This was going to be my point. At this point we don’t know why Mark sent Mark S. back. Yes it could be because he is he doesn’t care, but I am of the mind that he and his above-average intelligent sister figured out Gemma is still alive. Mark S was, after all, holding the photo of himself and Gemma when he shouted “She’s alive!” Yes it could turn out that everyone thinks Mark is talking about baby Eleanor, but Devon could also come to the conclusion he was talking about Gemma. I can’t wait.

Yeah, why would he not care that Gemma was still alive and at Lumon? He's gone back to find her knowing that he'll be severed when he returns but that innie Mark now also knows what's going on.
She is! Maybe outie Helly is confronting Cobel. She’d be annoyed being the daughter of the founder and also confused ass to what happened to her Innie.

That clock you talk about during the ball scene is in a mirror, so we are seeing it backwards, it's not the afternoon, it's 9:25 or something in the morning! It almost looks like it's happening at the exact same time as the first time!
The intro sequence is definitely just *really* good cinematography. I don't think there's any cgi there. The cinematography for this show has always been superb.
12:17 There's the goat feeding things and the hay visible if you look closely, so I'm pretty sure that is the goat room. The design of the machines matches the ones seen in the original goat scene, although the machines were lowered there. If so, this small tunnel would be on the left wall of the goat room which wasnt shown in the original scene IIRC.
My Theory: Mark woke up in his unsevered state and his sister told him his innie took over and said "shes alive". Mark stopped going back to lumin but eventually curiousity got the better of him and he went back after months/a year. This means that Mark S (innie) has been activated and his last memory was being on the outside, he does not know how much time has passed. In that time, the MDR team have all been replaced. All accept Dillion who did not experience the outside as he was holding the switch. This made him resentful and he continued to wait for his MDR team to come back and they didnt so he switched sides
Dylan was activated outside before any of the others, and he knows they would be in trouble once he is tackled. No need to be afraid, He thinks he's famous too.
It never occurred to me until now, but Mark's cry of "she's alive!" has some real Dr. Victor Frankenstein vibes from the old Universal films. This may be accidental, maybe it's deliberate - either way, it's definitely fitting. Looking forward to season 2. Edit; I had the same thought as you on seeing the new team. They look like knockoffs of the original MDR team and might even be the same people or the same "implants" in new "hosts" (so to speak, I am aware that's not exactly how Severance works).
the scene around 5:44 where you said it was reused footage from season 1 episode 5 is actually new footage, you can see Helly is wearing a deep blue turtleneck sweater, the same one that Mr. Milchick is wearing. that HAS to mean something
This could be way out there, but, here we are….. do you think it’s got something to do with cloning? And did Gemma really die? Or is she a clone? Maybe she was an organ donor? Don’t know why I’m stuck on this clone thing! 🤣🤣

I was rewatching season 1 and in harmony’s Lumon shrine there was an old cut out that said “Lumon Industries High Quality Pharmaceutical intervention” which I thought was interesting since we don’t know what Lumon does
Loved the video! I've seen some things 😁 5:30 is clearly a new scene. Helly doesn't wear the same clothes than in the season 1, but I think it is just before 12:06. Talking about 12:06 I think it is in the goat room, we can see on the background some hay At 10:56, it could be just after the end of the last episode of the season 1 because Ms Cobel wears the same clothes and we can see Helly in her dress in the mirror
In the conference room table scene with Kobel Helly is at the head of the table, only seen in the reflection on the left in what looks like the same gala dress from the finale's evening with the OTC. Great video breakdown right up there with Heavy Spoilers and Screencrush who I tweeted to RETURN TO THE OFFICE for their breakdowns but this was good. With the "this is your mom/dad" jokes I see you're a man of similar culture as well. lol
A part of me thinks that his wife's death was fabricated. Making Mark work at the company, but why exactly we do not know. Maybe to test how well the severed technology can work around someone with so much importance to their outie. Since in one of the wellness sessions, Mark molded a tree. That, noting the fact his severed mind is aware of the tree, which led to the crash resulting in his wife's quote-unquote "death". But in the end, we are yet to see why they let him back into the severed floor. We know he's not been reset because of the emotional distress he is showing immediately upon returning back as his innie. Not to mention still knowing the exact path to the main office space, not recognizing the others but recognizing Milchik. Furthermore, Milchik's "Been a minute." tells us it certainly has not. The doorways to the office space have changed back to being completely open all the time, the new workers already have items on their desks, and the exterior of the Lumon building is also different as seen in the first teaser. I assume that after Mark's "She's alive!" he goes through an emotional crisis about his wife. His outtie is completely confused about what was happening in that moment, only for the others to question why he shouted what he did. He looks down to see the photo of her and is speechless. Only for Devon to confirm with him privately moments later that his outie was conscious. And considering what he's seen so far, especially with Petey, he'd believe it. But the fact that she was trapped at Lumon is still unknown to them as his innie did not have the opportunity to clear that up. He spends weeks contemplating what happened to her, and maybe we would finally get a glimpse of how the accident really took place. After that, he returns to work, and they just let him in.
