How, when, and why are more complicated questions that are difficult to shoehorn into what's meant to be a demonstration video for clients that already have a fully designed program in front of them. BUT since you asked, it's a corrective exercise to strengthen the vastus medialis. Useful in a structural balance or potentially an accumulation phase. Helpful for correcting a valgus knee fault.
