Thanks for watching!
Note: The instructions in this video only apply to firmware v1.01. See here for firmware v1.02 ua-cam.com/video/oBfuWxMFSsI/v-deo.html
Nice!
Cheers Dave
@@TheRetroChannel Great susinct summary. I've posted your video on the first post in the hacking thread on the forum.
@@EEVbloghey Dave, is this still hackable? Thinking of buying one today but ill get the 814 if they have them locked down now!
I just got 804 today. And I did it very carefully by your advice. It worked perfectly. Thank you for your uploading this video. FROM TOKYO.
Em cima de qual firmware?
Thanks TheRetroChannel and EEVBlog forum members!! Mine DHO804 is FW 00.01.02 . I did for mine and result is "Yes no problem" for FW 00.01.02 also. Only different is below nothing information "Storage depth option Forever" in Options page at after unlock. But can select Storage depth 50M no problem. Thanks again!!
There is an alternative UI for the Rigol DHO800-900 Oscilloscopes, it implements some enhancements and fixes to the stock UI, the most interesting thing is a full screen mode that allows to hide the two horizontal bars that take vertical screen space. (DHO800 Extended UI)
8:46 If I had a dollar for every time I've done that...
So cool to realize how easy software modding is on modern scopes. I'll be honest, I went for a DHO914S because I did not want the trouble and risks. But who knows, maybe I'll upgrade it to a 924S in the future!
Great job! Thank you for a wonderfully clear and detailed tutorial. I followed it step-by-step and all worked perfectly. I just got the 804 a few days ago to replace my Tektronix 465B, which is just getting past its first flush of youth.
Thanks are due to the people who made this possible and not to those who make use of it.
@metaluna72 Lol, did you even watch the first 15 seconds of the video or read the first line in the video description
Works also for the DHO 914 that I bought - 250Mhz ;-)
I just bought a Rigol DHO 804 but it's running Frimware 00.01.02 so I can follow this guide. I can't find firmware 00.01.01 on the Rigol homepage anymore. Can anyone help me share this firmware version?
Someone's a bit excited about their new toy, I see. Being able to bring it up in a web browser definitely got me "scoping" one out. Oh! The punnn!
Is there a hack the dho814 to the 900 range once?
Nice upgrade. Unfortunately a new ‘scope isn’t in my budget right now. Maybe one day….
For talking me out of getting a 900 series when all I need is an 800 series.
I'm sure Rigol is happy about that too 😄
Thanks for sharing this hack and make it easy for us in only one video. Fantastic! I have a DHO802 model and I was wondering if I can do the exactly same procedure with the same files used for the 804.
I think it works the same for the 802. I'd recommend checking the eevblog thread linked in the video description to see if anyone else has tried it with the 802
Does it works on firmware version 00.01.02 too?
Did you try it on 00.01.02?
Hi just got my Rigol DH080 with firmware v1.02, just wanna ask if it possible to upgrade or hack from 70hrz to 100hrz, i only need the 100hrz thanks
5:39 Hi Retro, thank you for video. However, I could not find any Key.data & SCPI_commands_generated.txt. Only found backup folder. Could you please let me know how do I do? Appreciate it.
Or anybody help me please?
what number of firmware in utility - about?
@@TGodessa Hi TG, I am using same version with Retro. ver00.01.01 The meaning of no Key.data & SCPI_commands_generated.txt is that I can not find in my folder. i.e., computer screen, at my folder. Any help?
@@rohsungjinable Maby there is a problem with Go instalation as it is not needed for backup but do all the work with the hack.
Update, had firmware 1.2 on dho804 with no previous hacks. Did the mod and it worked fine, they were 4 options keys and I used only the first 2 which were memory and bandwidth. Don't know what the other two were. Now the real test is to run the calibrate and see if it sticks.
thanks great video would you be able to make a video of how you hack the dp932e to the A version
Does the DHO804 come with serial decoding option or is that something that can be hacked as well?
Will the hack also work with DHO-0802, the two channel version of this scope.
Great, thank you. Do you of anybody who has bricked or is it always reversible in any case?
