- First time on the porch. No creaking sounds, so that's good. She seems very interested in visiting inside but that'll have to wait. Indefinitely.
Still a gorgeous plus-size. Her cubs are going to be humongous...

Incredibly docile around you. Has to know you and have been there before.
A black bear family in the 70s would hang around our porch and sit there for my father to bring out leftovers, lobster shells, dog food, and of course go after any bird feeders we had. They seemed pretty tame, but also curious so they sniffed around. Some of our barn cats were friendly and hovered with them.
That must have been a wonderful experience, such a beautiful way to grow up!
Many years ago I was fortunate to live in a small camp cabin colony in the woods. The original owners had rescued a wounded bear cub and then returned her to the woods years before.
When she grew up she would bring her cubs to visit, then those cubs brought their cubs, and so on, down through the years.
The cubs would play with our pets, never hurting them, we never fed the bears and treated them with respect, and they respected us. No one ever got hurt (even when I backed into one of the yearlings when I was taking the dogs out for a walk one evening).
He just needed somewhere to catch his breath. Lord, he’s huge!😊❤

Oh Patrick she really likes you. Such trust. Up close she has such animation and almost a baby teddy bear face. I think she planned this meeting today. Poppy is one BIG bear.
That bear had no intention of harming anyone.
It sat down and it felt like to me if it wasn't going to get any seeds it was looking for someone to give it a good rubb.
What a good bear, she didnt even hiss at you when you shook he chair at her and gave her a telling of, just walked down the stairs looking for somewhere cool to rest up.

Wow, Poppy is one big bear, she seemed to really be suffering from the heat! It looked like she was looking for a cool spot to rest (in your house, in front of the tv, with air conditioning going full blast).
She did act as if she might be used to visiting vacation cabins in the woods, and she wanted to be invited in to your house for sweet tea and a snack.
Wondering if she had had an ear tag in the past?
She is definitely a plus size kind of gal. She must be one of the cubs and seems comfortable there. I can’t imagine wearing that fur coat in this heat.
She’s Simone’s daughter. If he wanted to, Patrick could give her a hug.

Poppy is one big, beautiful, bear, who was surely feeling the heat. And, what's better than a rest on Patrick's porch...or under it. Though, watching Poppy paw your front door, makes me believe she's been in people's houses or garages before, and is likely eating people food and/or dog food.

Well, today was the big day. After numerous drive-by’s at the famous Patrick’s Carolina Goodtime Porch, Bear Poppy mustered up enough courage to come up and see what all the Bear Fuss is about. While there were no nom-noms to be had, she certainly seemed to make herself quite comfortable on your porch… even plopped down with her back turned to you. That’s some Bear Trust for ya. I thought you set boundaries like a pro, and she didn’t get reactive about it. A very nice visit from what looks like a very sweet Bear Lady. ❤️

Bear Poppy saw in the summer edition of the American Traveling Bear Guide (ATBG), that Uncle Patrick's house has cold air-conditioning and a freezer filled with ice cream. 😂

And no cracking or crashing sounds either! LOL! I just wonder how Poppy's so heavy; is someone feeding her buttered popcorn & ice cream cones somewhere? I wouldn't worry but she's breathing pretty heavily and it can't be fun to have those extra lbs in the heat. She's such a good bear. She seemed to know ascent to the railings wasn't a good idea, and when you warned her away from the door, she took it in good grace - no little fits of pique! I really do just wanna reach out & hug her!!! Thanks so much for sharing her with us, Patrick! ❤🐻
