The Secret Garden holds a special place in my heart. My dad read it to me for the first time after my third open heart surgery. I’m going to have to reread it and read it to my kids! Love the recommendations. I’ll for sure be adding a few to my tbr list! Thank you. 💕
I read The Count of Monte Cristo this summer and loved it! Don Quixote has been on my list for so long. I’ve started it but never finished. It’s so funny and clever. Definitely interested in Pym, Dazai, and Pessoa. Thanks for the recommendations. 👍🏼
I just re-read The Secret Garden for the third or fourth time. The older I get (I'm 55), the more I seem to enjoy it. Reading it along with 12-year- olds is pretty wonderful, too. ❤
I just started reading Pym the last few months and love her books! I’ve been reading a lot of authors from that time and my reading time is so much more enjoyable. Thanks for the recommendations, I’m new to your channel.
Some good suggestions. Thanks. I’ll read The Bell Jar, Schoolgirl (I love Japanese literature). Animal Farm, Fahrenheit 451 and To The Lighthouse are all excellent novels
I will definitely be coming back to this, great list! This year i'll be throwing in a bit more Agatha Christie into the mix cause i read them 10+ years ago and it's time for a reread
I read The Bell Jar in my twenties, and I have a necklace that says, "I am." Other books I would love to reread: To Kill a Mockingbird, Little Women, and The Lord of the Rings Trilogy.
@cafeaulivre Definitely, mine too! My Dad bought me the abridged version when I was 10 years old. I read it on repeat, then when I was older, I fell in love with the adult version, lol.
I absolutely have to read The Yellow Wallpaper. I'm always so intrigued by classics that deal with 'hysteria'. I haven't heard of Schoolgirl but it's definitely piqued my interest! I'm hoping to finally get around to the Woolf on my shelf this year 😊 Danny the Champion of the World was one of my all time favourites as a child 🥹
@@cafeaulivre I have it on my shelves to reread, but in the Irish language, so I've been putting it off a bit because my Irish is rusty at best. I'm sure reading it as a father now is a wonderful experience 😊
This is a great idea! I’ve been reading some classics the past couple of weeks (Austen and Brontë) and would love to continue on. Thanks for the inspiration! The Yellow Wallpaper and Anna Karenina I especially want to read, and reread Dracula 🧛♂️
I want to read Anna Karenina so badly, I own it but I need to find the courage to pick it up. My priority classic for 2024 is to read Dune, so that is definetly my priority.
@@cafeaulivre yeah of course reading some classic books is more challenging than others. But you have my attention. 🤔 which ones do you have in your mind?
Great recommendations , you’ve listed some of my absolute faves and I love Rumi ❤ I have jotted down maya angelou and James Baldwins book as I did enjoy giovannis room , and a book I have never heard of before Elizabeth and her German garden .. and this year I MUST get to Dracula , I feel a bit bad that I have never got to it being born and bred Irish … it is a book celebrated by a festival held in bram stokers name every year here , but I’m glad you picked it over dr jekyl because if I’m frank about it , that book bored me to tears 😂
The Bell Jar is great. Yellow Wallpaper is not for the feint of heart. It's a great story and should be read but it is psychology brutal. Gilgamesh is just fantastic.

Honestly any jane austen book
@@draganastankovski2264 Have you tried any of the Brönte sisters yet?
I wanna read de profundis , brothers karamazov and middlemarch this year.🤞

Thank you for sharing such a beautiful memory!
Absolutely interesting recommendations, the bell jar and anna karenina is in my tbr for 2024 loved that you mentioned those two
Two totally different books, but both certainly worth it!
I read The Count of Monte Cristo this summer and loved it! Don Quixote has been on my list for so long. I’ve started it but never finished. It’s so funny and clever. Definitely interested in Pym, Dazai, and Pessoa. Thanks for the recommendations. 👍🏼
Thank you for watching 😊
The Yellow Wallpaper is one that gets better the more you read it in my opinion.
I find it more claustrophobic each time I read it