I think it’s fabricated as well. Did they say Gemma worked in research? I know she was at the university.. Maybe she orchestrated all of this and designed the experiment with Lumon. Miss Casey would have no idea.
@5:32 The hallway analysis... These are two separate shots, not something cut for editing. Proof: She's wearing two different outfits so I don't think it's from the same scene. When they first enter the hall she has dark top, lighter skirt. In the hall it's the opposite and also her blouse is open at the top, whereas it is not when they enter. Also when they enter the hall you can see he has something in his breast pocket, and in the hall he does not.
I love the endless hallways and locked doors for drama and cinematography but for sheer construction costs it seems like there's lot of money being spent but not a lot of actual work getting done.
i've had a funny feeling for several months now that season 2 will actually open with a significant time jump. not that eventually we won't go back and cover the more immediate stuff, but it'll start for awhile super far ahead
Ahhhh - Finally found the "Older Dylan" actor name - Adrian Martinez!!! I remember him as the Bodega Cashier from The Amazing Spider-man but he has been in a lot more, like Walter Mitty with Ben Stiller.
I think the reason the beginning "feels off" is because of the type of complex shot that is being preformed. They are probably stitching multiple shots together which is why it looks cgi heavy and "animated." I could be wrong and maybe they did it on purpose to emphasize the fact that something is off which is really cool!
someone like isolated audio from dylan and hellys convo during irvings first dozing incident & he says mark got the head bc when he was first hired he finished an entire file called "allentown" in a single day.
I think this is outie mark going into lumon for the first time, maybe after the chip is altered somehow and he's able to go in himself. He's running around like he doesn't know where to go after making the same trip to his desk every morning without error for how many years... maybe the innie / outie versions got switched?
The bathroom scene. I think it’s outie Helly’s “waking up” and she touches her neck remembering that office Helly tried to kill her and in fact, she is not always in control and I think it terrifies her.
Motorcyclist could be Irving since he was in a leather jacket? Helena touching her neck could be her remembering that Helly tried to escape her hell, thus Helena might start to emphasize with her innie. Especially after the speech everyone saw her innie give.
The whole thing about outie Mark sending his Innie back to work feels like a setup for a plan to get his wife back to me. Innie Mark is the only one that has seen her.
I don’t feel it’s animated after coming out of the elevator - just the Apple Tv on the wall is likely CGI… I think this teaser trailer is aimed for apple vision / AR - should look amazing on that…
I believe Season One was meant to be nothing more than an allegory of the corporate workplace. How it can be so unpleasant for some that many disconnect from their 'outside' selves. There was never a plan to do Season Two. So, I'm not sure it'll succeed. Expectations are very high and that's a recipe for disaster.
the tricky cam movement stuff after he bursts out of elevator - I respect the idea that it could be CG, but I believe thats just camera movement specialists at their best. Apple is going bankrupt (not really, just being dramatic) funding this show, theyre pulling out all the stops in their production. everything about how this show was shot has been and likely will continue to be A++
Apple has over $100 Billion of cash on hand, Billion, big B. NOT stocks or assets, actually cash, cash money. If each episode is costing $20,000,000 and Apple never made another penny they could do 5,000 episodes of Severance.
@@colin-nekritzyeah they’re a giant. Not sure if you’re implying that their arsenal for entertainment is that large, but obviously whatever the total amount of cash they have, they absolutely only allocate a percentage to Apple TV. Apples got their hands in a lot lol
14:45 Who does Mark see? It’s not the 3 employees, it’s a different Mark. My theory is that, this is OUTIE Mark, trapped underground, not knowing where he is, seeing Gemma at 13:42. What else could give Mark such a reaction? I think that’s the unknown. It’s a shot in the dark but I feel like a few things support it. 1. Lunon would need to trap Outie Mark. 2. He didn’t know where he was going after getting off the elevator. He’s never been there. There are holes in the theory since Lunon would also need to trap half the people at the dinner party and why would Lunon show Gemma to Mark in the first place?
