  • 1st visit to New Cross on the Southeastern Main Line and the terminus of London Overground's East London Line
Featuring services from Southeastern and London Overground
On the day of filming there was disruption to services towards Dartford and Orpington due to a fault with the signalling system near Hither Green.
New Cross first opened in 1850 as New Cross & Naval School by the original Southeastern Railway (SER) which was renamed to todays name in 1854
According to both the SER as well as the London Brighton & South Coast Railway was that their station names did cause some confusion between the two however it wasn't until 1923 when the SER station name remained and the LBSCR station was renamed New Cross Gate.
The East London Railway began running in December 1869 to the LBSCR station of New Cross not the SERs station however in 1880 was when ELR services began running to the SER station of New Cross which loco services began at Addiscombe and ran to Liverpool Street on the GER however all ELR workings were cut back to New Cross (SER) in June 1911.
Electric services of the ELR began 2 years later in 1913 although the ELR was owned by the Metropolitan Railway which ran from New Cross to Kensington Addison Road via Kings Cross
Goods trains continued to run on the East London Line until 1962
The station was rebuilt in the 1970s which resulted the platforms on the fast lines being taken out of use although the present station buildings dating from 1985.
At one time there had been a proposal to build the Fleet Line as Phase 2 and 3 with New Cross being the penultimate stop and eventually would have terminated at Lewisham however due to lack of funds it was never built
It wouldn't be until May 1979 when the Fleet Line renamed Jubilee Line in 1977 began running from Charing Cross to Stanmore however since November 1999 all Jubilee Line services now run to and from Stratford to Stanmore.
Today at New Cross there are 4 platforms with the Bay Platform D since 2010 now used by London Overground services to and from Dalston Junction
Platforms A - C are used by Southeastern services to and from London Charing Cross and London Cannon Street to Orpington and Slade Green and a few workings to Dartford via Lewisham and Hither Green respectively
Mixture of Class 465s and 466s as well as recently acquired Class 707s from South Western Railway known as 707 City Beams provide most of the Metro workings as well as the Class 376 Capitalstars.
At the time of filming the Class 376 Capitalstars are due to undergo a major refurbishment according to Southeastern whilst procurement for new rolling stock to replace the 30 year old Class 465s and 466s are ongoing although replacement is not expected until 2027 to 2028 at the earliest.
The Class 375 Electrostars that provide services in and out of London Charing Cross to Ramsgate via Canterbury West, Dover Priory via Folkestone Central as well as Hastings that run non stop through here along with other services.
Even for a station like New Cross whilst looks simple on appearance however with the ongoing traffic its not suprising that it can inevitably become busy very quickly.

    19:42 Ooh, a 12-carriage triple-headed Hitachi Southeastern Class 465! That's rare. I prefer the triple-headed Hitachi Class 465s rather than the double-headed and single-headed. And I wish there will be a triple-headed Metro-Cammell Class 465…
