- This video features the TOP 10 best runway models of all time. The ladies presented in this video were selected based on their iconic walks, body of work and on stage personality. They have also been chosen based on their ability to adapt their walk following the designer they were modelling for, and the type of garments they were presenting.
On a final note, let’s all celebrate these iconic ladies and give them credit for their great contribution in the world of Style and Fashion History. Please do not get defensive about the ranking order of the models. They are all equally brilliant. I've seen dozens of these "Best Runway Models" lists on UA-cam but this is the first one I could almost be completely in agreement with. The other lists could be described as "here are a bunch of models that I'm fixated on so I'm going to claim they were the greatest" personal fantasies. You zeroed in with laser-like precision on the models who were always the most fascinating creatures on the runway while ignoring all other non-relevant aspects of their careers. You also provided me with the names of several models that I had always wanted to know but who don't get the recognition they deserve. My only disagreement was with your top pick - Jerry Hall. Although I liked her as a runway model, I wouldn't place her in my own top 30 or so of all time. For fascination value, plus variety, plus projecting an "attitude", I think Linda Evangelista outdid them all.

@@Jeff-do7bo it’s a good list in terms of who’s on it and the footage it shows. Don’t take it as final word. I disagree with it too in many respects. But that’s the opinion of whoever created it. And it’s not that bad (as bad as garbage- again, I think it’s actually a really good list). I’m grateful for the footage, and all of the walkers were good (though some were not to my taste).

Great list! Cool to see some rare footage. Karen and Yasmeen are my two favorites. Many of the girls push a bit too much. Yasmeen simply is that woman, backstage, and on the runway. Integrated intelligence, charisma, and performance. She elevated the art of runway modeling.

Naomi, Yasmeen, Karen, Sonia, Dalma...top 5 in that order (in my opinion) Naomi has the the lengthiest longevity out of all the models. She's still walking, strutting and twirling today and looking incredible while maintaining her unique style but also adapting to the new form of modeling and fitting in with the younger and newer models of today.
Karen Mulder is the definition of glamour and beauty. She makes everything looks luxury and expensive. Best supermodel. But then again Supermodel Era in the 90s has the best models with Gisele to be the last supermodel. After Gisele everyone just calls everyone supermodel but they’re far far away from these models. They’re more of super celeb than supermodels.

That is a fair and well thought out top 10. Using a lot of 80s girls that get overlooked. Gurmit is underrated for sure and it's good to see her recognised. Karen always delivers, she is 50s hollywood sensuality and panache. Should always be in any top10. Interesting to see Sonia Cole above Yasmeen, I think that Sonia is very 80s to me and she has a great double turn. OK let's talk about why Yasmeen should be always in any top3 of all time and why she takes 1 in my eyes. Its rare to have a medium to fast walker that glides and not strut or stomp on the runway. She walks effortlessly. It's refined, regal but sexy. So hard to be all 3. Yasmeen is also double jointed so she can swing her hips wider than any other model. I would put her always 1. Jerry Hall is theatrical, uses her hair a lot. I also rate Linda evanelista early 90s cause her face captivates you. Nadja A with her distinctive android like walk. I'm so happy you didn't include anybody after 2000. The walks completely changed to fast annoying stomping.
Thank you for such a great constructive comment. I do agree with you. Yasmeen was a dream to watch. Her hip movement is legendary. She drifts effortlessly through the runway. An unequalled walk. Sonia Cole was selected 2nd due to her technique (look at the hand and finger position for instance). In addition to that, her walk is as smooth as melting butter. As if she was glided by a gentle evening breeze. Also, her continuous gazing at the public creates a direct contact between haute couture and the crowd. When it comes to Jerry Hall, she is definitely a performer... A catwalk performer. We shouldn't forget though that she is also a classically trained model who can present the most prestigious couture garments in a sophisticated and subtle way (Her participation in Dior Haute Couture Fall 1993, for example). Unfortunately, I couldn't find good quality footage of her "classical" runway moments, because most of them were in the 70s and 80s. Finally, I'm really glad you enjoyed this video ! No, thank you for making time to do this. Yes I can see Sonia is a very considerate walker and takes time to really show the clothes off to the audience. She has nuances. Jerry has a lot of presence, her thick blonde hair is amazing. I agree she makes it into a performance. Yasmeen has iconic moments in the golden age of early 90s supermodel era...the versace black dress walk and the way she flings the jacket off her arm in versace aw91. So exciting and jaw dropping in her prime. The top3 are all so different from each other technique wise and personality. And that's what makes them worthy.

Glad to see Katoucha get some love. Her walk was more classically 50s-60s in style, but she did it so effortlessly and really sold the garments. It’s very different from the stomping modern supermodel walk, but very cool too.

This list absolutely needed to have Linda Evangelista. She had the strongest walk for the 80's.Yasmeen and Jerry Hall need to switch places.
Linda Evangelista was stronger in photos than catwalk. Her walk was ok but nothing special. Saying she was the best walk of the 80s is a bit exaggerated imo. Remember girls like Kirat, Ines, Amalia and Mounia who were catwalk queens in the 80s and who would outstage Linda and her walk, eventhough Linda later got all the fame thanks to Gianni Versace. As for Jerry Hall and Yasmeen Ghauri, I think they both deserve top 1. True divas ❤

supreme catwalker like Ana Bayle is not featured, whom the New York Times coined the Ana Bayle walk started it all in the 80's. Ana, Dalma and Iman are the trinity models of her time. The 90's no one can beat Yasmeen Ghauri my all time favorite and Naomi.
Karen Mulder is just stunning, she is my dream woman. she is equal to Cindy in beauty, should have had better recognition.
This is what I love. Everybody has their opinions and have their favorites. No need to argue or fight the person if you don't believe their rankings. To each its own. I personally wouldn't put Jerry Hall as my #1 but that is Ok. All the models on this list are all fabulous runway models.

