He is, because from august we knew the O line wasn’t good, Russell isn’t a mobile QB, so his immobility makes it worse, he also isn’t very tall, and without GP and the deep ball he can’t make intermediate throws very well and isn’t mobile which is how he combatted that when he was younger, he also being in mobile has made the run game worse and without the threat of the deep ball both the pass game and run game has suffered. Those are all his characteristics/fault, against bad teams or teams not playing well that’s ok, you can’t win with these deficiencies against the good teams. He already doesn’t have and never had a good supporting cast, and honestly probably never will, just not how Pittsburgh builds their teams lately, so he is always going to have to do more with less, and he can’t. So that kinda makes it his fault.

Look at the 14 teams in the playoffs. 11 of those teams O-lines are ranked in the top 12. The Chargers (18th), Steelers (23rd) and the Texans (31st) made the playoffs with inferior O-lines. Herbert and Wilson are also in the top 14 in passer rating despite their deficient O-line play...apples to apples gentlemen.

Steelers’ O-line reminds me of when we played tackle as kids and there weren’t enough kids to block. You would just stand there lookin’ at the QB and you were supposed to count to “5 Mississippi” and then rush. Of course, in the end you just kinda’ slurred out “5 Missippi” and rushed. The defense held the bengals to 19 points, that last 2 minute drive should have resulted in a FG that would have won it for them, Russell Wilson made some stupid decisions in that drive, I blame that on him.

Btw, Patrick Mahomes now has two young 1st round picks in Xavier Worthy and Hollywood Brown playing receiver for him, plus a still productive DeAndre Hopkins, PLUS one of the greatest tight ends of all time in Travis Kelce. Mahomes was struggling mightily when Brown was out and they hadn't yet gone out and gotten Hopkins. Through six weeks he had thrown 6 TDs and 8 INTs, and yet the Chiefs were 6-0, because the defense was playing lights out. I'm not 100% convinced the Steelers conservative, vanilla game plan against the Bengals wasn't at least partly motivated by a lack of concern over the result once the Ravens locked up the division earlier that day. I suspect they may have decided they would rather put less on film for their playoff opponent then empty the playbook trying to win a game that at best was going to decide whether they go to Houston or Baltimore. Baltimore is a short trip from Pittsburgh, and Zay Flowers got hurt earlier in the day, so Tomlin may not have been particularly worried about drawing the Ravens in the wild card round.

They have been spoiled to have great coaches throughout Steelers history. The fact that people didn't find out Antonio Brown was a head case until the end of his career shows you how well the Steelers head coach and players kept it under the radar. Coaching has killed Pittsburgh the last 4 games. Rush fourth most attempts in NFL, 26th in the league in rushing… they keep doing it… They gave 0 help when Hendrickson was rushing Russel last week (Leads the league in sacks) Time management has been awful, ext ext.

George is terrible at route running and also reading defenses. There were times he was wide open all he had to do was stop but instead runs towards the coverage. Russ has been iffy but not the biggest problem. Play calling has been horrific but also I saw a tight end on a toss play run the wrong way! Terrible execution.

Oh Stephen - Russ put 400 yards on these people just a couple of weeks ago, but for some reason the coaches decided on a different game plan for the second game. Russ is just fine. Pickens dropped 75% or so of his passes, the ball sailed through Austin's hands, and Freiermuth had a drop - all at very inopportune times. And as Unc noted, the left tackle was getting hammered - and the coaches didn't do anything to help. Wilson can't do anything when that's happening.