I have a problem with a hacked Xbox 360. I updated the system but it did not boot up again
Up date, after doing the hack and it worked, I then did the latest firmware and a self cal. It took away everything the hack gave me. I don't know yet if I do it all over with the latest firmware if it will work.
Где можно заказать заднюю крышку корпуса для данного осциллографа, может кто знает?
Thanks
And now do the same upgrade video on the Rigol DHO1000 series. Please, please, please.
Send me a 1000 series and I'll do it 😄
Have a look on the eevblog forums. I'm sure a similar thing exists for the 1000 series to unlock extra features
Now I know that it likely isn't worth purchasing the more expensive models. All of the 800 series are most likely all the same. It irks me to no end that companies have been creating software defined pay walls on our hardware features these days. Thanks for this hack. I think we should be free to use the hardware as we please, after all we purchased it.
Heh. Trust me, it hurts even more when the $10K unit on your bench has a base price of around $5000, but with all the software and bandwidth options, would be around $50K, with zero changes in hardware. (Even the upgrade to 1.5GHz bandwidth is a pure license key. Not even a recalibration needed, like with some competing models.)
Great video! Thanks!
I'm in Melbourne. Can you recommend the cheapest way/place to purchase the Rigol DHO804? Of course a reliable place.
Thanks in advance.
Anyone??
Core electronics is probably the cheapest place to get them in Aus.
@@TheRetroChannelthanks for your reply.
I checked Core Electronics and the Rigol DHO-804 is AUD $823.90. This is about 30% more including exchange rate!
Can you or anyone suggest an overseas reliable seller that will sell it at the US $399 price plus P&H?
Is this still hackable? Thinking of ordering one today!
Afaik it is, but the method to hack them has changed. You'll need to check the eevblog forum thread in the description for the latest information
@@TheRetroChannel appreciate the information, ill check the eev blog.
@@tokin420nchokin Just hacked mine with this video today (May 20 2024) and it still works.
Quem tiver na dúvida com relação a memória de profundidade, pode fazer o upgrade que funciona perfeitamente e quanto a versão do firmware de 00.01.02, pode fazer que funciona também.
Video out of date, we now have a 'rkey' file to deal with since v1.02. Anyone have any info on this, or a way to roll back to 1.01?
adb: error: remote object '/rigol/data/Key.data' does not exist
me pasa igual
If I understand correctly, I dont see how having more bandwidth helps you with lower speed signals. using double the sampling speed to sample a waveform simply adds redundant data. it doesnt measure it with more accuracy. See the nyquist limit.
If I draw your picture with 100 dots or samples it will be not good, but same picture with 10000 dots or samples is much better representation of you.
@@kka10001 Sorry, you are wrong. Thats not how digital sampling works. Thats the same 'logic'' that has people buying 384KHz DACs to play 48kHz content. I recommend you read up on the Nyquist sampling theorem. You only need 2 (actually just a smidge more than 2 ideally) samples to represent a sinewave perfectly and using 4, 8, 16 or 1000 does not give you any more accuracy; they are redundant. To avoid aliasing, typically you want 2.01x the highest waveform you want to sample.
@@kka10001 unfortunately its very difficult to post links in youtube comment sections. But if you search youtube for ''D/A and A/D digital show and tell'', the original video by Monty Montgomery was from xiph. you will find a fabulous video that does the best job of explaining the nyquist theorem I have seen, complete with demonstration with scopes. I link anyone that needs it, but I cant do that here, the reply will get deleted before you see it.
You are correct, no advantage if not used. @@jeremyglover5541
@@jeremyglover5541 You obviously are talking about audio?
So we definitely need Windows for this, currently? I'm a Mac ... 🤷♂ Will try this in a virtual machine, hope it'll work! 🤞
Worked like a charm. ✅ Thanks so much for making this video! 👍
🍪 Edit: multiple cookies from me in 1 day 🙊

work on 802 too
so easy!
Had firmware 1.1 Did this mod it worked fine. I then upgraded the firmware to 1.02 or what the latest is. Had others say if you already have version 1.2, this mod don't work. Seams Rigol changed a file name from Key.dat to something like RKey.dat. So have to do the other method on the EEVblog