Glad you like it ! Unfortunately this list being a top 10, it will definitely be missing major names like Pat Cleveland, Anne Fiona, Anna Bayle, Amalia Vairelli etc.... They are definitely runway superstars and don't need to be included in a list to confirm the legends that they are. As for Ines de la Fressange, I agree, she had lots of personality on the runway but IMO, she limited her perspectives by only working for Chanel. She might have walked for other designers before Chanel, but everyone seems to forget that due to the impact of her work at Chanel. This is why we didn't include her in this list. Her exclusive partnership with Chanel is like a golden cage. On one hand, it made her the legend that she is today in the collective memory. On the other hand, its like she never worked for anyone else and she never really recovered from this perception afterwards.
I cannot believe IMAN was not on this list. The fact that Naomi Campbell is listed at #8 is criminal. IJS

Wow. Great selection of runway models though I wouldn't necessarily call everyone in that list the best of all time. Clearly the list is more focused on the 80s and 90s models, which was a nostalgic time period where walks were elegant, graceful and feminine, filled with those twirls, poses that display individual personality, and the dragging and unzipping of clothing to demonstrate the full capacity of the collection. While this walk may be considered outdated, they are still timeless in the sense that they still look good. Today's runway is all about being fast and fierce. Everything is rushed. Models carry a resting bitch face to try to look fierce or look like zombies with a blank expression. It's less about the models and more about the clothes, which honestly it should be. Shows are a lot shorter, with more models, and less outfit changes. More designers are presented each fashion week, hence shows need to be shorter and to the point, in order for fashion critics and potential buyers to attend as many fashion shows as possible. But the late 90s, 2000s, and 2010s did produce some wonderful strutters in the runway. I wouldn't dismiss them simply due to the nostalgic factor of the 80s and 90s. But I would add Anna Bayle, Carla Bruni and Angelika Kallio in that list. They were always great walkers among their generation. According to an industry expert named Viviane Blassel, who is the illustrious French television fashion journalist who has filmed lots of runway shows in Paris and has seen at least 100 thousand fashion shows, the greatest runway model of all time is Cara Bruni. She said it in Loic Prigent’s video “HOW TO WALK LIKE A SUPERMODEL? By Loic Prigent” (link is here ua-cam.com/video/p9sTq8vDmH8/v-deo.html, check to minute 13:00). Anyway, the conversation went something like this,
Loic: Who is the best runway model of all time?
Viviane: Carla Bruni!
Loic: Is it Carla Bruni?
Viviane: She is the one who works most intelligently with the clothes. When we filmed her…I mean, she immediately told the story of a dress. She understood how to display the dress for the cameras.

Viviane: I can’t show you!
Loic: The way she turns herself?

I agree that she was a wonderful runway model. She personified the attitude of the collection so well. She could be fierce and sensual like in the 1992 Fall S&M collection of Versace, playful and saccharine like in the 1994 Fall collection of Blumarine, elegant like a Greek goddess like in the the 1992 Spring/Summer collection of Oscar de la Renta, sophisticated and high society like in the Dior shows of Gianfranco Ferre, calm and demure like in the Giorgio Armani runways, and flirty and cute like a coquette like in the Chanel shows. She was a model who made you believe she loved playing dress up, and being dolled up in the world of fashion. She presented that fantasy quite well.

Great selection!!!! Thanks God no exagerated stompers of the 2000´s like Mariacarla or even Gisele. Pure class here!! I think I understand why you ranked Naomi in that place...her walk is amazing but she hardly ever adapt it according to the clothes. It´s always the same moves and the same attitude unlike Sonia Cole or Karen Mulder. I disagree a little on putting Jerry in 1st place as she normally walked for Mugler shows or others where models should be more theatrical. I´d like to see her walking for a "pret a porter" show in order to see her "a little more normal" walk. I would say that Sonia Cole should be 1st place as she even change her face expressions with each different walk, she poses, stares at the crowd, etc. But that´s my opinion. And I think you completely forgot Shalom Harlow.... she was a "walking chameleon". She could be grunge, hippie, classy, sophisticated, elegant, womanish, childish, etc.

Naomi is definitely one of the best. A household name. A classic value. And this is why she is in our listing of the top 10 best runway models of ALL TIME. However, she is ranked in TOP 8 because her walk seems to be the same in every show. It is for sure her signature walk, but she doesn't adapt it based on the clothes she is presenting (Couture / RTW ; Young and hip / Ladylike / Femme fatale). Notice that the other names listed in this video, who are iconic in their own right, have a signature walk, that they however adapt based on what they are presenting. Anyway, this is your opinion and I respect it. Naomi is a true icon ! Much Love :)
Golden Age naomi is #1 period
I love naomi's walk it's a sassy strut arching her back a lot at the turn but she has one major flaw. And that's her wrists and hands. She has totally forgotten about them. Her wrists are loose and her hands flop around in an ungainly manner. She needs to shape them. So no she is definately never going to be number 1.