As a die-hard Pittsburgh Steeler fan, Mike Tomlin and the coaching staff have to clean this up. From Plaxico Burress back in the day to Antonio Brown, Chase Claypool and now George Pickens. This situation with Pickens could ultimately be what gets Mike Tomlin fired. As for the current situation Russell is not totally the blame because if it wasn't for him giving our offense a spark this offense would probably be abysmal. I know George Pickens is a head case, but we're just not that good at receiver without him. I don't understand why they didn't utilize Freiermuth in the offense more. Calvin Austin can be somewhat of a deep threat but he's very small in stature. Mike Williams has some ability but he's not fully developed and Van Jefferson is simply nothing more than a third receiver at best. I’m from Pittsburgh & live in Pittsburgh our problem has always been OC, tomlin has to put his “relationships” to the side when deciding what’s best for the fate of our team future. 2 back to back terrible OC is not a good look especially with a first round exit looking likely for like what we haven’t won a playoff game I think since 2017-18. That’s unacceptable as a steeler fan we always been the dominant team in our division, Baltimore took the division while tomlin was sleep!

If Wilson played in Detroit, the numbers would be equal to or better than Goff's. The only gripe I have is that he tries to do too much in the 4th quarter and sometimes turns it over. He missed Pickens late last week but hit a couple guys in the numbers and they couldn't make the play.
His efforts in the 4th quarter are typically trying to overcome poor play calling from the first 3 quarters. He is nearly always having to play from behind.

Btw, Patrick Mahomes now has two young 1st round picks in Xavier Worthy and Hollywood Brown playing receiver for him, plus a still productive DeAndre Hopkins, PLUS one of the greatest tight ends of all time in Travis Kelce. Mahomes was struggling mightily when Brown was out and they hadn't yet gone out and gotten Hopkins. Through six weeks he had thrown 6 TDs and 8 INTs, and yet the Chiefs were 6-0, because the defense was playing lights out.
I'm not 100% convinced the Steelers conservative, vanilla game plan against the Bengals wasn't at least partly motivated by a lack of concern over the result once the Ravens locked up the division earlier that day. I suspect they may have decided they would rather put less on film for their playoff opponent then empty the playbook trying to win a game that at best was going to decide whether they go to Houston or Baltimore. Baltimore is a short trip from Pittsburgh, and Zay Flowers got hurt earlier in the day, so Tomlin may not have been particularly worried about drawing the Ravens in the wild card round.

George is terrible at route running and also reading defenses. There were times he was wide open all he had to do was stop but instead runs towards the coverage. Oh Stephen - Russ put 400 yards on these people just a couple of weeks ago, but for some reason the coaches decided on a different game plan for the second game. Russ is just fine. Pickens dropped 75% or so of his passes, the ball sailed through Austin's hands, and Freiermuth had a drop - all at very inopportune times. And as Unc noted, the left tackle was getting hammered - and the coaches didn't do anything to help. Wilson can't do anything when that's happening.

As a die-hard Pittsburgh Steeler fan, Mike Tomlin and the coaching staff have to clean this up. From Plaxico Burress back in the day to Antonio Brown, Chase Claypool and now George Pickens. This situation with Pickens could ultimately be what gets Mike Tomlin fired.
As for the current situation Russell is not totally the blame because if it wasn't for him giving our offense a spark this offense would probably be abysmal. I know George Pickens is a head case, but we're just not that good at receiver without him. I don't understand why they didn't utilize Freiermuth in the offense more. Calvin Austin can be somewhat of a deep threat but he's very small in stature. Mike Williams has some ability but he's not fully developed and Van Jefferson is simply nothing more than a third receiver at best. And when they're both gone they'll find another scapegoat in Fields. The Steelers fanbase are a bunch of crybabies. If Wilson played in Detroit, the numbers would be equal to or better than Goff's. The only gripe I have is that he tries to do too much in the 4th quarter and sometimes turns it over. He missed Pickens late last week but hit a couple guys in the numbers and they couldn't make the play.
His efforts in the 4th quarter are typically trying to overcome poor play calling from the first 3 quarters. He is nearly always having to play from behind.

I feel like part of the reason the Steelers end up with these amazing receivers who are headcases is by design, a lot of other teams dont take that chance on em, dont sign up for those issues whereas the Steelers think they can overcome em or mold em and it just hasnt worked out time and time again. I dont think its just an unlucky thing that all the great receivers they find are crazy.