So many great things to chew on here. I very excited for the second season. I don't think the intro is CGI. I think it's done practically with a robot at a high frame rate and that's why it feels so surreal. Scenes aren't typically filmed like that, so having that oddly super smooth motion definitely adds to the unnatural nature of being an innie. Or may it is CGI and it's really fucking good.
Mark 2:22 in the bible “And no one pours new wine into old wineskins. Otherwise, the wine will burst the skins, and both the wine and the wineskins will be ruined. No, they pour new wine into new wineskins.” May mean something in regards to the innie in an old brain and the seams of their minds can unravel
On the scene of Mark and Helly walking down the dark corridor, Please look at her outfit. Completely different. Tight top vs flowy top. These are not a continuation of the same scene from season one. This is a new scene from season two. Maybe they are going back to look for the Goats/Kids and for more information on what Lumon is doing...
I love your analysis! Here are my two cents. I think the helly-mark hallway scene is not an unused clip from season 1, as her blouse is different. And the dark hallway sketch seems to show a triangle, not a heart :)
My theory is Lumon is developing re-inserting brain in a dead body. Thats why cobel is working for Lumon, she wants to revive her mom with new brain. And thats why cobel is so into anout Gemma and Mark. ( i believe actually Gemma is dead from the accident and Lumon-Gemma (innie) is actually her body with new brain.... Thats what is goat for... Thats why Lumon- the Board dont have actual body yet.. just brain.. so that they coul live everlasting in different body , just switching brain/ move on to next body when the body gets old.
What if Gemma is secretly working for the company? Lumons employee in the severed floor seem to be vulnerable in the outside. Would it be a far stretch to say they took an interest in Mark and he is a case study and they just faked Gemma death and they are testing him. Gemma might be severed, but the real Gemma is aware of study and uses her self to see if innie mark can recall or if severance is working long term.
RE: outie Mark staying with Lumon, what if Devon and the others told outie Mark, that innie mark said Gemma was alive? imo that would be enough to get Outie Mark to do a 180 on his desire to quit Lumon.
Irving is one of the oldest employees with means he might be a older model of the chip in his brain. Older models mean he may needs to go to the reintegration room more then once.
I thought the disorienting, swoopy shots of Mark after he gets off the elevator felt a lot like Petey, post reintegration... Also, among the quick cuts is a still of Mark in a red sweater looking ragged af with that look like wires or cables attached to his head... I'm pretty sure Mark gets reintegrated after the events of the finale and this is probably his first exp back in the office, trying to orient himself.
Maybe Outie Mark gets the integration procedure and goes back to Lumon to find his wife with all of his memories intact. That could explain the balloons and new coworkers assuming he was out on leave for a period of time. I don’t see why Outie Mark would send Innie Mark back knowing Cobel has been posing as Mrs Selvig and she likely knows about the OTC. Innie Mark probably couldn’t pull it off and doesn’t know enough about Gemma to determine if she’s still “in there” somewhere. Can’t wait to finally get another season!
Some bad assumptions. Mark S is back at Lumon because his sister convinced outie Mark that his wife is alive. He’s not just going back because outie Mark doesn’t care. Mark taking the ball doesn’t mean he’s defeated. He’s there trying to get Ms Casey out. It’s a long game he has to play slowly. How do you know that’s an older version of Dylan?
Adding for the sake of argument : They’re celebrating Mark because they need to smooth things over with him and make him feel special in their weird Lumon way, even if it’s totally ineffective. I don’t think this is a grand experiment.
Wait.....so the new coworkers are replacements to Helly, Dylan and Irving???? So the only one who really comes back is Mark? This show is soooo confusingly Good!!!!
13:40 or it could be a post-reintegrated Mark having a flashback seeing his wife for the first time.
Wait, this is actually genius.

Who’s says Marks running on the same floor as first season? What if this is another city, not Kier?
I don’t feel it’s animated after coming out of the elevator - just the Apple Tv on the wall is likely CGI…
I think this teaser trailer is aimed for apple vision / AR - should look amazing on that…
I believe Season One was meant to be nothing more than an allegory of the corporate workplace. How it can be so unpleasant for some that many disconnect from their 'outside' selves. There was never a plan to do Season Two. So, I'm not sure it'll succeed. Expectations are very high and that's a recipe for disaster.
