I don’t have a PS to play it on but just through watching streamers enjoy themselves over this game it’s easy to see how much love was put into this game.
Tbh I wasn't as surprised since I was constantly hyped over it since it was announced but even so I had such an amazing experience playing it ànd I've been replaying it a good amount
Finished the game yesterday and it's OST is absolutely incredible. Not only is almost every tune catchy, but almost all of the arrangements are so smart. Choosing to add "boy" in that Bot of War song? That does *work* as a reference for people who've played the game. You're playing a platformer? That small amount of 8bit in the intro to boss songs does *work*. What an amazing game.
It's become more rare to see (and hear) games that are genuinely...charming. Games that don't take themselves too seriously and double down on something more whimsical.
Astro Bot should feel like it is just a big commercial for Playstation, but somehow it dodges that. Instead, the game makes me happy (because it's a genuinely good platformer with adorable callbacks to Playstation history) and a bit sad (because it's also a museum of dead IPs...)
i think it's because the developers clearly care about these franchises and want to do them justice, it comes from a genuine place instead of just being to tug at your nostalgia
I haven’t really felt joy for awhile. I started crying a bit within an hour of playing because, idk, I’m just sad all the time. It was really nice to play a game that wants me to feel better.
Another detail that you can hear in Bot of War, the chanting sometimes says "A-so-bi" for Team Asobi. You can hear it clearly at the part Marco skips to @ 10:49
A common theme in the online spaces with Nintendo games, and even with things that Nintendo developers themselves say, is that Nintendo games prioritize fun above all else, and in the spaces I'm in I see people sharing the sentiment that Astro Bot represents that idea to a T, which I think is great to see out of a Sony IP, cuz a lot of ppl do seem pretty jaded with the style of games Sony usually promotes lately. I think that the people fatigued with modern gaming would do well to broaden their horizons, and this is definently the game for that I think. You can tell the developers had so much fun building everything and adding all the details, there's something interesting happening nearly every single second even if it's something small like the controller reacting to the terrain you're walking on.
genuinely such a big reason i've distanced myself so much from playstation even though the ps1 and 2 were my childhood, there's just no charm and whimsy and fun in their games anymore, almost all the recent big games they put out have to be gritty dark depressing stories with maybe 40% gameplay and hyperrealistic graphics. there's nothing wrong with that kind of games, but when that's basically all your library? can only hope the success of astro actually pushes them to make actual fun and lighthearted games again, i miss having games like ratchet and clank, spyro, sly cooper and so on so much
Mascot platformers are a sadly neglected genre outside of Nintendo consoles. Astro Bot hits just right. You played Astro's Playroom, Marco? Because the 'I'm Your GPU' song from that is just a straight up bop.
That one is still my favorite song. I was so happy when I rescued the GPU in Astro Bot. I like that they put the themes from Astro's Playroom in certain levels of Astro Bot. I'm not the best at platformers by any means, but I'm having an absolute blast with this one.
I had that same skepticism about Astro Bot. Playroom was a fun little tech demo, but I didn’t see any reason to buy a full game pushing PlayStation brands. But the hype for this was so big I changed my mind, and now that I’ve got it I have a big grin on my face every time I play it. What a game!
I'm having the time of my life with Astro Bot. I love this game so damn much. The Bot of War level is my favorite special one so far and I love the music so much, but I know I won't play at an actual God of War game (well, I'm sort of tempted a bit). My favorite regular level is when we can shrink down to being the size of a mouse. Even the damn shape levels that I get frustrated with are fun. I actually love that they use basically the same theme for all the bosses (the ones I've gotten to so far), which is the same as the boss theme for the secret final level of Astro's Playroom. I love hearing the tracks from that game in Astro Bot. The GPU song is still the best of those. I love it so much. I'm running around in the Bloodborne Hunter outfit and I was beyond delighted when I realized that the Hunter bot will parry Astro if you punch him. I was in the middle of Shadow of the Erdtree (finally making progress in Shadow Keep), but I happily put it down so I could sink hours in Astro Bot. I'm definitely platinuming this game.
The last music you will hear in the last part of the game is so random, i would never imagine hearing that song in 2024, but it really got me its so nostalgic and so perfect for the game whoever choose that congratulations.
