Absolutely fascinating. Excellent music. This is the distillation of film noir. Double Indemnity, Sunset Boulevard, DOA all draw upon the drama of these streets, but these outtakes deliver the raw 'grounds" from which these (by comparison slightly milder) episodes were brewed.
Fantastic footage. Great choice of music. Well done! Very interesting dual-gauge track used by the streetcar system -- I wasn't aware of the dual gauge until now!
I know as soon as I click on the video that I can go ahead and hit like before even watching. Always great footage and great music. This is all before my time, but I love the film noir type movies, and life. It would have been awesome to live in that time. Thanks for sharing.
Was driving around new haven connecticut last night listening to music just like this. I wonder if there are any videos like this one filmed in new haven, just driving around and seeing the sights of the town at the time before giant highways and hideous buildings ruined the city.
At 6:11 the Eagle Hotel sign comes into view. Their address was 103 North Los Angeles St. according to an article about Little Tokyo Hotel fire traps on page 6 in the April 23, 1947 "Eastside Journal".
Great find. "Canadian Pacific" @ 3:11 was released in May of 1949. Interestingly, the other film, "The Counterfeiters" was released the year previously. I'm guessing it's a re-release or serving as a filler for a double feature.

The LA City Streetcars were on 3'6" track, and the Pacific Electric on standard gauge, 4'8.5".

Every building on that theater row had a beautiful neon sign.

Not even the comforting warmth of Miles’ muted trumpet can dispel the chill and foreboding of these dark streets.
When the LA basin had excellent public transport ❤️❤️
Just beautiful!!

P.S. The last time I was this early, this footage hadn't been shot yet.
Another one to share. Grand. Thank you very much.
Probably a very low crime rate at that time. It looks cleaner as well.
superbe document
Reminds me of the beginning of "Double Indemnity".
Same city, for sure....
Even at night you can see the smog
Feels like a Noir film
1. Európa. Hungary! Thanks,
Vad inclusiv sina cu ecartament dublu ("linie incalecata") pentru ce a fost??
Linia Roșie a circulat pe șenile cu ecartament standard. Linia Galbenă (Oraș) se desfășura pe șine cu ecartament îngust.
@@SpeedGraphicFilmVideo Thank you for answer!
it means that on certain sections freight train wagons also traveled to the warehouses on a common rail with the tram.
