Unfortunately, in the UK they're shooting Carrion Crows and Magpies. This is either for fun or because they prey on birds chicks like Curlews, which are now rare because farmers are destroying their natural habitat. I had a Hooded Crow fledgling for 2 days called Danny. He was so sweet and very intelligent. The Scottish SPCA ended up taking him away because he was very underweight and it's illegal to keep a wild animal as a pet in Scotland. I was really upset that he had to go. Those are some beautiful and smart birds you got there and you do a wonderful job of caring for them.
Uhg okay when I worked in a pet store we had this person who BOASTED about the fact that their African Grey would suck on whiskey with them?? And my boss and I were just like “No????? That’s???? Bad????” And I’ll always remember that because there are people who actually think birds drinking alcohol is funny 😤😤
Very informative video. I absolutely ADORE crows, so now I know what not to feed them. We have 2 bird feeders in our backyard, a lot of finches, blue jays and others visit our feeder.
thanks for this one. i feed local corvids and this was very helpful. ive stayed on the VERY safe side for treats and this helped me tremendously. you both are such a wealth of information ..wishes for a speedy recovery dennis..!
You two have a warm, lovely camera presence. Thanks for the video. I've just discovered crows love cheese. They will refuse food they normally eat completely, awaiting cheese instead. Remarkable creatures.
I have a pet crow, found her as a fledgling, seriously injured 3 years ago. With her survival (which amazed me), I had high hopes of releasing her, but her injuries said otherwise. Her favourite food is cooked baby beans. She will tear open the bean to eat the yummy bean in the middle and then gobble down the rest. This past weekend, she flew on her own for the first time properly, over the fence and down the road (120 feet, about 4-5 foot off the ground). I was shocked she merrily trotted on back to the gate and back to her cage. Her relatives come to visit still, and will often sit in the tree nearest her to 'talk'. She is also best friends with the dog (maltese terrier), grabbing his tail as the dog runs about, going for a free ride. Our Crow teases the dog with food, and if she really wants the dogs attention, she will feed the dog and have him begging! She also imitates his bark (seriously bad LOL) and when the dog is on alert, so is the crow - dog barks, crow barks. When the Crow baths (often, as obviously being Aussie, hot climate) she splashes water at the dog, to get him all excited on purpose. When the crow spies a cat, she cries like a baby! I have learned all of her varying cries, and one particular will have me running to see what is wrong. She is an amazing pet, and a beautiful creature, but I feel sad she will never have a life with her family, and I often feel the longing in her cries and calls, of wanting freedom. thank you for your lovely video, made me smile
After hearing the salt thing, I jumped up and sprinted out the door to remove the rice I salted (my dinner) for my wild crow friend. Lucky for us I think she is in her nest for the night. Thank you, I don’t want to hurt my new friend. She might get mad and quit following me everywhere. Lol. 🙏
I do not feed the birds but it is good to know what not to feed them just incase they find something like that left out or if you see someone about to feed them. We leave water and have a huge amazing garden that has an abundance of gurbs and insects that attract maggies and parrots of all kinds. But we love the magpies and their calming yoddles. Lots of fruit trees aswell ❤ from 🇦🇺
I have crows around and usually throw food on my roof for them , there are 4 . Anyway one of the crows ( the largest one) left me a bottle cap last year as a gift . I was so touched and have the cap on my window seal . Lol. Love your channel !