I can imagine how reading it with them is simply magical 🥰

Welcome, happy to have you. If you’re looking for more modern classic recommendations, I have an entire video with those 😊
@@cafeaulivre Thank you, I’ll certainly check it out. I’m always looking for more good authors.
Some good suggestions. Thanks.
I’ll read The Bell Jar, Schoolgirl (I love Japanese literature).
Animal Farm, Fahrenheit 451 and To The Lighthouse are all excellent novels
Do let me know your thoughts if you read them!
@@cafeaulivre I certainly will 👍

I might actually join you in that: I read all ACs in my late teens, but they are due a reread
Such a good timing! I was contemplating whether I should start The Bell Jar anytime soon. Now I'll officially start my first read of 2024! Thank you~
Oh wow! It certainly is a great book to start your year with…it can only go less depressing from there 🤣😉
I read it and only remember not "not liking" it so it's time for a reread as well with new perspective
Definitely!
Anna Karenina and Moby Dick are two classics on my 2024 list.
Highly recommend Stoner by John Williams as an overlooked American classic!
Stoner is an absolutely superb novel
I agree, Stoner is ever so good.
Hi! Great recommendations💫 I really liked Excellent Women and also I would recommend Autumn Quartet 🎉
The novel by Barbara Pym you mean?
@@cafeaulivre yes both are really good and also Jane and Prudence
As if I didn’t have too many books to read 🤣🤣🤣
Some Tame Gazelle is very good also.
That’s her first novel, isn’t it?
Thank you for your recommendations, they are wonderful as usual. I am so agree with you about children literature! Very happy New Year !
I wrote my dissertation on children’s literature long ago, but I will never stop championing it 😊
I read The Bell Jar in my twenties, and I have a necklace that says, "I am."
Other books I would love to reread: To Kill a Mockingbird, Little Women, and The Lord of the Rings Trilogy.
Little Women is one of my all-time favorites 🥰

I'm hoping to finally get around to the Woolf on my shelf this year 😊
Danny the Champion of the World was one of my all time favourites as a child 🥹
And the thing with Danny is I now read it in a different way than I did when I was a child, and still I love that book to bits! 🥰
@@cafeaulivre I have it on my shelves to reread, but in the Irish language, so I've been putting it off a bit because my Irish is rusty at best. I'm sure reading it as a father now is a wonderful experience 😊

You could continue forever! 😊 There are so many excellent classics, especially if you also count modern classics….the choice is endless
I'm not really a fan of classics, but these are interesting recommendations.
Might I ask why not? This always interests me 😊
I want to read Anna Karenina so badly, I own it but I need to find the courage to pick it up. My priority classic for 2024 is to read Dune, so that is definetly my priority.
I found Dune a challenge tbh. The worldbuilding is vast 😳
Dune is more in my comfort zone, so that's why@@cafeaulivre
Anna karenina is a definitely masterpiece but no need to be intimidated.
As a matter of fact, there are few classics I would say should intimidate a reader.
@@cafeaulivre yeah of course reading some classic books is more challenging than others. But you have my attention. 🤔 which ones do you have in your mind?

Ps .. That shirt is amazing!
If you liked Giovanni’s Room, I would also recommend If Beale Street Could Talk….that book is 😳🥵
Thank you 😊
Such Excitement, Thank you sir❤📚
My pleasure 😊

Daantje is zowat de vreemde eend: totaal geen magische of fantastische elementen, maar oh zo mooi!
I strongly recommend to read a victorian classical novel" The Gadfly" by E. L. Voinich. It is an absolutely brilliant book!
Don’t think I know that one, thanks for the recommendation!
The Bell Jar is great. Yellow Wallpaper is not for the feint of heart. It's a great story and should be read but it is psychology brutal. Gilgamesh is just fantastic.
Oh, I agree, it is a spiral of abuse and psychological torment!
