    If they made this street legal would blow Jeep (Fiat) out of the water Jeep would go bankrupt. This is what a Jeep owner really wants myself included

    If you look online.. Mahindra told Jeep they wouldn't sell any Mahindra Jeeps in the U.S. 'automotive' market.. so.. they are selling this as a UTV. I'm willing to bet that with some tweaking, that 45mph limitation can be overcome easily, and with the addition of a windshield of some sort, and a 'borrowed' license plate from one of your jeeps.. you could be buzzing down the road in this thing in no time, and no one would be the wiser. Also, any place that allows UTV's on the roads, like small towns in Texas and Eastern Washington, for example, you could use this 'on the road'. As far as making it legal on the road everywhere, two words... 'CRASH TESTING'. This thing is basically a diesel willy's, and it probably won't even get close to passing today's safety standards for on road vehicles in the U.S. Toy for the rich? hmm... I don't know.. I know I'd buy one and make a few mods to use it on small town roads.. as an around town roustabout in inclement weather, with a soft top, and a windshield, especially in small rural towns, this thing would be epic.

    The top model "road legal" one comes at around 12k dollars in India. They are called Mahindra Thar. The stripped down ones were used by the military in limited numbers. Nowadays only off road enthusiasts use them. But they are a treat while off roading. And yeah, they have more "Jeep" DNA compared to the modern wranglers. They are simple and can be cheaply maintained and repaired with ease. Mahindra should rather sell the Thar instead of Roxor. Let the yanks modify it to their liking.

      Roxor is same as Thar. the reason why it is not street legal in USA is that it does not fulfil safety regulations of USA. So even if Thar is sold in USA it will also not be street legal in USA

  • @MegaRazzzz
    @MegaRazzzz 5 років тому +3

    7000 of these already sold in the USA as of now. They are looking to set up a 3rd plant to meet the demand. Mahindra is just testing the waters in the US with this machine. The plan for future expansion in the US in the coming years consists of more street legal vehicles based on the Scorpio and Bolero platforms.

    Without it being street legal...it will become nothing more than an upscale Polaris. It is a shame, too - because I would be the first to buy one if it was street legal. I don't want a full-size jeep, and this hits the spot in every respect except that one major strike against it. Just a novelty at this point.

      In TN you can get a class 1 ohv tag and you're street legal, I did my sxs. You just need turn signal, horn,mirrors, parking brake and tag light. cost $145 for the kit on amazon and 2hrs of my time to install, the dealer wanted $950 to do the same thing. lol

    The main thing it has over a Jeep, is it is as narrow as a Can Am Defender side by side. It is a true trail machine, something a Jeep is too wide to do.
    Being a Diesel engine, it should last much longer than a traditional side by side. Also, it is a bit longer for more leg room and back storage. I like it.

    Street legal should not be confused with freeway legal. In some states you can plate a golf cart. So for a hunting rig that might have to go on a country road occasionally, I'm sure it'll be just fine.

    Alright people, its not street legal because its marketed as a side by side not an SUV...rather carry all, there's no such registration as SUV.
    The cost on one of these is 1/2 of the cost of a new base model Jeep Wrangler.
    This is a bit updated version of the 1940's Willy's CJ3B, it is a Jeep.
    The 45mph limit is actually the original speed the Willy's would go...its all in the gearing.

    I just saw an entire truckload of these today parked for the evening. Got out and took pics as I've never heard of these before but they immediately caught my eye as they look EXACTLY like one of my old CJ-5's (or I should say CJ-7)These are bare bones. Most had half tops or 3/4 tops. Some had no top. All had cages with net doors/safari doors. I gotta say, 15k isn't a bad price. By the way, I bought my first new Jeep CJ-5 in 1978 for the whopping cost of $6,200. The only option's I added on were the 304 V8, the passenger seat, rag top and cigar lighter. They also came out with the option of having no rear tailgate that year and I went for that also as the spare was then rear mounted instead of side mounted.

    It’s funny how people are complaining about the price and it not being road legal here in the US. This thing is priced comparatively to many other side by sides in the States, and those aren’t street legal either. Where I live people drop 15k and up on these things all day long. I see some in the paper hitting 20k well equipped. Plus this thing has a freakin Diesel engine with a 5 speed manual and clutch on the floor!!!! I know they’ll be a big hit in the southern states.