Thanks so much for this video! I'm part of a crow lovers' group on Facebook called "For the Love of Crows," and was looking everywhere for a list of what not to feed them for both myself, and a man in England who, like me, also feeds ones who live near him, but couldn't find it anywhere! There are lots of lists of what you can feed crows, bit nothing about what you can't feed them, and when the common belief is that crow's can eat anything when the truth is that there are things that are outright lethal to them that many people would think are fine (several items in that list, such as mushrooms, for instance, surprised me!) such a belief can be outright deadly to them! So, this video is very much appreciated! You certainly have a new subscriber! I'm looking forward to you guys coming out with more!🖤
I live in a huge city where we are blessed with so many very beautiful healthy crows ( ours are the hooded crows ) They enjoy being fed but are like all corvids ..scavengers .They fly to meet me and sit with me as very friendly wild birds ...Peanuts in shells is our bond ----*
Thank you for sharing this vital information! Please, can you make such educational video's about feeding ducks (many people are feeding bread wich they cannot digest) Dogs often get prepared (bbq) meat (salt, spices, herbs, sugar) Cats often get conserved fish (tunafish in salt water, oil, tomato ketchup (sugar!), etc) Forgive me my deplorable English, I'm just a dumb old Dutchman, born and raised in the swamps of the Netherlands 🇳🇱 😁
Thanks guys for all the info on what to feed or NOT feed a bird. I didn't know some of these things so it's a very practical and informative video...and I just heard one of the birds make funny sounds.... thanks for great info and Dennis you take care of yourself and get rid of that cold. Thanks Kullike on all your research and study in taking care of these wonderful birds.........loved it. pat
Hi again guys, Dennis, I hope your cold gets better quickly! Really enjoyed this video, very informative! I learned several very important things from this! I offer my wild crows who visit my backyard daily my leftovers we don't eat versus throwing them away. Always thought it was ok because I observe them eating at trash bins at job sites of future homes we build where I work & in my area. I've always thought that them, grackles, & blackbirds in the city eat whatever because it's an easy meal when they're hungry not because they prefer the food necessarily or it's good for them at all. I put out leftover sugar free chocolate brownies I made before I left for a week vacation to not let them go to waste back in March. I broke them up into small very small pieces. After I returned, other food I offered was gone but no birds or squirrels touched the brownies. That's amazing & a relief that they have a guy instinct somehow that chocolate is bad for them. Other than dogs I hadn't thought about other animals shouldn't have it too, but it makes sense. I bet there's few animals that would then. Very surprising no idea they shouldn't eat avacado, onions, tomatoes or beans. Again, i've read crows will eat almost everything & I offer my leftovers to them versus just throwing them away. I've given them leftover fajita items that constitute of all those things & again they didn't eat them & now I know why! Their instinct was kicking in not too! I won't be giving them these items any longer. thank you again for the very informative video!
A lot of things can be dangerous depending on the amount digested, in relation to an animals body weight. And given the fact a birds bones are hollow and they are so lightweight, it doesn't take much to be possible lethal to a bird.....So better not take any risk..
Thank you for updating what not to give the birds eat, it is important that the birds should feel good. And if you do not know for sure, it is better that you check it out properly as Kullike said. We have always read what the different birds eat where we live. Hugs. Britt o Gunnar.
Thanks. I just started feeding a feral crow some peanuts! With salt and vinegar! Hopefully, it was not enough to do harm. Thanks for the warning. You guys are lovely.
My crow friends came to visit me (I wasn't expecting them), and I didn't have any of my typical kibble or unsalted peanuts with me (I knew about salt), so I gave them some crumbs of peanut butter cookies I had had for a while. That was before I realized that chocolate was extremely bad for them! 😰 I immediately looked into it, and got rid of the crumbs as soon as I could. It didn't really look like they touched them all that much, so I'm really hoping that they don't get deathly ill. I feel so stupid... But I will be keeping an eye on them over the next few days as best I can, hoping that I don't see any signs. They seemed fine when I saw them later on in the day, so I'm hoping and praying that they stay that way. I would never forgive myself if I killed my friends. Even by accident.
Thank ypu guys! Nearly everywhere else I looked for this info was very vague. Pretty much like crows are omnivores they eat anything. I know that they can/will eat pretty much anything, but I was specifically looking for the main things to avoid. Like you guys mentioned it's mostly obvious stuff you wouldn't feed the birds anyway but it's good to know.I had a family visiting my old house it took me about a year to get their attention and get them to start stopping by. we made friends over about 15 months then I had to move😢 I was hoping the old family would follow us to the new house but no such luck. I did however make friends with a family near my new house within the first week! Thank you guys again!
Thanks for your great comment about making friends with the neighborhood crows. We know that crows will eat all kinds of things but since we look after our birds 24/7, we like to give them the best food we can.
