1080P is definitely better than 1080i. It has double the lines of resolution and is the best picture available.

Hey, krutsniffer is right on the money.
1080i means you'll only see 540 lines at any given time, 1080p means you'll see all 1080 lines of resolution all the time.
Currently, the only source that can provide you with 1080p is a Blu-Ray player connected to a 1080p TV with an HDMI cable.
If you watch a movie on an HD channel (like HBO for example) in 1080i, and then watch the same movie on Blu-Ray in 1080p you will see a difference.

Thanks, we're glad you found the review helpful. The answer to your question may depend on your computer. If you can edit HD video on your computer (must be a really nice computer) then you should shoot and capture in HD.
If not, SD is fine. Go to the Google/UA-cam help center portion of UA-cam for more info.

The HDMI output is an HDMI micro, not the traditional HDMI cable head. When you go purchase one make sure it's has the smaller end on it so it connects to the camera properly.

You'll want to use a "Fire Wire" cable. They go by several names, such as "iEEE-1394" cables and Sony likes to call it "i-Link"
Of course you'll need to make sure you have, or get a computer that has that input (if you have a computer capable of editing HDV, you "probably" have a fire wire input.
Get a Fire Wire cable at Crutchfield along with your camcorder.

Hey PS3Insight,
High Definition Mini DV camcorders use the HDV format. Crutchfield carries one, the Canon VIXIA HV40 High-definition Mini DV camcorder. And It's less expensive that the camera in this review.
You'll have to deal with Mini DV tapes rather than store everything onto a hard drive, but that's the tradeoff you make when you want to edit without having to buy a super computer.

Finding editing software that can deal with AVCHD files (High Definition) is the key. HD video off a hard drive camera has always been hard for computers to deal with, but they are finally catching up. Do your homework though, and make sure your computer meets the minimum requirements for whatever video editing program you use.

i downloaded some raw avchd footage and put it onto sony vegas, when i press play to veiw the files it just plays really really laggy, not enough to properly ee the files, but im willing to go through each individual frame to edit the videos lol. But if i decode to get a mini dv camcorder, how do u get the video footage from it to your computer?

Have one of these HDR SR12E
Problem is Sony only put out a 1.7X
tele conversion lens ( VCLHG1737C )
at Au$499.00 here in Australia. For that kinda price I'd expect at least a 3X
but guess what that's it one size only, no way of extending optical zoom greater than basically 20X optical? I need and want say 50X any ideas? on this unit.
