- 2015 Kamui Challenge: Jayson Shaw vs Corey Deuel
July 22, 2015
Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino
Las Vegas, NV
Filmed in the Predator Arena with commentary by Ken Shuman, Jay Helfert, & Robert LeBlanc
ON THE 31ST RACK, JASON PUT THE NINE BALL WHERE THE 8 BALL GOES & THE 8 BALL TO THE RIGHT OF THE NINE BALL, SINCE WHEN IS THAT OK ????
2:03:24 Jayson Shaw really racked with the 8 ball not in the center of the rack?! the commentators even said something about how “the rack must’ve not been tight” because the 8 ball was almost made on the break... i’ve never seen this before
2:02:42 what 8 ball rules allow the 8 to be racked not in the middle. I cant stand these announcers. They miss everything
12:06 not sure I've ever seen a pro 8 ball match where one of the players lost due to calling the wrong pocket on the 8.
This was a calling shot on the 8 game.
5:20 “any more rules you want to make up?” 😂😂😂
That is very unfortunate for Cory he played an amazing shot in the last rack to open up his balls and then he miscued wow.
God bless Jay Helford, but it's absolutely hilarious how colorblind he is. Most every ball above 9 that he discussed during the match was the wrong number ;p Clearly he knows about this difficulty, so I'm puzzled why he confidently calls out ball numbers that are wrong. Nice match by both players. Thank you for posting.
Boy that magic rack is real efficient use of time. Jayson is running out faster than they rack the balls!!!!
that thing is stupid.
on game 31 jayson racked with the 9 ball in the 8 ball position and almost made it in the upper left pocket. No one not even the commentoators noticed. they were commenting on how much travel the 8 ball got. check it yourself.... strange. jayson plays so much 9 ball he didn't even thinik about it
Prior to that, when it was 9-7. It looked like Shaw got mad at Corey for 2nd ball breaking like that. Am I wrong?
The 32nd game Jayson Shaw didn't center the 8 ball for the break.
What about Corey's break when it was 12-8 he put two stripes on the 5th row ball corners instead of being a stripe and solid
Why nobody is mentioning that jayson didn't put the blackball on the middle in the 32nd game??
+brian richerson ??
+brian richerson 2:03:30
+charliewaffel
Ok, I didn't get you were talking about the rack. :-)
Great observation Brian
he put the 9 in the middle lol
Everyone mentioned Jayson having the 9 in the wrong spot but Corey had multiple illegal racks where he was putting two of the same type balls in each back corner
Great match! I'm always encouraged when I see that even the monster players can miscue. Great commentary!
Ken....'knows all...sees all'. Damn, wish he could keep quiet for more than 5 seconds.
Jason racked the balls wrong at 2:03:30! The 8 is not right!
erm... the whole match Corey is patternracking and leaving solids in each backrow corner.... so whose the biggest cheater :D
+Daniel Kandi pattern racking is one thing but the eight not in the middle is another more important my friend
Corey needs to abandon that 2'nd ball break shot. Too many times the c.b. ends up on the bottom rail with no easy shot and a messy table.
Funny how a match sponsored by a tip and chalk maker was decided by a mis-cue lol!
+Chris Parker Must have been that they were using Master chalk instead of Kamui!
U guys are mean..Im crying.
Kamui is the best chalk hands down. But it is very expensive. $ 28.00 for one chalk is a little over the top. I tested it once. Just to see. I shot nine racks before I miscued.
what? $28USD for one piece of chalk? are you serious? my master chalk works just fine for me...
@@mrthiefy buy a whole box 144 pieces with they money! I use master like it’s religion
10 years ago I think Corey takes him. That's was his best pool.
Eight ball is not in the middle 2:02:43 Jason cheated
thought you were full of it but you are correct the nine was in the middle
I think one of the commentators saw that the eight was not in its place and just hinted at the rack being fucked up by saying that the balls weren’t tightly racked... idk, maybe didn’t want to be on bad terms with Jayson lol.
he confused it with 9 ball game lol
Woah, I see two stripes on the back corners or two solids, but never the 9 or 10 in the middle 😂 all though I’ve done it before...
Funny that they didn't think Jayson knew 8 ball very well. He was a world blackball champion pretty close to 8 ball.
Well he didn't know where to rack the 8 ball
Did anyone else notice that neither player is using a break cue.
