I think the reason that many hunters like myself have abandoned scent control is because the amount of time and effort required to maintain it caused too much stress and anxiety and it unintentionally took some of the fun out of bowhunting. I would personally rather be less succussful and have fun than more successful and be stressed out by the scent control regiment. To each his own. Thanks for sharing all the good info for the guys that want to go that route.

John, Michigan native here however my career has taken me to GA. You aren’t kidding that scent spray crap doesn’t work. I pay attention to wind, don’t really want to spend any money on the scent lock stuff. I have learned a lot from watching your videos and prior to UA-cam thank you for all the insight.

Excellent advice John. Your lifetime of work on scent management (not elimination) has changed hunting; deer, bear, anything with a nose and fear of humans. Thanks. And by the way, I’m glad a lot of hunters refuse to try your methods, and tell lies to other hunters about how they don’t work. It means more mature deer for me! We who know should get together and pay you to stop educating people!
PS: I’m gonna fund more forums that tell lies about scent control! The Pants In Boots hunters forum!

Just come across this video looking for a better way to clean my saddle.
I train police dogs for scent-work, as well as my personal dogs for hunting. Theirs a ton of research on a dogs nose.
Training these dogs and knowing what I know has made me neurotic about my scent control regiment.
Is it 100% effective against a deers nose? No. But nothing is 100% when you’re hunting. Scent control, in conjunction with other measures will be more effective than any one measure used alone.
Keep doing what you’re doing. I appreciate, and enjoy your videos. Thank you for all you do!

@John Eberhart I got the scent control regimen, thanks a lot ! What gloves will you be wearing while installing the climbing sticks on the day of the hunt (rubber gloves or the Scentlok gloves) ? I have Beast sticks and I am washing them and the straps now because I had to put Stealth strips on them to deaden the noise, and they are full of scent. Almost thinking of 1 sticking up the tree since i rappel down anyway to cut out scent from all the other sticks I'd have to carry. Also washing my straps on my cranfords, those straps were dirty and full of scent I'm sure also.

Really enjoy your information. I was always interested in saddle hunting from your articles in Woods n Waters, then figured I'd give it a try after seeing the Tethrd guys on THP. Went with the Phantom and got my best bow buck out of it. So I was pumped. But after watching your videos of your preference for the two panel saddle, I figured I'd try it out because you know what you're talking about. And you were right! I got the ESS, and once I made a couple of modifications which, judging from your videos, I think you also ended up doing, loved it and I'll be selling the Phantom. Please post when and where the saddles will be available at retail outlets here in Michigan, as I will definitely be getting another as a spare. And you were right about the platform too. I got one because I did not know any better. It worked, but I prefer the ring of steps I ended up getting to try out. Keep up the good work.

Dead down wind is different than All, Tide, Purex unscented detergents in that Dead Down Wind is Enzyme based. I believe Scent Lok detergent also contains their Silver Alloy Treatment. Slightly different than your common commercial detergents. I use Tide free and clear for all my regular wear clothing and try to stick to Dead down wind, elimishield, or Scent Lok for hunting clothing.

I try to do most of this stuff. I am the only one out of family and friends that does anything for scent control. Makes it tough when hunting with them. The stuff I can't wash or put in the drier gets ozone treated in the truck the night before the hunt eg: pack, bow, sticks, platform, range finder, binos. My scentlok gets reactivated while I am getting ready in the morning. I am fully invested in scentlok. Every deer hunting garment I own is scentlok. Thanks for the detergent tip. I have been buying the hunting brand products for years. Have any views on ozone? I know in high concentrations it smells strongly for quite a while.

Non scentlok garments should always be worn on the inside of scentlok whenever possible. They gather scent particles extremely rapidly and do not absorb it. Scentlok doesn't completely remove all scent but rather brings it down to a level that deer don't see it as a threat - Joe

    John,
Have you seen where Carbon Synergy works as good as Scent Lok? (product to infuse clothing with activated carbon). I spent a lot of money last year on new hunting cloths that is not Scent Lok.
Also, have you seen where treating your clothes with ozone helps at all?
Thank you John. I’ve hunted for 25 years and I’ve learned more from you in the last 4 months.

    • @anotheryoutuber_
      @anotheryoutuber_ 3 роки тому +1

you can buy activated carbon in a powder and colloidal silver to treat any garment, just throw the garment in a tub, use distilled water and shake and bake it. the carbon powder will darken your clothing a tad even after it dries, so use less than you think you need but it will absolutely do the trick, youll need to reapply after washing but not drying. you can spray the silver solution on you base garments, if you want it on your clothes, i spray my body after showering with silver it works great. ill use an ozone generator in a tub if i don't have clothes to swap into as a dry wash, but i wont use it in the woods because of its smell. youll want to store the carbon powder in an air tight container so it does not continually absorbs compounds. the silver should be kept in a dark bottle. hope this helps.

@John Eberhart the tests were not done for the district court. They were "closed system" tests done for and under specific consitions paid for by scent lock to be used in the discovery process( and probably all of the other big name defendants in that case). There were expert witnesses that called into question actual carbon coverage on the fabric sighting numbers in the 20% and one expert said it would be innefective in preventing odor from the human breath, he said it would go right through the gaps.

Carbon garments decrease the concentration of your scent being released to the air causing the deer to think that the hunter is farther away than he/she actually is. It's impossible to completely mask your scent but you can trick the deer using scent lok. You can't fool the deer's nose but you can fool his brain so to speak...

I love you John.... But your videos are toooooooo long....
You tell us what you are gonna tell us..... Over and over.....
Tell us what you are gonna tell us (once)
    Then tell us (once)
    Then briefly.... briefly...
Tell us what you told us (once)
That way more people will finish your video and you will make even more money
    Please dont take this wrong
