This is an original hit by the American vocal group THE CLOVERS in 1959, then a hit by the British band THE SEARCHERS in 1963 and another hit by THE TYGERS OF PANG TANG in 1982 and so on ...
@faustoj26a hehejhehje you are wrong dude, it was recorded by dio after the redcaps (not carpets) in 64 by ronnie dio and the prophets, and its a cover! the original song is from 59 from the CLOVERS... (they didn't writte it!)
I wonder if the band personnel here is: John Deverill + Robb Weir + "Rocky" Laws + Brian Dick + John Sykes (Fred Purser recorded the album but I think is not on this video)
I always wondered if it was a play on words, pantang is a village in ghana, tygers of pontang? motorcity madman ted was at his peak when this band came out. just a guess
I love these guys, and they did an amazing job making this song sound cool. It's obvious why you must mention their name every time you talk about NWOBHM.
I love Iron Maiden and decided to listen to some other NWOBHM bands since I had listened to so few. I heard of the band so I figured I'd listen to a track and they fucking rock!!!
Wow!!!! amazing upload, if u dont know this song belong to DIO and the red carpets, from 1974!!! this is a tribute for the most important frontman and influence guide to many vocalist. DIO.
Shows what you see here in the States - I didn't know they did a video for this. I had the album this came from ("The Cage"). The rest of the songs on that album were way more pop than this; it wasn't this song that killed them, but the rest of the album.
I took my troubles down to Madame Rue You know that gypsy with the gold-capped tooth She's got a pad down on Thirty-Fourth and Vine Sellin' little bottles of Love Potion Number Nine I told her that I was a flop with chics I've been this way since 1956 She looked at my palm and she made a magic sign She said "What you need is Love Potion Number Nine"
Some of them were absolutely shocking, not all that didn't make it wern't shite i.e. Samson, Diamond Head, Blitzkrieg etc. Thats like a blanket view you posed there that 'mainstream' people who think they know metal generally say. "Look I'm so metal i know Maiden". Tosh!
Ta very much for posting this, loved this song when it first came out but never saw the video, thank God for You Tube!!!
thanks for posting this video, luv it!

Great vocalist - John Deveril from Persian Risk. You can see where Justin Hawkins (The Darkness) got his inspiration from.
this band are from Whitley bay in Newcastle a shame that not many people my age from Newcastle know about them
that would be robb wier .who now works on east coast trains.

You know that gypsy with the gold-capped tooth
She's got a pad down on Thirty-Fourth and Vine
Sellin' little bottles of Love Potion Number Nine
I told her that I was a flop with chics
I've been this way since 1956
She looked at my palm and she made a magic sign
She said "What you need is Love Potion Number Nine"

the power of the NWOBHM. It's a very energetic song.
mine goes up to 11!!! ;-)
not bad !!!!!!!!!!
John Sykes still a killer Guitar player..
Wasn't this the song that basically killed their career?
@ghosst00 and you're only 16, sorry, you missed the best metal decade ever ;) you gotta bear rihanna and the other shit :/
when the humans play REAL music!
I'm sorry if I offend any fans by saying this... But they have completely RUINED this song.
The NWOBHM Bands that never really made it , didn't because they were basically shite!!!
Tosh!
Wow, this is worse than Bon Jovi's Boys are back in town.
