      Yoyo! Can I ask what kinda numbers you get per conversion during the learning phase? Mine was at $2.21, which is nuts obviously. Feel like that would be a valuable piece of info for people so that they don't go turning off their campaigns during the learning phase because the starting cost is too high.

    Oh, did most of these, too. Our Facebook ad manager does not show "learning phase," so I had no idea this was even a thing. I was changing everything all at once: budget, creatives, audiences, countries. Yeah, very hard to be patient.
    Probably another mistake not mentioned is not ignoring day-to-day fluctuations. With our last campaign, Monday's were just terrible, for some reason. I tend to pause ad sets if they get up close to $1 and then turn them back on the next day. I'm not sure if that's good or bad, but I don't want to waste the rest of my daily budget on an ad set having a bad day when another one is doing well. It's seems like each day, they "start over" and one will do better than the others one day and a different will do better then next day. I've had ones that were doing $.18 one day go up to $.85 the next and then go back down to $.23 the next day. I haven't been seeing Facebook do any "magic" once an ad set reaches 50 conversions, so I still don't trust it to actually optimize. It will randomly send a bunch of traffic to a country that doesn't convert at all or send too much traffic to an age/gender combination that is the most expensive.

    • @tomdupreeiii
      @tomdupreeiii  3 роки тому

      Dude this is weird. I’ve certainly experienced a fair amount of fluctuation from day to day but nothing that extreme. I don’t know why that would be doing that.

      I'm so glad you found the video helpful! The delivery column should immediately show it as "learning" right when it starts, but it doesn't always do that. Love your videos, man! Gotta be honest, I laughed out loud when you said you changed your artist name 2 weeks after a release. Anyways, thanks for providing such great info!
    Quick question (not in regards to this video), but how do you manage the budget between the Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3 target regions? Do you put thee same amount for each tier? If so, wouldn't the Tier 3 spend so quickly? Thx!

    • @tomdupreeiii
      @tomdupreeiii  3 роки тому +1

      Dude, thanks for watching! Yeah, I completely shot myself in the foot on that one. Haha! For that style campaign setup, I cap the Tier 3 budget at 10% of the total daily budget for the campaign. So if you're running $10 / day, cap it at $1. Having said that, I'd recommend duplicating ad set targeting and optimizing for conversions over link clicks. Check out this video to see what I mean in more detail: ua-cam.com/video/PJMb3bM_leI/v-deo.html.

    Unfortunately I found through years of experience that FB ads cannot target. In EVERY ad I have done I will target country X or X,Y, Z for example. It NEVER stays withn those boundaries. On those boosts or ads, all hits came from 3rd world countries. When I investigated the individuals, there was no indication of interest in my genre of music. When I consulted w FB they said I I must also target the coountries I do not want ad to go to. Considering the amount of work involved w that I have given up. Can't trust FB. My problem is having too many hats. So now when I choose a hat, it must be effective and simple. Otherwise I just spin my wheels. I am supported by Pandora streams. I remain dubious w spotify and spotify promo, although the "vibe of P P is the best of all I have checked out. Your vibe is also good BTW, but there are just too many hats and some must be ignored. Exhausted :)

    Hi tom, was wondering what you thought about moving a previously released single from one distributor to another. It's an option available to me, was wondering if it was annoying and lengthy and how the payment sorts out.. do you have any experience with this by any chance? :)

    • @tomdupreeiii
      @tomdupreeiii  3 роки тому +1

      @UltraPuggers great question. I do have experience with this, and I can tell you it is not nearly as complicated as it may seem. You just need to upload your song through the new distributor using all of the same metadata (e.g. ISRC code, title, artist name, and artwork). Once it goes live through the new distributor, it will show up as a duplicate in stores. When that happens, you can delete it from the old distributor. When you delete the old one, your payments will start going to the new distributor. It's a pretty smooth process.

    • @tomdupreeiii
      @tomdupreeiii  3 роки тому +2

      Great question! So you’re only allowed to use dynamic creative if you have Facebook feeds placements selected. Since I only use stories placements I can’t use dynamic creative. I have used it before though with good results. It’s a more efficient way to split test sometimes; however, you wont get direct access to the exact combination that’s working the most effectively, as Facebook doesn’t deliver that information to you in ads manager, which is a bummer.

