The overall reception to this movie has always baffled me. It is a masterpiece, the cream of the crop of 2000s films with There Will Be Blood and No Country for Old Men but has never gotten the praise that many movies of the era have garnered. It was a really wonderful decade of film, with tons of classic movies like O Brother Where are Thou and Shaun of the Dead emerging, but I've always felt like Children of Men is underappreciated.

This is a top 10 movie for me - the vision and execution are pretty much flawless. In terms of the personal and societal changes one would expect, this may be one of the most realistically depicted "sci-fi" settings I know. And the movie never fails to deliver an emotional experience.
The soundtrack (and related cultural symbolism) is absolutely fire, too.

such a powerful movie! great reaction! I always loved how Theo's character developed throughout the movie. At the start he was cynical and aimless.. but as the movie went on he became more of a protector and less selfish. But he was a peaceful protector. He never once used a gun.. and he remained steady and resourceful even in the midst of chaos. Ultimately he gave his life for them and accepted it without any regret (even helping her with the baby as he was breathing his last breaths). he's the definition of the "warrior in the garden"

And then, like we always have done and always will do, we continue to shoot and bomb and destroy because we know nothing else.

One of my favorite movies. The extreme long takes makes it look more authentic. For example, for the rotating camera inside the car they developed a special camera. Children of Men is a cinematic masterpiece. It was way ahead of its time, and that’s genuinely the only reason I can find to rationalize why it wasn’t recognized in the way it deserved at the time. People at large were not ready. This movie will be a common topic of study in university classes and film schools within the next 10 years and onwards.

In any other war, Women/Children are considered "Collateral Damage"--Not this time. The way both sides stopped fighting when they saw/heard the baby was touching. And I so hate Theo didn't make it..After all, he was just a reporter looking for a story, and wound up being a true hero who quite possibly saved the human race from extinction. One of top 100 ranked sci-fi films of all time, and rightfully so.

The total opposite is true. It's men who are disposable in society, that's why women aren't conscripted to fight on the front lines in Ukraine but young men with Down's Syndrome are. That'a why Boko Haram ki||ed thousands of schoolboys in Nigeria but when they kidnapped a few dozen schoolgirls the whole world turned their attention and it became an international issue

This is a beautiful art piece with a number of profound messages poetically woven throughout. It is also ground breaking in the long, uncut scenes that draw us in as if we are part of the story. Every time I watch this film, I find something new. There is a really nice ‘making of’ about this that explains the very deep meanings throughout, intended by the filmmakers. Many professional people from different subjects collaborated on this. It also shows the incredible coordination in actors, extras and stunt performers to create the longer ‘one shot’ scenes.
I am glad you liked this film. 💕

A good dystopian movie you may like is Equilibrium(2002) starring Christian Bale who played Batman in the Dark Knight movies. The premise is that emotion is the reason the world went to nuclear war so emotion was outlawed and twice a day everyone was required to take equilibrium (a drug) to suppress emotion. Christian Bale was a cleric who hunted down those who refused to take the pill. His acting and story arc is amazing. I was a fan of his before the Batman movies.

It is a dystopian film, but it's also kind of a fable... the story of a child's birth bringing hope to the world technically makes this a Christmas movie (I joke, but I'm also serious). On a human level the birth of a child is presented as something even soldiers mid-battle see as sacred and holy, causing them to stop fighting and look on in wonder. Then, the way the ship appears at the end is kind of mystical - it just appears out of nowhere at the perfect moment - so I think the film encourages us to not be too rational or cynical about What Happens Next. Hope has returned to the world, that's where the story ends, and where the story wants us to go next in our heads.

That said, this channel is the premier channel having this movie on to react to! I'm good now actually in not asking around for it so intently. I'm good since it's on here! Another Clive Owen and baby movie is "Shoot 'Em Up" with Paul Giamatti and Monica Bellucci. This movie, Children of Men, was great for a lot of reasons. Innovative plot, some new camera/direction techniques that worked. And the people feel like people. That is one of the things, I think, that make the movie work, because you end up feeling for the core group. That is why you are sad when Julian gets shot, and also why you feel it when everyone lets the baby through. They are not monsters in uniform anymore, they are people trying to save the only baby on the planet! There is a single shot scene where Theo is going from spot to spot during the military shootout that served as an inspiration for Game of Thrones (S6E9: Battle of the Bastards). Miguel Sapochnik credits this movie for a scene during that episode. I also wonder if The Book of Eli drew inspiration from this! Both protagonists have essentially the same fate, and both stories are essentially concluded after rowing in a boat to save something! I hope your day got better and I hope all your days get better!

This is the movie that an entire generation either haven’t seen, or *have* and pretend that The Last Of Us is a completely original masterpiece that *in no way* borrows from Children Of Men with its: Apocalyptic/dystopian setting, corrupt ultra-authoritarian government developing to maintain order in a chaotic world, grieving father to a dead child protagonist, protagonist’s pre-existing affiliation to a female leading member of an animal-themed terrorist group, a young girl that may be the key to saving humanity as she is seemingly unaffected by that which caused the collapse of civilisation, the protagonist going on a journey to deliver the girl to a group that should be able to use her to find “the cure”, the terrorist group that are earlier portrayed as “good guys” (at least compared to the fascist government) turn out to *also* be murderers, and a finale where the protagonist *somehow* makes it through an exceptionally life-threatening gauntlet to save the girl from certain death. The Last Of Us is over-rated, especially after “Part 2”, the TV show is a worse version of the video game it’s based on, and neither of them hold a candle to this film which they stole the premise/characters/plot from.

Greetings, I am a fan of your channel, could you react to the movie King Arthur starring Clive Owen, the story is exciting about warriors as brave as the knights of Rome who lived and died with honor and greatness

Perfect reaction to this horrible, beautiful movie. Those long, long scenes must have been difficult to film. The choreography! Anyway, thanks for this.

What a great movie! Very accurate (imho) as to how things might really turn out in future. There’s two things that are the wrong way around though. Firstly, it won’t 2027 but *2072* and secondly, it’s not women who are infertile…it’s *men* . The coming population collapse will have more than one cause. Just saying.