Hope you’re feeling better soon😻:)) great video Dennis all the birds 🦅 are beautiful, enjoyed it very much....wishing all of you a great weekend, greetings from warm Las Vegas 😎🌴
My crow really likes milk chocolate although I’ve never gave her much , I’m definitely not letting her have anymore… she’s also fond of baked beans but that’s stopping also … thanks for the video. My crow loves garden peas… she’s extremely fond of them 😊
Great video as always. I wish all pet owners were like you two♥️. You both are so responsible and loving with your pets, it so heartwarming to see!! 🙏🏼 🤗 🤗.
Well I didn't know about the avocado and tomato. Not that I have ever fed my birds them anyway. You can never have too much information on caring for our feathered babies 😊 Thanks for the info 😃
Thanks a lot, I've been feeding my neighbourhood birds over the winter months here in the Uk when it was freezing and dark and gale force winds and rain and snow during 16 hour long dark black nights I was there in the morning and sometimes afternoon before sunset to make sure there was some food out for all of them especially the crows and magpies because most people forget about them. Now it's spring we had the equinox and I wasn't sure whether I should stop or continue then I was late for a couple of days then my neighbourhood crows came to sit on my roof and called me asking me what happened? I ran out of food but I ended up improvising with potatoes and liver I had left in my freezer. I didn't know about the onions and thanks for the info about the salt. I know my crows were scavenging from chips left behind from cars late at night and from the supermarket bins before I decided to adopt them. I can see their feathers have brown and white markings from mineral and protein deficiency. I agree about the peas also. I tried to give my neighbourhood birds and the swans on the river peas, they didn't like them, even when some wildlife charities in the UK told people to give birds peas instead of bread, they didn't like it at all. I give all my birds, swans, ducks, geese, pigeons, small birds, corvids, bread, they all like it, but my corvids like chopped peanuts and raisins, mild cheddar cheese, boiled eggs, chopped sausage, and potatoes most of all and they are happy. Thanks for your videos and for caring about your birds. I read in captivity with good care corvids can live up to 50+ years whereas in the wild they often last only 2 years so you are really extending their lives. ✌🙏🕊
I have old crabapple trees the Crows and Ravens Feast on .I wonder how they navigate the apple seeds in the wild . I would assume the Mother and father birds teach the Ravens and crows not to eat them. This is very good to know . To feed the Crows and ravens who come on my property...I buy chicken gizzards livers and hearts from a free range chicken farm that produces "100 % Natural" to call something it is cost a fortune in the paperwork so our local small family farmers say Natural and GMO-free. I give the Crows and Raven food 3 times a week! They are super smart ...it is like they have an appointment. Thanks so much for these tips I find them very informative!!!
caffeeine is also poision for people, I got a horrible Heart Problem from it when I was a teenager! Glad I stayed alive! Shocolate is also bad for all Animals! Sadly I could not understand everything cause it seems Google disabled captiones, I was alwyais listening and reading to understand! One question! I give the Parrows Bread Crumbs from left over little Bread, they like it alot, is this ok? thanks for the Video and all the work you do! Oh and sweet Sammy he called and looked, he really needs attention, I was glad that you Denis talked to him, he needs you! 😊
I raised two baby crows as a child. My dream is to have one again...but it will have to be the will of the universe ...I wait hopefully, sending my love to my crow friends everywhere. ♥️♥️♥️
I love your videos, I watch for them constantly. They make me happy and inform me. I am in a rural spot in Ontario and I feed my crows every morning. I started out in the winter a few years back because my father and I wondered how crows in our area got any food other than ripping open garbage bags on garbage day, they must have been starving! I feed them chicken breast every morning and peanuts that I buy for the Blue Jays, plus cracked corn. It used to be that they only looked for the food in the snowy winter but now they are here every morning in decent weather, lol! They especially love prime rib and it's fat in the winter, I guess it's like a suet thing. A couple of days ago I accidently slept in by 2 hours and I rushed out with my crow treats. My sweety Jim was waiting in a tree across the road for his breakfast. I felt so guilty. Jim is a crow who was not part of our regular gang of about eight which has grown, but I think he may have come from the city, lol. He liked our bird feeders which the rural crows ignored and likes to hang around. He sits in a tree behind my bedroom window and caws when he wants me to know he's there. So I run out with peanuts and he's happy. Anyways, great video, I love your channel and how you love your birds!!