My guess is the VO of Mark giving consent will be shown to him as it was to Helly in S1, and this will be a "reset" for him.
the tricky cam movement stuff after he bursts out of elevator - I respect the idea that it could be CG, but I believe thats just camera movement specialists at their best.
Bro, that's not jazz playing in the background, that's The Who.
It is defiant jazz ;)
The moving shot of him after he gets off the elevator appears to be done with a kuka arm, likely with some added CGI
Definitely, i couldn't find the name, but you got it. Mark isn't CGI in that scene, they do some crazy edits with it, that is for sure.
How dare you !Helly is so gorgeous
That clock is seen in a mirror though so shouldn't it be 09:38?
I was just about to write the same thing
@@rayalix oh good catch, I think you’re right!
Mark 2:22 in the bible
“And no one pours new wine into old wineskins. Otherwise, the wine will burst the skins, and both the wine and the wineskins will be ruined. No, they pour new wine into new wineskins.”
May mean something in regards to the innie in an old brain and the seams of their minds can unravel
Isn't the Dylan Doppelganger actor Adrian Martinez?
I love your analysis! Here are my two cents. I think the helly-mark hallway scene is not an unused clip from season 1, as her blouse is different. And the dark hallway sketch seems to show a triangle, not a heart :)
The clock looked like a mirror reflection so it would be in the morning not afternoon. js
I think Mark is going to be arrested for the death of Doug Graner as Mark vomited at the crime scene
This video is amazing
The medium ugly comment has me dead
I hope Irv isn't retiring, and he is just being celebrated as Refiner of the Quarter!
I agree with you regarding Irving being ex-military or intelligence agent and investigating/infiltrating Lumon!
That melon head isn’t Irving. Looks like Kier.
I want to see what that big figure in all black with horns was he looked like he was in the area where the baby goats were
The clock doesnt say 2:22 That's a reflection in a mirror, which means the clock actually says 9:37
I would love for that to be Dylan’s brother
What if Gemma is secretly working for the company? Lumons employee in the severed floor seem to be vulnerable in the outside. Would it be a far stretch to say they took an interest in Mark and he is a case study and they just faked Gemma death and they are testing him. Gemma might be severed, but the real Gemma is aware of study and uses her self to see if innie mark can recall or if severance is working long term.
11:01 Look in the window on the left side, dont know who that is but it could be Helly
The clock is mirrored though
Outty Mark wanted to leave Lumon though. How do we know that he wasn’t forced or that Inny Mark needed him to go back.
i like the way you think
RE: outie Mark staying with Lumon, what if Devon and the others told outie Mark, that innie mark said Gemma was alive? imo that would be enough to get Outie Mark to do a 180 on his desire to quit Lumon.
What about Helly in that board room with Cobel?!
Irving is one of the oldest employees with means he might be a older model of the chip in his brain. Older models mean he may needs to go to the reintegration room more then once.
That melon shot is seriously creepy. It looks like a flayed face.
We are seeing how it feels at the moment of conversion it’s always the same they just let us see the effects this time
Maybe Outie Mark gets the integration procedure and goes back to Lumon to find his wife with all of his memories intact.
The time is closer to 9:37 because we see it in the mirror
Fuck, I need to watch Season 1 already.
I watched season 1 a week before season 2 comes out.
Jealous? 😉
10:47 could it be Irving's retirement party?
Some bad assumptions.
Mark S is back at Lumon because his sister convinced outie Mark that his wife is alive. He’s not just going back because outie Mark doesn’t care.
Mark taking the ball doesn’t mean he’s defeated. He’s there trying to get Ms Casey out. It’s a long game he has to play slowly.
How do you know that’s an older version of Dylan?
I’m just talking about a tv show bro. I’m gonna need you to chill the fuck out.
Adding for the sake of argument : They’re celebrating Mark because they need to smooth things over with him and make him feel special in their weird Lumon way, even if it’s totally ineffective. I don’t think this is a grand experiment.
The missing poster is weird ~ if it was from Lumon they would have used a photo, right? It feels like it's something Irv or Innie Mark drew.
Wait.....so the new coworkers are replacements to Helly, Dylan and Irving???? So the only one who really comes back is Mark? This show is soooo confusingly Good!!!!
Maybe Mark is animated because part of a new intro
