      Are you still using Saxon? Do you like it? I'll have to go and search your other videos.

      Yw! We are definitely still using it and it’s working well for her. If you check out my monthly updates I give updates on our curriculum. The next update will come next week. 😃

    I'm using a notebook for the whole thing, lessons and mixed review.

    Great review! Thank you. That was very helpful to see. I am also thinking of switching my younger kids from TT to Saxon but have been having trouble where to start them. I think I have settled on 5/4 for my son but am not sure with my daughter. She is half way through TT 6 and is going into 7th grade this fall. Since she didn't finished all of TT6, I am wondering if I can place her in Saxon 7/6 but may need to do what you did and have her take the tests in that program to see where to start. She did take the placement test and was within two points of level 7/6. Any suggestions or advice is appreciated. :)

      I would for sure go with the placement test results. You could have her do the placement test again to be sure. If it’s the same or near I would start at the beginning of 7/6 working at your own pace. It has worked out well for us. We are now on lesson 35. She tested up to lesson 31 before making a score less than 90%. Hope that helps. Remember you can also go back to cover what was missed or move ahead if it’s not challenging her.

    I have an 8 year old finishing up teaching textbooks 3, I wonder if Saxon 5/4 would be appropriate to move on to? I notice a lot of review in the beginning of all Saxon textbooks. Saxon 3 seemed a little to easy?

    • @LifeofTillmans
      @LifeofTillmans  Рік тому +1

      Yw! I would definitely take the placement test. We used the first 40-50 lessons as review and only did the Saxon test when she switched. Once she missed more than 4 on the test we started with the lessons from there. But do take the placement test and that will give you a much better idea of where to begin. Here is the link. 😀

    I am torn between Saxon and Teaching Textbooks. I was leaning towards TT but I heard that it leaves holes. Since you've tried both, what do you think?

    • @LifeofTillmans
      @LifeofTillmans  3 роки тому +1

      As of right now we’ve yet to experience gaps with either of the girls. My now 3rd grader is using TTB for the 2nd year in a row and spent the first few lessons going over material that was in the Math 3 curriculum. If I see changes I will update you.

    For mixed practice, do you use a spiral notebook or graph paper?

    • @LifeofTillmans
      @LifeofTillmans  2 роки тому +1

      Saxon comes with preprinted sheets for each section of the lessons and test for your child to complete the work. We just made copies of those sheets for mixed practice and the warm ups. 😀

      I had no idea how hands on it actually can be! I really appreciated your review. I’ve been loving Math Mammoth for my mathy oldest child, but my middle girl really needs something more spiral and that progresses in small increments. She gets easily overwhelmed and her strength is in LA not math. Thinking of using Saxon with her. Thank you for this detailed review. You are such a bright light in the homeschooling community on UA-cam. I always love your videos!