Thanks for watching, Lisa, and for your kind and very interesting comment! Here in Saskatchewan we do not have crows in winter, they fly south to the States. Every spring it is so exciting here to be waiting for the first crows arrival! These first caws are a true sign of spring!
Hello, I love your videos and your channel, they brighten my day in a terrible world. Anyway I've been working with the neighbourhood magpies, and I guess now some ravens, Ever since the magpies asked me for water during last summers drought here I've sort of been bonding with them slowly, at first I fed them bread, but I know bread is terrible for birds and are known to cause angel wing etc in ducks, so I thought well they're carrion and sort of oppertunistic eaters, you say don't feed em processed foods, I've been feeding my friends cat food(not the cheapest kind with lots of rice), would you say this is harmful? Theres not really a lot of information about this stuff, much apreciated if you have the time to answer me. And you guys have a wonderful family. - Best Regards.
Cat food is ok, we also feed our birds cat food. We have a feeding video on our channel that you might like! There we show everything we feed our birds!
I had a pigeon pet. I used to cook. She was sitting on my shoulder . From all these she occasionally ate onion and garlic. She was healthy. But l know better now. Thanks a lot.
I live in Palo Alto. I am worried about crows because everyone is home due to shelter in place. I have no idea how they drink water. I often see them drinking water from the water fountains. Water fountains have been closed.
Thanks for the video, it’s helpful for me in terms of feeding my garden crows and magpies. Is it peach whose bill has got quite long? How do you manage their bills if they get long? Can you trim them?
Yes, Peach is the only one who doesn't know how to trim his beak. We have been taking him to the vet every now and then for that reason. Eventually, we will try to trim it for him.
LOVE THE CROWS AND MAGPIES. THEY ARE SO CUTE AND SMART. THANKS FOR THE GOOD ADVICE ON WHAT NOT TO FEED YOUR BIRDS. LOVE YOUR VIDEOS. KALISPELL, MT. 5/6/19
Haha! With a wet cloth! Actually, their poop is very predictable. It only happens under the perch where they are sitting, so we put newspapers there. They never poop on us when they are on our lap for a petting session!
I have a question, maybe it’s a simple answer but I’m curious. How do you tell the crows apart from each other? Obviously if one is missing tail feathers or wing feathers I can see you knowing which one it is, but healthy crows look just like each other don’t they? Just wondering, love your pets and videos. 💕
Probably the same way that good farmers tell their cattle apart from each other. They have different personalities so even if they look similar their behaviour will be slightly different.
I've always read that chocolate is very bad for birds, but I also once read this Japanese corvid expert's book saying that he tracked and observed the same crows for a while and saw them eating chocolate bread on multiple occasions. They seemed fine afterwards. I wonder what's going on there... That being said, I would still never give my crow chocolate. Not taking any chances.
i enabled captions on settings but it does not work on your video, i kno in the last video it would work so i could read and understand what you are saying! am totally losed here! help!
Good:
1. Cuttlebone
2. Cooked rice (no added salt)

Bad:
1. Chocolate
2. Apple seeds (contain cyanide)
3. Avacado
4. Onions (*or garlic, contain sulphur)
5. Alcohol (it should be obvious but, be careful...)
6. Mushrooms - no mushrooms.
7. Salt (*causes kidney damage)
8. Caffeine (*again it should be obits obvious but, be careful)
9. Beans or legumes

They do like to put their food in water.
Apple seeds I would have never guessed thanks for the info
You bet!
Well I didn't know about the avocado and tomato. Not that I have ever fed my birds them anyway. You can never have too much information on caring for our feathered babies 😊 Thanks for the info 😃
Hi, good to see you all again. Bless !
You too!
I've never rescued crows and maggies 🤗
Thanks for the advices !!
I love you so much guys, God bless your little family ❤️🕊️🕊️🕊️❤️
Thanks for your kind comment!
