Maybe the mayans weren't referring to the end of the world in 2012? What if thr this is what they were referring to. This was the discovery of the Higgs Boson Particle in July 4th, 2012. AKA the "God particle."

It's so great that Higgs himself is still around to see this day!! And to see him choke up as his collegues applauded his lifes' work, truely shows this to be a transcendent moment in the history of science!

39:10 when that guy said the particle could act as a portal to guide us. The scientist next to him totally looked like the guy said too much he turned his head away from him looked at the lady next to him and said something to her everybody's body language when he said the word portal even though he was using it in a different context they look sketchy

to twelgo15, I'm sure Higgs feels an overwhelming sence of vindication after 40 what years of searching. This shows the power of the minds behind theoretical physics. To discover the particle in the mind using maths and ideas decades before technology can catch up to prove you right is an amazing thing.

The easiest way to understand this, if you have a fairly good grasp on the layman english language but not this physics language (like me), is to wikipedia all the concepts that you don't understand. Then read the layman introduktions and skip the equations

Im sorry to say but everything in life is very simple. emotion - reaction / reason(ing). we complicate everything as cynical is it may seem to a person who likes to complicate simple things deep down you know this to be true. We can complicate our lives and attach ourselves to machines and information. but does any of this make you truly happy. I didnt think so. A good family an obident dog a warm fire and a hot meal make man happy watching the stars as the sun rises. why complicate perfection?

and most leymen and intellectuals dont know that charles darwin had no real biological education as we know of, some but nothing less than an 8th grader today. so how could he decide for all of us that his "theory" is fact. so maybe an 8th grader can choose what goes into our schools. back then you could have made a class for women in schools how to cook and clean and stay fit and apply make up and smell nice. does that mean its right? no but after 3 generations of teaching.... truth and fact???

This is really wonderful news and in the future we will learn the benefits. Think back to previous discoveries and then look forward again. Physics is important - if you want to know why you can see through a lump of glass but not a rock of similar weight, you need to understand the building blocks of the universe. --- Other explanations are unsatisfactory. Congratulations to the scientists involved.
We also need to apply the same energy to understanding how humans can live together in peace.

How exactly do you seperate intellectual from experience? It is part of the same proces in our brains - where we experience something, mikro seconds later we reflect about this experience. The reflections is basicly our intellectual.

Ahem. Stop being so ignorantly feministic about the scientific community. Women don't even join the programs (Masters and PhD) to qualify to be a Scientist, and you expect them to show up at seminars and press meets? We had ONE girl in our whole Engineering department in my graduating year. ONE! Who is stopping women from joining science departments at their local Universities and go on to become scientists?

So thereby being anti-intellectual it means that I am wrong? somehow I dont think life or the experience of life is intellectual or anti intellectual at all. Why did you first learn? Emotions drove you to learn you felt things during new experiences. intellectual is a very human term, the way you are looking at it is your intellect is greater than the surronding experience. intellect is beautiful, so long as you realise it is not greater than your experience, your "experience" gave you intelect

Feministic, pertaining to feminism. These individuals tend to use it in a derogatory way though, they are saying women are not interested in STEM fields. That women simply are dumber than men. Or just 'differently' 'talented'. It's all just mumbo-jumbo for maintaining the status quo though.
It's very well explained by the latest 'science it's a girl thing campaign' in Europe. It's so absurd... (They have an official website, try look it up if you feel like crying).

Today is not just a day for celebrating Democracy and the USA ;)
It’s a day to celebrate a giant step made beyond the threshold, if you will, for scientific investigation. Today, also, represents the ‘swan song’ for theology of any kind, for First Cause has been discovered. Fortunately, it’s not God…The Higgs boson is the merging of Einstein’s General Relativity and Quantum Mechanics, one of goals sought by M-Theory!

While interesting, I fail to see why you felt the need to post about it in this specific thread other than to push your own cerebral agenda and raise awareness regarding your own personal beliefs (which I then labelled you a "barn pot" for). I agree it was off the cuff, but I was not being "mindless" I was merely questioning your intentions.
