In San Francisco in the 80's the city finally allowed hot dog vendors on the street. Within a year they were all gone because the city killed them off with regulations, permits, fees, etc. I know there's probably a few food trucks there but the same problem.

If prices are too high you make fewer sales. If prices lower you make more sales. Some money is better than no money. Sales from volume make a difference also. If you own a business, you would understand. If not, start a business, and you will see first hand.

No one should be allowed to rent out a permit. We either have them to protect consumers and allow for fair competition or we should not have them at all. I for one do not like them, at all, but I can understand why we have them and there may be a better way to handle businesses than permits I just do not know what that is currently, but either way if we are going to have them then they need to be relatively easy, cheap, and not time-consuming to obtain.
Man here in Mexico I haven't seen a hotdog cart in years, besides they are cheap, a dólar for water and another for the hotdog, the most expensive I have seen was 3 dollars at a fancy park cart
