Taylor: Excellent demonstration. Don't know if I would recommend installing bees while wearing a Harris Tweed Jacket. You're a brave soul. Had you hung the queen from one of the bars and then left the package inside, the bees would have followed. Placing her in the hive first is key. Thanks again. Jim.
Just put the queen on a frame, leave the package in the open end. Close the lid. Come back in am. And no you dont need a landing boatd. Open the entrance. Go away. Leave em alone. You're stressing way toi much lol
Thank you for your video, Taylor! How are your bees doing? How much honey did you have to feed them after that package installation? I am building my first hives now. Very excited for spring!
My bees aren't doing really well right now. Not sure exactly what happened. They were really strong from February last year and all through the summer. Not much activity at all this winter. Not sure if they left or they died????? Been too cold to open up the hive.
Hi Taylor, liked you video. It was so timely since I'm fetching my first package of bees this morning. I like the bee stand. May I ask where you got it?
Not sure if you are really brave or really crazy, but I guess you got them in there!!!!!! Put my in 2 weeks ago and they have been busy bring in nectar and pollen. I wanted Russians too, but hard to find out here in western Kansas. Just bought two swarm traps from Dr Leo myself, came today! Hoping to build a full size hive soon, using two regular deep horizontal hives now.
@@tayloracreshomestead887 I hear ya, took one to the back of the neck after mine were in, lol! Getting stung hurts, not sure how some of these guys do it without gloves, and some without veils!
I don't understand why people that don't use the standard Langsthroth hive always work so hard to show how much better their unconventional hive is. I have not yet seen any advantages of the Layens hive standard over the Langsthroth hive. I don't see a single commercial beekeeper using Layens hive. The way I see it the Layens hive stay mostly empty, lots of wasted space. Commercial beekeepers are in for the money and if the Layens hive gave them an advantage they would certainly be using it. Langsthroth hive has been in continues use for over 160 years and are used by 99.999% of beekeepers. It seems to me that the people that promotes the Layens hive over the standard Langsthroth hive are exploiting the inexperienced beekeeper. BTW, did you know that honey costs 30 times more than sugar syrup and bees don' t know if you feed them honey or sugar syrup. Also, summer bees live about a month and a half and winter bees at most 5 months, so by April all of the last year's bees will be dead except for the queen. Ah, remember that bees are not pets.
Depends why you are into bees. Langstroth has proven itself for mass production. I have various horizontal hives which I keep for a hobby. Took eight small jars of honey, last year and left the rest for the bees. I am having a lot of fun with my hives. To each their own.
Here are advantages. 1. The most you need to lift is 1 frame. 2. When you open the hive the bees aren’t disturbed. Only the frames you take out are disturbed. 3. It’s insulated. Have a look at Rev Langstroth Beekeepers Manual page 14. Even he recommended insulation
I use to use Langsthroth hives. I switched to Layens because they're much more efficient and are much easier on the bees and my back. Most bee keepers in America use Langsthroth because they been established here first and are more common, however, of you do your research you'll find that the Layens hive is closer to a natural tree trunk habitat than Langsthroth hives and Layens hives are better insulated in colder climate. Once you switch you'll never go back to the outdated Langsthroth hive
I am surprised you didn't put that bit of comb the bees made into a frame!
Lazy and in too big a hurry to get it all together.

Yes, I forgot what I was wearing in my excitement to get the bees in on a warmer day. Good point on the queen. I should know that by now!!

That's what I was thinking I would do this time. Thanks for the confirmation!! It only makes sense!!

I had a friend of mine weld it up for me to fit my box

Maybe crazy but I had no choice. My bee suit is in storage and had to get them in the hive. I’m really a chicken. I really don’t like getting stung!!

Is this video about how NOT to install new bees?! Almost funny! 😊
Eish... beekeeping here in africa is way more fun... We have REAL bees 😉😛🤣
Take out all the extra frames in the open end. Leave it open.