    Why is everyone complaining about it not being street legal? Seems to me that's an issue with the place you live, I can drive a side by side, atv, dirt dirtbike etc wherever I want on the streets where I live. • @wildbill23c

      It'll never happen thanks to the bullshit safety feature requirements in today's vehicles. This is why you see so many older trucks back out on the road, people are fed up with all the electronic shit and want a vehicle that's going to get them where they're going without emptying their wallets in nonsense electronic failures and they want something they can open the hood on and actually fix themselves and when you open the hood they want to see the engine not a bunch of cheap ass plastic covering the engine and a bunch of wiring.

    • @Kawasaki1400
      @Kawasaki1400 6 років тому

      William Todd the reason why everybody is saying these won't sell at that price is their are way better options for that kind of money. Go to the Polaris or any otther well know company web site and take a look, the nicest things these jeeps offer is they look cool and they are diesel. Other more well known companies side by sides eather offer more suspension travel, locking diffs, higher ground clearance etc that makes them better suited for trail ridinging. If I was a betting man I'd say the upper crust of America won't even notice this product, they have the wealth to go to Yamaha or Polaris or any other well known brand and buy a name brand product with a proven off road side by side track record for reliability, warranty cust care and parts availability for a person who keeps this for more then a year or two. If they want to dominate this crowded segment they need something with lots of options and it has to be a price leader and it needs to be capable, after it makes a name for its self then the prices can start to creep north, but to make your first product so expensive compaired to everything else on the market nobody is going to buy this unproven off road buggy. This is only my point of view and my opinion.

    • @wildbill23c
      @wildbill23c 6 років тому

      Polaris doesn't offer anything even remotely close to what the Roxor is. None of the ATV/UTV brand companies offer anything like it.
      Have you looked at ATV/UTV warranties? Most are a year if you are lucky. Roxor is supposedly 2 years.
      Tons of options for the Roxor, all you need is a CJ3B. This is being marketed as a utility vehicle not a fly down a trail go kart which is what the RZR and many other UTV's have turned into. Even the Rangers are becoming more of a sports machine than utility.
      Really wish though that Roxor would offer many of the options in the configuration.
      I've had a few UTV's and a few ATV's, and hardly used the 4WD, and locking diff in any of them, found they did pretty dang good in 2WD or limited slip 4WD...I've had them out in some pretty nasty locations too, and was amazed where they would go in 2WD and just regular 4WD without locked diffs. The only UTV/ATV I had was a Yamaha Rhino and a Yamaha Grizzly that both had locked rear diffs all the time, I hated them both. The Polaris Ranger was a good compromise with the turf mode allowing an open rear differential for most work and even a lot of trail use.
      Would I buy a Roxor, maybe if I were rich, but for the prices of ATV's, UTV's, and this Roxor I'll keep my Bronco 2.

      Probably not ..we have jeeps here by Mahindra and the 2.5l diesel with 63 hp just gets us to 90 kmph if lucky which is 45mph. But the engine noise and vibration are horrific there. The things are notoriously underpowered. Great torque though. The common rail injected version is better and can reach around 70 mph I guess. But I don't think you buy something like this to cruise in the highway in the first place though!

    • @twistednemo
      @twistednemo 6 років тому +2

      SuperRazor47 Actually, the Thar DI can cross 100 kmph (62 miles per hour) by quite a margin but you have to wring its neck good. The CRDe with the 100 HP engine hits a top speed of 150 kmph (93 mph) without too much trouble. 45 mph (72 kilometres per hour) is too low. There is certainly a speed governor in the American version.

      @SuperRazor47 6 років тому

      FodderRev hmm.. I've never driven the crde actually..thank you for the info. I have reached 100 once on a Di engine though. Made me swear not to do it ever again actually 😂

    • @twistednemo
      @twistednemo 6 років тому +1

      SuperRazor47 Ha ha! Yeah, the DI is not comfortable at high speeds at all. That engine is only for low speed load movement. I have wanted one for quite some time because of its back to basics bare bones make. But after taking a ride (yet to drive it myself) in a post 2015 CRDe, I was quite impressed and felt that it can actually be a daily driver. I suggest you test drive one but make sure it is the post 2015 model with the plastic front bumper and modern interiors. Noise and vibes are fairly acceptable and it pulls very smoothly to higher speeds. I have a feeling you will hate the DI after that!

    During World War 2, Jeep gave mahindra the license to built jeep because US soldiers who bought willys jeep with them in Afganistan couldn't take them back to US. So they gave mahindra the license to make and sell these jeeps to common people. That's how first jeep came into India.

      Mahindra & Mahindra has obtained a perpetual license from Willys-Overland (presently a part of Chrysler) in 1952 to build and sell Jeeps in India by paying a royalty. As per the license, M&M are free to sell Jeeps in any country after 1988, but they can't use the Jeep name, Jeep model names and the iconic 7-slated Jeep grille.
