time were a lot different. Today I’d definitely be taking a lease especially for an EV where things are rapidly developing. Jim has a post on a case study comparing the costs. Buyers are shifting to leasing inc salary sacrifice deals so the people going to a showroom to buy is diminishing. Interesting times.
Shame there is so much negativity there are some great deals on second hand EVs which are barely run in. If you want to keep your leased car a lot will cut you a deal. Some case studies on that are available on You Tube as well.
@@DefinitelyNotAGuruprobably part of the depreciation spiral because the lease companies aren’t paying list price. Amazing if you can save that on a 1 yr old car. If it lost the same in year two it’s down to £3k. Bet they’d shift loads at that price😂

New EV sales met the 22% target in August. You can argue all you like, the SMMT figures prove you are mistaken.....

It seems the RRP is now becoming meaningless - Can you imagine what the depreciation will be on these over the next 2-3 years
That’s why I say “lease new, buy used “ about every 15 mins
If you *lease* then any depreciation becomes the leasing company's problem, not yours..... With any cars, you *lease* when new, but only *buy* used at 2 to 3 years old, once the bulk of the depreciation has occurred.... You'll find ICE cars also suffer from quite heavy depreciation, especially some French or Italian cars. Even a new VW Golf Mk8 1.5 Tsi will only be worth 48% of it's new cost after 3 years/36k miles. That said, if you negotiated a discount of £5k plus on a new car, then you can't possibly lose that, because it wasn't there to begin with.
I think dealers are inflating the original retail prices to make the discounts look good because of stocks of cars piling up