Nice birds 👍🙂😎
Thank you for looking after your local crows.
get well soon, i recently got very sick myself. wishing you the best friends,
I have old crabapple trees the Crows and Ravens Feast on .I wonder how they navigate the apple seeds in the wild .
Great video, now we know what we can give the birds in our garden! Fáelán and Kiyew send kisses!🐶🐺💋🙋
Thank you very much!
A request, could you post more videos of your birds on a trip to the lake/beach....so much fun!!
Thank you for sharing this video.
Love crows feed them all the time being a butcher meat trimmings they can't get enough of em great video
Thanks
Good tips.......thx
caffeeine is also poision for people, I got a horrible Heart Problem from it when I was a teenager! 😊
I wish you fast recovering Denis, you got a Cold?
I am sure a little bread crumbs is ok. If you give birds bread, it is best if it is organic sprouted whole grain bread with lots of seeds.
@@chv72 thank you.
I raised two baby crows as a child. My dream is to have one again...but it will have to be the will of the universe ...I wait hopefully, sending my love to my crow friends everywhere. ♥️♥️♥️
Great information! Feel better!
Thanks, Janice!
A lot of people feed wild corrida bread but I was told that bread is not good because it’s empty calories and they’ll think they’re full
I think if bread is whole grain, organic and full of nutritious seeds, it should be ok. It;s the white bread that is not good.
Very informative video.
Thanks for sharing
thank you for info and beautiful video
What about grapes 🍇 u know fruit can thay eat that?.
Grapes should be ok in moderation. They have lots of sugar, though. I don't give our birds grapes, just in case.
Crows are known to be smart birds.
That's putting it lightly.
Thank you for sharing..
WOW! Very interesting!
Glad to hear that!
Very informative. Thanks for the information!
@@chv72 Thank you for taking time out to answer me, watched it, have a brilliant weekend!
Thanks for the reply. That’s interesting the others know how but he doesn’t! Funny boy 😊
LOVE THE CROWS AND MAGPIES. THEY ARE SO CUTE AND SMART. THANKS FOR THE GOOD ADVICE ON WHAT NOT TO FEED YOUR BIRDS. LOVE YOUR VIDEOS. KALISPELL, MT. 5/6/19
Great and informative video, thank you for posting this. While on the subject, how do you feel about offering corvids dry supermarket cat food?
Glad you enjoyed it! We give them soaked kitten kibble.
I came for the birds and stayed for the accents.
Can u recommend a might treatment please.
Very helpful! Thank you
Happy to hear.
Thanks for the information. Ironically it followed an ad for Hershey's chocolate
Interesting!
How do you manage poops of these birds?
Haha! With a wet cloth! Actually, their poop is very predictable. It only happens under the perch where they are sitting, so we put newspapers there. They never poop on us when they are on our lap for a petting session!
I LOVE THIS CHANNEL
As a crow I approve this message
I have a question, maybe it’s a simple answer but I’m curious. How do you tell the crows apart from each other? Obviously if one is missing tail feathers or wing feathers I can see you knowing which one it is, but healthy crows look just like each other don’t they? Just wondering, love your pets and videos. 💕
Probably the same way that good farmers tell their cattle apart from each other. They have different personalities so even if they look similar their behaviour will be slightly different.
They all look and sound and even behave very different! :-)
RpetsAndUs , thanks, I was just wondering how you did that. 👍🏼
We ourselves also eat things that are not good for us. The harm isn't obvious right away.
i enabled captions on settings but it does not work on your video, i kno in the last video it would work so i could read and understand what you are saying! am totally losed here! help!
Not sure why the captions wouldn't work but if you have any questions, you can always ask us!
Thanks for the info. I feed my local crows and Magpies and want to feed them the best diet. 👍💖
That's great!
Can you do what you should feed to crow
Watch the last 20 seconds of the video and you will see two end screens pop up and one of them is a feeding video.
،just very interesting thank you a lot .
Thanks for watching and for your kind comment!
I adore Crows! They are smart as a whip! They see all!
Cool......
Glad you liked it, Greg!
Hiii can I ask you what do baby crows eat?
Which do you find easier; the crows or the magpie? Just curious.
Bloody marvellous