This OST is as incredible as the game. Wall to wall, floor to ceiling bangers. Very happy to see Papa Tree and You Know... featured here, as well; the contrast from "upbeat happy jazz flute and mutual cooperation" to "it's time for you to fight a boss to the death" is wild, and the fact that it works in context is a testament to the team's talent. As soon as this album gets an official release independent of the Deluxe Edition's add-on, it's going to be on heavy rotation for me. Cheers, and thanks as always for the insightful analysis!
When I heard their take on the sounds of Ape Escape, I can’t tell you how thrilled I was. The instrumentation and the use of Jungle rhythms, it had a bit more of the AE2 sound that Terada’s iconic sound but they still nailed it in feeling. My heart was so full.
Ape Escape was my JAM when I was a kid. The original Ape Escape on PS1 is a timeless classic and it's one of my favorites of all time. You should find time to finally play it some day. Also it has a BANGER soundtrack so now you have to play it.
There is a consistent musical theme of "playful memories of home" throughout the tunes that play for both Astro's Playroom and Astro Bot on the PS5 Home Screen, the Demo T-Rex boss fight in Astro's Playroom, and all the major bosses in six of Astro Bot's galaxies and it is *amazing!* how even the music itself is telling a story of playful memories of home
Astro's Playroom was a sweet surprise and had an amazing OST, so it's no surprise at all that Astro Bot is full of bangers ! (If i'm not mistaken, you can even see some of Playroom's OST remixed or at least reused in Astro Bot!)
it makes me really happy to think that people in the future will remember this game in the same way that i feel about something like mario galaxy. it kept reminding me of that when i was playing it, and there's just something nice to me about seeing a game like this as it releases
I can't stop thinking about this game. It blows anything Mario has put out in decades. I can't believe there were able to fit so many mechanics in one game. Plus the controller just compliments the gameplay. The soundtrack is banger after banger😅
Kenneth Young is just that good. That fucker also did parts of lbp music as well as Tearaway. My only regret is that Polyethylen Paradise did not make it to Astrobot.
Astro Bot is the soundtrack of the year. It makes and defines the experience without it I can’t imagine, 2nd is Stellar Blade similar to Astro Bot the original music in the game is so incredible. I have not played Rebirth but I imagine it would compete.
I´m enjoying this ... slowly! (My job helps me with that!) Buuuut as all af you here, I'm amazed at the care and love poured into this awesome game. I remember my reaction when it was announced. I was so excited and at the same time I wasn't really surprised at the lack of hype from the internet. "A little demo getting a full game... that's not GOTY material"... pleasantly surprised I was wrong. I love the way the internet has embraced this treasure of a game. And the music is in a league of its own!
It's been a long time since I've heard such joy, fun, and whimsy in a soundtrack that wasn't from Nintendo. The tunes of Astro Bot have been stuck in my head for the last 2 weeks, and I can't get them out. They're so good, so fun, so full of personality. And of course, even though Nintendo has similarly lovingly crafted soundtracks, this isn't Nintendo! There's a distinct difference in flavor which makes it all the more refreshing. Part of me wants it to fail soundtrack of the year, just out of spite, because of all the years that phenomenal Nintendo soundtracks weren't even nominated! Astro Bot definitely deserves it, but I'm still salty over all the Nintendo games that also deserved it!
I feel so bad for Astro Bot in regards to the Game Awards. Its so goddamn surreal that with Rebirth and Astro Bot 2 Game of the Decade came out in the same year for their respective genres. In terms of music I don't see Astro Bot having any chance of winning against Rebirth. None. And thats a shame
@@Kasuta_Ikitedon’t has to be a hater. I love rebirth so much but have on the other hand many problems with it, like the many copy paste content(even music. you need to try the astrobot rescue mission for ps4, the VR is really something else... also you can play the ace combat 7 whit VR once you get your VR set, is worth it
You should react to the Crimson Fatalis Theme Medley from Monster Hunter Frontier G. Probably one of the most intense themes I've ever heard and it's absolutely crazy good. Very scary which I wouldn't expect from a game like MH