Meucci cues for both, so no wonder
@@wombra8314 meucci users rarely switch I've noticed
And some of the cues, like the bar box one, are advertised to be capable for breaks
If you need a break cue your playing cue is junk
@@fastone371 if you use a soft tip, breaking with the playing cue will flatten your tip pretty fast
Great to see the players interview at end. That should always be the case! Most pros just unscrew their cues and leave. Then they don't understand why few people know
who they are, or care and maybe become fans.
Great uninhibited interview at end. No corporate mouthpiecing, just good ol honest chatting
To answer Cotton and Jay, at 33:45 the reason Corey glanced off the 13 ball I think it was trying to develop it he didn’t want to come in behind that ball and get stuck with no shot. He actually played the shot correctly but glanced too thinly he needed about a 1/3 to 1/2 ball hit to slow the cue ball and prevent him from scratching in the upper right corner, where he caught it just a bit thinner which put most of the movement in the cue ball. He would have been dead if he came behind the ball unless he happened to have a shot in the same pocket he scratched in.
Back when I was a kid, we played loser racks, winner breaks. There was a lot of bitchin about bad racks. Racking your own breaks takes that griping away.
Why they complain about this game that it's boring and change the rules to make it that way and the guy breaking should never touch the rack!
At 2:30:30 onward the announcer really needs to get his nose breathing fixed. It’s screaming into the microphone!
There is no requirement for the cue ball to contact any particular ball first on the break. SMH
Joe Rogan said it best about pool commentary...it's straight Garbage.
Pretty good match up. Funny how Shaw seemed lost with his patterns in the beginning.
I don't think that either of them like this magic rack....
Cory finally gains a few ounces, and he looks better !
Fun match to watch, both players seem to be playing very loose with their pattern play.
I enjoy the interview at the end but…. The Eagle was being Eagle n that effect the great Corey.(just saying) never seen him nervous
The microphone noise towards the end of the match, from the time Kenny gets there and on, makes this almost impossible to watch.
Always like that with Kenny. He is always coughing and clearing his throat. My guess is he is a smoker. But it is always like that when he is the commentator. And it is annoying.
His snacking ass lips when he’s talking makes me not even wanna watch matches he commentates
Billiard Professionals should not talk about amazon as a good side... talk about billiard guys
That table looks a bit short to me. Is it a regular 9ft or an 8ft long?
+MegaZombywoof They play on 7ft tables commonly.
+marshmellow303
Commonly? You mean in this tournament, don't you?
+MegaZombywoof This tourney is 7ft Bar boxes.... The usual size for tournament play is 9fts.
Yes this tournament is played on 7 foot tables.
7 foot
Cry baby shaw got lucky.
1:59:15 rough dig
on rack 5 he could have used the 11 for the key ball and played the 8 in the other corner
Joseph Newcomb good thing you're not the pro here
Jake Lewis just my opinion....everybody has there own preferences of how the would play the rack....im a pretty good 8ball player
@@Leeedels you don't have to be a pro player to say how you would play the table. You stupid
The level of pocket billiard ability and knowledge in this match is at a very high level between these two men. My main reason for commenting is because of the magic rack being used here. I cannot believe these magic racks are in use.The only way they should be used is if there is a way to get a good solid rack with them and then remove them from the table before the break. Probably not possible but that's what it would take for me to be a believer in them.
What's happening with them is, they are affecting the roll of the balls after contact on the break shot. And sometimes those racks really do a number on the balls that roll over them. I have seen it happen too many times to count accurately. For example: in this match at the 9:39 mark check out what happens to the rack and balls during Jason's break shot. The balls should never have a foreign object to roll over especially by design. Pure, smooth felt and slate, NOTHING else. Whoever let these "magic" racks into the game of pocket billiards on the professional level is at least two sandwiches short of a picnic and they need their head examined.
And I stopped watching this about 10 min in. After I was certain it was a 7 ft kiddie table.
this is oldschool 8 ball,
Program directors who choose to switch cameras at the precise moment the cue ball breaks the rack should be pummeled with bar cues and old Sardo racks.
Spoiler shield
Great play
it's the 6 not the 7!
That's not cheating, because he could've been pulled up for an illegal rack if ref saw. And no need to take that risk. It's up to ref to spot that.
there is no ref.
The commentators started out this match talking about how Corey Deuel was such an innovator. Especially when it comes to the break. I do not see him as an innovator. I see him as a person who could not compete outright, so he did everything he could to game the rules to gain an advantage. Because of him, we now have various break rules intended to prevent people from gaming the rules. Because of him, 9-ball has been pretty much ruined. The only way to fix it is to go back to triangle racks.