      Yeah, I've had that happen as well. Sometimes your ad creative can get fatigued and you need to switch it up. Other times it can be a targeting issue. Pick through the details and see if you can suss it out.

    Hi Tom, I have a question areyou able to make a new ad set when your original ad set is in the learning phase like is that OK to do or you have to wait for the learning phase to be done in order to do a new ad set? I pray you are doing fine my brother & it is a blessing that God has given you the energy to tell us what to do with these ads ~ Sincerely ~ SA*NT

    Hi Tom ! I've been watching your videos actively those days. Really great content ! Thanks again. I got a question though.
    One of my campaign is near to exit the learning phase (even if its not displayed as so, seems like a bug, it just says active) and it is about 1€ cpc which is huge ! It hasn't decreased for 3 days now. Should I expect any fall of the cpc after the learning phase is over or should I simply ajust the settings ?

    • @tomdupreeiii
      @tomdupreeiii  3 роки тому

      Hey thank you so much for watching the videos! Yes, you can expect things to come down in cost after the learning phase, however 1 euro per conversion is very high to start. I'd suggest modifying your settings to try to bring that down first.

  • @ladycharlesmusic
    @ladycharlesmusic 3 роки тому +1

    Question for those who have done this - does the learning phase advice apply no matter the preliminary results? I don't mind eating some budget but I'm a bit nervous because I've also been told that starting out with expensive conversions (2-3$ per) means my copy is wrong.

    • @tomdupreeiii
      @tomdupreeiii  3 роки тому +1

      If you're starting out that high you probably want to make some adjustments. Of course, it all depends on how wide your targeting is and what you're trying to accomplish. If you're sending traffic to Spotify, it should be much lower than that. I like to start around $0.35.

    • @ladycharlesmusic
      @ladycharlesmusic 3 роки тому +1

      Thanks, it came down a fair bit by the end of the first day thankfully so I think I will let it finish learning (it's targeting according to who clicks through the landing page to spotify using a pixel) but I am going to keep experimenting - thanks so much for the tip, this is such valuable info that no one tells you!

    Thanks Tom. One newbie question: how do you observe when a campaign has reached 50 optimisation events?

    • @tomdupreeiii
      @tomdupreeiii  3 роки тому +1

      If you’re doing a conversion campaign it’ll be 50 conversions for the campaign. “Optimization event” is just a fancy way of saying “whatever you set your campaign up to do”.

    Hey again Tom. Binging on a lot of your videos today. I have a question about targeting different countries when comparing ad sets. For example, is an ad that costs 9cent per conversion in Brazil, better than one that costs 30 cent per conversion in the UK? Do you just always go for the cheapest listener no matter where the location? Or do you think I should always have the same regions targeted in each campaign and then pick the best performing ad sets for each region?

    • @tomdupreeiii
      @tomdupreeiii  3 роки тому +1

      Dude, thanks for watching the videos! Right now, I'm going for the lowest cost per conversion I can get. I just want to create a little ad machine that works for me while I sleep. As things progress, I will ad in more and more specific targeting in regions where I really want to grow and will split things out accordingly.

    Hey! One quick question. The way I am thinking about setting up my campaign (financially) is front loading it, with maybe a start of $15 a day. But since that is quite expensive for me at the moment, the plan was to back that off after say, the first three days. Would this violate the #1 tip? Or would that be okay? Thanks in advance :)

    • @tomdupreeiii

    what countries are you targeting? It sound to me that with that the cost per click that you are talking about at around 10 cents you are targeting really broad audience. That means that you are not really building a fan base in the city that you are living so you can monetize your investment with gigs. Please let me know your strategy I am really interested. Are you just looking for plays from around the world or you are interested for live performances?

    • @tomdupreeiii
      @tomdupreeiii  3 роки тому +1

      You're absolutely right. I am targeting all territories where Spotify is available with the exception of India (it will eat all of the budget because traffic is so cheap). I'm not working toward building live performances at all right now, so location is not particularly important to me. What I am trying to do is simultaneously grow my profile on Spotify to generate enough streams to pay for my ad spend (creating a growth system that pays for itself) and learn about who my audience is through data. As I progress further down the timeline, I will then start to get more granular in my targeting and build my audience in specific areas as it relates to my needs as a business. Thank you for the insightful question!
