    Chicken Feet: A cool variant is to allow three tiles to play on any one double. Doing so, creates the shape of a chicken foot where the back of the K- is the double. As in the normal game, only the first "toe" of the chicken foot needs to be covered before normal playing continues. The other two "toes" can be added anytime. This speeds up the game and takes more skill (you need to keep track of every doubled played).

    Thank you for this video! It was very helpful in learning how to play the game. There are two scenarios that we have come across, where we can't find clear directions. One is when someone, on the first round, leaves an open double, but there are still others that need to take their first turn. What we have decided, for now, is that everyone gets to take their first turn before we worry about doubles that were left open on the first round. If multiple doubles were played on the first round, we take care of closing them out according to the order they were played. I suppose another option would be that the double gets taken care of before any other plays are made, but when it gets back around to the players who have not yet taken their first turn, they could then play as many dominoes as possible.
    The second scenario is when someone, on the first round, does not have a matching Domino for the train, but when they draw a domino, they get a matching Domino for the train. Do they only get to lay that one down? Or do they get to put as many down as possible? For now, what we have decided to do, is to let them play as many as they can.
    I've only played two times since watching your video. I watched 4, and each one was slightly different from the others. I'm open to hearing ways that others handle these situations. :)

    Great tutorial. This is the game of choice for both my family and my in-laws. We differently in 3 ways:
    1. The first double played in The center is the highest double in anyone’s hand. If no one has the double 12 then we go down in order, e.g. double 11, 10,etc. When scoring, we mark that number off and go back to the skipped number(s) for subsequent rounds.
    2. We allow opening a Mexican train on a player’s first move.
    3. Players can only play one domino in the first round. The exception, as stated above, is that the player with The highest double lays that down plus their one tile. So they get a slight advantage.

    Many people have asked that if a person does not have a tile to match the opening tile what to do. But my question is - even if the player marks their train as “open” how does it start? Does another player have to place an opening tile for them? If so, do they still get the chance to put down as many dominoes as they can? Or do they just have to play one tile at a time in whatever open train there is?

    One more question!
    If you have to pick up a tile in your first round you are allowed to put it down if you can start your train. So i can still lay as many tiles following that tile because it’s still my first turn right? Or do you only put that one single tile and then you have to continue one by one on your second round?

    if yes, suppose players 1, plays 4 dominoes so the next player can play up to 4 dominoes but either right on the fourth one or before that, a double is played, should this double be satisfied? My set's instructions states to start the round with the highest double among the players' tiles. This is kind of nice since it gets rid of high scoring tiles right off the bat. As described here, in the later rounds the lowest doubles are played and the low scoring tiles are played leaving the high ones, possibly, in your leftovers. Does this make the game more exciting, or frustrating. I don't play often enough to experiment. What says everyone.

    • @skeenasiren3796
      @skeenasiren3796 5 років тому +2

      Glenn Krzeminski during play you can often get rid of the high value tiles, they aren't necessarily "left over" for long. Also everyone is dealing with the same starting Centre tile so everyone is equally buoyed/distressed by whether it's high or low, so it doesn't really matter. Some rounds you'll be left with high scoring tiles, others low scoring. The fact that you play 13 rounds gives you ample chances to "recover" from a bad round, and gives other players ample chances to "suffer" from a bad round. It's part of the fun. This game is part strategy and part luck. Sometimes you just have bad luck and don't get the tiles you need. It's not a big deal. Enjoy the game :)

    • @59Alaskan
      @59Alaskan 2 роки тому

      You think the Chinese invented Mexican Train Dominoes?

    • @jonl8445
      @jonl8445 2 роки тому

      @@jasonjoyce2177 Well information I found was that it is based off of a version of Pai Gaw so you know for a fact it is different? "Mexican Train comes from a Chinese Domino game called Pai Gaw. This game is played with 32 tiles. After rolling dice to determine who goes first, players try to beat the banker's hand using both the numeric and a symbolic value for their dominoes. "
      The comment was made to reflect the bad instructions from most of the games made in China and pretty much all directions from anything made in China. But hey if it makes you feel smarter to call me out, good luck to you.

    I understand the double must be satisfied before play goes on. But the tutorial only showed the example of double on the Mexican train. Does the rule of being satisfied also apply when a player gets a double on their own train?? In other words does play stop and the double has to be satisfied by anyone just like the example on the video with the double on the mexican train?

      Yes, the rule is the same for a double on a player’s train.

    what if the last domino of a player is a double? after playing it, is the round finished or since a double is played the player should draw from the bone yard to satisfy the double?

      If your last domino is a double and you can play it, you win the game. Once a player has played all their dominoes, the game is over.

    When you take new piece from the stock I think you call it (draw) is it only allowed to get one piece each time?
    Cuz I play Dominos and we take number pieces until we get the one we looking for we stop and play with it

    What happens if you play a double on the opening hand, and you are unable to follow that up? Does the normal procedure for playing doubles apply?

    • @GatherTogetherGames
      @GatherTogetherGames  7 років тому +15

      +Ace Nine A double can be left open on a player's first turn. The first player with a second turn needs to close any open doubles, or normal procedure for doubles apply.

    How does a double work on the first round? Seems like the 1st player could lay down a lot of dominoes, end with a double that no-one else can satisfy. This would give the 1st player a big advantage.

    • @GatherTogetherGames
      @GatherTogetherGames  5 років тому +7

      A double laid in the first round doesn’t need to be satisfied in the first round, but the first player to play in the second round must satisfy any open doubles or draw.

      @@GatherTogetherGames so when we playa our clubhouse, in the first round player one puts down their train and it ends in a double. so then player two has to satisfy it and can't put down their train? and if they can't satisfy it then player 3 has to? We also pick a tile to try and satisfy the double and we continue to play this way picking a tile until someone can satisfy the double. Is this correct?

    I only have one question.. at 3:45 ,.. player 4 opened the Mexican train, then the train is marked.. with whose train do we mark the Mexican train if he already has his “rail”?
    I’ve seen a variation where instead of placing the Mexican train with the rest, it’s just placed separately starting a “‘new starting piece” which is a Mexican train … only,… idk if that’s a good idea since there would be many pieces all over the table lol

      Everyone draws a bone, the highest numbers go first. Going counter clockwise. After that, the winners of the last round goes first.

    If you play a double on your train, and then find you can’t play on that double, do you have to immediately “open” that train?