He was smart enough to figure out a higher percentage way to play 9 ball and the people that didn’t figure it out and got smoked didn’t like it. Dude can runout like an alien when he’s actually in form and was basically unbeatable once he figured out the break, easy to see why people hoping luck was on their side didn’t like it.
CD thew the match!!
Just catching up. Getting back into the game from a ten year lay off. Both players are wonderful to watch. Lots of knowledge and imagination. Don't know if any money was involved, but I know it was an exhibition. Not a whole lot of serious involved. I still like to watch because I can always learn something new or that I may have forgotten. Don't concentrate so much on technical aspects of matches like this but what you can absorb into your mind and body so that the next time you're playing on the green felt and you've got the opportunity at the table-you can make count. Try to see the positive instead of the negative. Do you look at the glass of water half full or half empty. Remember:"Forest for the trees". Shoot true and don't find yourself behind the 8 ball.
Shaw on a bar table makes it look like a board game. Only thing missing is a spinner and a set of dice
That was fun to watch, both players very gentlemen,
jayson racked with the 9 ball in the center and the 8 ball on the side
What was the drama with the ball order in the first rack?
the rack at 1:42 is just not giving a fu@$!! Hilarious.
Bakersfield? What pool hall? Thats where I live.
I cannot believe Corey miscued!!!!!! At that key juncture!!!!! He should've had it!!!
mental lapse
Le Blanc, Jayson's game is English 8-ball or "blackball" as it's often called. That's played on a table that size but with slightly smaller balls and much smaller pockets. Very few players know 8-ball like he does.
corey is one of the best 8 ball players
4:25😂😂 he’s pretty slickkkk yeah!
ken read the wrong thing? lol
Pro`s on a bartable??
On rack 15, all 3 corner balls were solid.
Holy cow, he did it on a LOT of racks.
Ball in Hand anywhere on table makes it way to easy
Joseph Newcomb it is easy but these are professionals or are suppose to be so them scratching shouldn’t be an issue so therefore a drastic measure if you do scratch.
plus it's a small table
Jayson played sloppy most of the match.......he narrowly escaped like 7 racks.....
JAY: One of the very best commentators of all time in my distinguished opinion. And I've seen every match on the internet minus one pocket (SUPER fun to play but the pros take their sweet time more so than most because of the money on the line I'm sure)
What was wrong with rack #1? Rack #5, 7, 9, 11 and 13 Corey racked stripes on the corners. What is up with cue ball in hand anywhere on the table after scratching on the break? This has been a BCA rule for at least 10 years.
what's the percentage under players' names?
+Ramy Helmy At about 4:19 they tell you it's the odds of that person winning.
Who is favorite to win the match
that is you % as a pleayer in that moment, depend how many ball yoy pocketted
+Yahima Rodriguez It's based on your FARGO RATING. Fargo is a solo match where you play all 15 balls. You have two modes: Anything and rotation. In anything: 1 point is awarded for any ball you pocket. Once you switch to rotation, no switchbacks. 2 points for every ball pocketed in rotation
The percentage is based on your Fargo Rating. There is a game called Fargo, which is played as you've described. However, the Fargo Rating is not based upon how you play the game Fargo. Your Fargo Rating is a computation of all of the games you have played, which have been recorded into the system - when you win a game your rating goes up. If you beat a great player, it goes up more than if you beat an average player. The opposite is true if you lose. A top pro can win a match 11-10, and have his Fargo Rating go down if he is playing someone the system believes he should beat by more than that. Likewise, if an amateur plays a pro and loses close, his rating will likely increase. The goal seems to be to create a more objective measurement for a player's skill, which can then be used anywhere in the world. The more people play each other from different areas, the more the system can compare players across the country or across the globe. Any time two players with a Fargo Rating play each other, the system can predict the outcome based upon the outcomes of previous games played in the database. As the score changes and the race becomes shorter, the percentage that one player will win will usually change. For instance - in general terms - if an "A" player is playing a "B" player in a race to 10, the A player may be a 75% favorite. However, once the score is 9-9, it's anyone's game, and the percentage will likely be closer to 55-60% for the A player. There is actual math and quality explanations on the Fargorate website, but in a nut shell, this should explain it.
Jayson's shaft is definitely a pro shaft. Is corey's the ultimate weapon shaft? it looks conical from here lol
Spoiler Alert! Shane puts mike in jail
+Lucy in the sky with Yerba Mate it's not like you didn't know shane was going to beat mike anyway plus it was a good match to watch either way
Loved the interview at the end as well
Why no conventional ball rack? WTF
